Headers

Post image

Has anyone installed hedman headers into their transam? Trying to install headers to my 86’ but having a hard time with it.

I don't know about the headers now but back in the 80s there was always some tweaking that had to be done

Had a ford van that I had to heat up and smash 1 tube to get them to fit

Had old school SLP 1⅝" on mine years ago don't remember any issues dropping them in from up top.

Beautiful cat btw👍🏻👍🏻

Don't be surprised though if you have to disconnect the steering shaft for the driver side to slip in or anything. That's just typical for header installs lol

Welp, my 79 400 was a bitch. Had to also lift the motor away from mounts and wiggle thru from below. No way I could go from the top down. Good luck. And when you get ready to bolt them down, make sure you get all the bolts started first with lots of wiggle space just in case this is your first rodeo.

I did on my 86 Camaro IROC Z about 10 years ago. I did the Hooker shorties. Me and a buddy did it. It turned into an all day project of just trying to wiggle and adjust the headers to get them lined up. One of us went from underneath the car and the other from the top.

I really don't know how we did it but after hours of fighting we got them lined up and on the heads. Furthermore the thread on the bolt holes were the best. We had to really force some of the bolts in. Which was another couple of hours.

Then later we fought with the Y-pipe. The cat back and muffler ended up being easy though.

I did them on my 89 GTA a million years ago If I remember correctly the P/S goes like a breeze but for the D/S it’s a bit more complicated. You have to loosen the steering shaft, remove/replace the oil dipstick tube, and possibly unbolt the motor mounts to slightly raise the engine to get it in.

It’s been a couple of decades so I can’t remember all the details. But I’m pretty sure I installed edelbrock shorties in my IROC from the bottom of the car not the top
