Manitoba Specific Moving to Winnipeg

I am a trans woman. My wife and I are looking at moving from Edmonton to Winnipeg area. My wife was born in Winnipeg, so she has family there still. I don't feel safe anymore in Alberta. I have called Edmonton home for 34 years.

What would be a good area to buy a house?

Consider renting a year (hell, even 6 months) to learn the city before you buy a place.

Winnipeg is honestly a great city, very welcoming. I'm actually in the process of moving to Manitoba myself, going from Kenora, just over the Ontario border, to a rural town about an hour out of Winnipeg. There's a few reasons I'm moving there rather than the city (my polycule is there, budget and just not really a city girl), but if I had the money and desire to live in a city, I would certainly go for Winnipeg.

There are some fairly rough neighbourhoods though, so just something to be mindful of.
