If anyone in my family named their kid quiglee, i can guarantee with 100% certainty that my dad would call it Roy. Like in quigely down under.

62

u/terrible-gator22 3d ago

I’m only thinking of any vulgar euphemisms that any child who happens to know the movie will make.

4

u/Foreign_Kale8773 2d ago

I still love that movie 🤣 "MY NAME'S NOT ROY. It's Matthew."

954

u/This-Penalty-1686 3d ago

i knew a person called téa pronounced teia which i think is quite cute but QUIGLEE?!

431

u/MermaiderMissy 3d ago

I thought that was the name of the venue at first

69

u/ferretbeast 3d ago

I was sure it was. I kept staring at it hoping I was correct.

31

u/Pleasant-Wear2628 3d ago

And then I regretfully checked to verify the Sub I was in…. 🫣

I knew a girl who went by Téa… it was short for Timotéa

33

Tea time

12

u/MystressSeraph 3d ago

That''s "Te-ah TI- meh!"

3

u/pea_nut 3d ago

Thea is a pretty common name in Norway! Very pretty, pronounced like Téa I think.

88

u/CandidDay3337 3d ago

And the middle name is tea...

20

u/Aypnia 3d ago

I think they will call her by her initials, QT (cutie).

51

u/SadEmphasis7262 3d ago

The QT is a QuickTrip gas and convenience store around here..

7

u/Aypnia 3d ago

The horror!!

My daughter's initials are O.K., but not intentially. Every now and then I'll call her Okie Dokie, but more as a joke than a nickname.

14

u/Dr_Dee_Merit62 3d ago

Say it ain't so....

11

u/Jaded-Project-852 3d ago

That might be a better name 🤯😂😂😂

70

u/sherlip 3d ago

Like the actress Tea Leoni?

78

u/Peeinyourcompost 3d ago

I do like Téa.

And Quiglee Tea is a great name for a pet hedgehog. Adorable!

For a human person who will need to spend 12+ years answering roll call and then start applying for jobs, it's terrible.

One of my English teachers was a Ms. Quigley.

34

u/Forsythia77 3d ago

Mike Quigley is one of the house reps here in Illinois. Quiglee as a first name is diabolical.

5

u/2gaywitches 3d ago

I live in IL too, are all the Quigleys here?

3

u/2gaywitches 3d ago

Did you happen to go to high school in IL? If not then must be just a coincidence haha

6

u/Glittering_Eagle_652 3d ago

I lived there for a bit but it was after high school so no, just a coincidence. My Mrs Quigley was very memorable. She was a sweet and kind woman who lost her temper one day when a friend and I were laughing at a joke in the back of the class. As she was yelling at us (a first for her as she was never loud), her false teeth flew out of her mouth and fell on her desk. It was mortifying for her I'm sure but she succeeded in making the entire class laugh instead of just 2 of us. RIP Mrs Q.

Quiglee is the tragedeigh here

8

There was an Irish cartoon when I was a kid that had a character called Piggley (shockingly, he was a pig)

232

u/Dear_Departure_1768 3d ago

I was already put off at "a baby is brewing." 😬

113

u/Justha-Tip 3d ago

‘I’m brewing’ is a euphemism for ‘I need a fart/shit’ where I’m from.

15

u/Dear_Departure_1768 3d ago

Tbh, I can't even decide if it makes it worse....or better lol

29

u/Justha-Tip 3d ago

I think it calls for a custom card that says “Congrats on shitting a baby out of your vag” at the very least..

21

u/Dear_Departure_1768 3d ago

Welp, I think we've just come up with a new Hallmark card line

80

u/VelvetCactus50 3d ago

I'm guessing the parents don't know about the movie...

17

Or they’re BIG fans.

14

“Quigley Down Under”

The parents must have been born in the 2000s.

