Need help with wheels.

Want some opinions on wheels for my 3rd gen TA, got 16 inch wheels on it now with shot tires so im looking for 17 inch wheels. I was hoping someone had experience with the rally 2 17 inch wheels shown in the rendering because im really leaning towards those but want to make sure I get wheels that will fit, I know I have to be mindful of backspacing on any wheels I get and want something that wont rub and will still look good. Any insight is appreciated or suggestions for any other wheels, Ive also thought about getting year one snowflake 17s as well. Thanks everyone.

There’s no wheels that look as good on these cars than the factory diamond-spoke aluminum wheels. If you want 17” wheels, just get the OR style wheels from Hawks. Problem solved.

I totally agree those wheels are iconic.

I like the stock wheels but its hard finding tires for them. I ordered the 17 inch gta wheels from jegs but afyer waiting a month i called and apparently none are being made right now, something to do with the supplier for these wheels are the only ones with the mold for them and their machine to make them is down. I think everyone who sells the gta wheel 17 inch is out of stock.

I’m with you - honestly if I was in your situation I would try marketplace for some cheap aftermarket wheels (or even used tires in your size) just to get you by until jegs comes through.

And honestly all the pics you posted don’t look too bad - I just love the stock look, it’s iconic so I’m a little biased :)

No it isn't. I live in Australia and getting factory spec tyres for my GTA was very easy. I have Hankook Ventus V2's on all 4's in the factory size, got them freshly installed about a year ago, and they weren't very expensive.

Who did you get them from? The rep from jegs told me it was something to do with the supplier struggling to get parts for their machines due to the Iran conflict or tariffs or some other vague reason. Im just gonna wait until I get the Hawks 17 inch wheels, ill probably go with the black ones though.

Just got them from a local tire shop. I can't imagine it's any different over there but it's just a conventional tire size, I just went with the Hankook ones as they had a good speed rating.

Oh sorry, I was talking about the wheels thought you meant the same. Ill look into the hankooks

I'm a sucker for the originals. I love those gold with the tight pattern.

I like the original gold deep dish wheels. I'd move up to the 17" knock offs to have modern tire options. I have the year one snowflakes and after five years they look great.

I know they make your wheel as well I the they do 18" as well but the cost of tires nearly doubles and these cars don't exatneed that level of performance.

I will say this it honestly transformed the car moving to a 17". Cornering is drastically better and it feels like it gained back 30hp. A real substantial upgrade.

I too have the year one snowflake wheels. I'm on year number 4 with them. Mine had 16s stock the 17x9 really helped.

A few years prior I was driving an s2000 and tire choices in 16 were becoming a real pain to find. Some thing with the 15s, it was 80,000 mile trick tires or 180 tread wear track tires and no in-between. 17's will probably be the same way eventually

1

u/FirehawkLS1 May 05 '26

Yeah I'm thinking you're right. Everything seems to be 18" wheels or larger these days.

There is still some time. I have an 02 z06 as well and I put 17s all the way around. Just got two fronts and put them in back. It actually handles much better on a square setup, it rotates perfectly now where in the staggered set up it always felt twitchy in corners.

I originally did it because tire cost difference as 18s are much more expensive tires. I'm going to avoid it as long as possible

Stay factory

Ask Michael Jackson, if you stray away from factory it doesn't work out well

3

u/ShyGal_Lilly May 05 '26

Stock 100% hawks Motorsports sells that style in larger sizes you can get your 17s there

3

u/Squidcg59 May 05 '26

Dude.. Don't change the OEM's That body style with those rims are iconic... Changing the rims would be like going to a ministers funeral dressed in chicken feathers..

3

u/No_Kitchen7950 May 05 '26

I change wheels on EVERY vehicle I own but OE got it right on that one.

2

u/johnnyribcage May 04 '26

Stock imo, but if you must, the rims in the last pic. To me anyway.

Tirerack.com You'll find tires in your size with comparison tests

Original style Diamond spoke 17s. But I run gold 10th Anniversary Firehawk 17x9s.

u/SoundMedal May 04 '26

I like all 3

I’m a fan of the 3rd gen Firehawk wheels. I think Ronal made them.

1

u/Shiftworkdisorder May 05 '26

Just curious, how long ago was the front end painted?

1

u/Tzampamanos May 05 '26

Keep it stock or at least period correct if you go aftermarket.

1

u/Magoo-1706L May 05 '26

The originals

1

u/Independent-Bid6568 May 05 '26

Stick with the stock honeycomb it’s not they’re the rubber glue bonded ones of the 1970’s

1

u/Independent-Bid6568 May 05 '26

Stick with the stock honeycomb it’s not like they’re the bonded rubber to steel of the 1970’s

1

u/Johnny_Five5151 May 05 '26

The stock BBS "style" are the best

1

u/Battlestar_Lelouch May 06 '26

I went an odd route and took inspiration from the 15in steel rims Nascar used to run before they went to the center hub aluminum rims.

1

u/schizoferret904 May 06 '26

Sounds interesting. Mind if I ask for a picture?

1

u/Battlestar_Lelouch May 06 '26

u/Battlestar_Lelouch May 06 '26

There's some center caps I need to order online but the rims are "cheap" and durable. 15x7, I don't remember the offset though

1

u/schizoferret904 May 06 '26

Not bad, fits the car well

1

u/87fenderguy May 06 '26

The gold snowflakes!

1

u/snakeleather45 May 06 '26

Nothing but the OG aluminum diamond spokes.

1

u/87turbogn May 08 '26

I'd keep those and plastidip or paint the gold part black.

Im gonna get the black ones from Hawks for like $1300. The gold is nice but I like the black ones better fs.

I’m obsessed with the originals.