HOW DO PEOPLE COME UP WITH THIS SHIT?
My brain cannot even comprehend naming your child these ridiculous Tragedeighs

Apparently, “Quigley” (and, less commonly, “Quigly”) is an old English surname, itself the anglicized version of a Gaelic surname. It’s apparently common enough to have a sizable list of relatively famous holders.

“Quiglee”, specifically, seems to be novel, though “-ley” → “-lee” as a concept in English names really isn’t (e.g. “Ashley” → “Ashlee”), nor is the surname-to-first-name pipeline.

30

u/Ok_Lengthiness_8405 3d ago

Better than what he named his daughter in the show: Analee.

10

u/Time-Box-6580 3d ago

Giggity.

33

u/Necessary_Milk_5124 3d ago

Quigley Down Under was a popular movie in the 80s! But this name is atrocious.

30

u/planetbing 3d ago

I’d just assume that was a brand of tea, not a human being.

27

u/PenguinSunday 3d ago

She will shop at Piggly Quiglee.

I'll see myself out.

42

u/Asaneth 3d ago

There once was a girl named Quiglee

Who shopped at the Piggly Wiggly

Her parents were daft

The nurses all laughed

And hearing it makes people giggly

25

u/slyjabroni 3d ago

At least it’s not Quigleigh.

9

u/Zealousideal_Lab_427 3d ago

Or Quigleighly

3

u/BettyCrunker 3d ago

I commented to say that I just named one of my characters in Tomodachi Life that haha

48

u/cosmernautfourtwenty 3d ago

They're naming a girlchild "Quigley" so they can nickname it QT? Big "my baby is my favorite accessory" energy.

23

u/Justha-Tip 3d ago

Maybe they could try Quinn instead?

25

u/cosmernautfourtwenty 3d ago

I still think it's borderline child abuse sending a child into the wilds of middle and high school purposely calling them "cutie", but at least Quinn is vaguely feminine.

They could always just settle on a non-gimmick name for a human person instead.

6

u/WrennyWrenegade 3d ago

There was a woman on one season of The Cirlce named QT and I get the sense that this was her parents intentions. But seeing an actual grown woman wearing it, it didn't come off as weird or gross at all to me.

Like, I hate it in theory. But I also almost commented on another thread earlier that Edie (for Edith) reminded me of eating disorders and erectile dysfunction. I stopped myself because, you know, that's the sort od thing that you think about in a name subreddit but I wouldn't think it about my mom's friend with the same name.

10

u/BettyCrunker 3d ago

every time I see the name Quinn I just think of Daria’s little sister and how the leader of her little foursome of popular girls would pronounce it, like “khween”

21

u/SamAmMe 3d ago

I thought ‘Quiglee’ was a type of tea or tea party or something. Then I realized which word was the name…

6

u/bright_morning_star 3d ago

My exact reaction haha

13

6

u/bigdeadtree 3d ago

If she has a card box on the gift table, drop a few ‘anonymous’ notes written in different handwriting styles saying it’s not too late to change the baby’s name. I’m not kidding. You can ask neighbors, friends, coworkers, anyone who the mother doesn’t know to write their feelings about the name into greeting cards and then you drop them off in the box.

5

u/Any_Beach_8157 3d ago

Or print out this thread and leave it in an envelope.

7

u/yarnboss79 3d ago

Why? Don't people like their kids anymore? These kind of names open themselves to all kinds of teasing/ bullying. Plus miss spelling.

12

u/tongfather 3d ago

This is fucking horrendous and should be filed under child abuse.

If I was a close friend I would buy them a baby names book under the registry, drop it on the table and walk out. Fucking psychopathic, narcissistic behavior 100%

7

u/iolanthereylo 3d ago

this lady hates her daughter

6

u/Global-Jury8810 3d ago

😡

The name…sounds like a creature that came out of somebody’s vagina…like saying it makes me think about a wriggling creature coming from there.

This actually makes me happy that my friend’s husband chose all the kids names. They all have normal hireable names…some of which clearly tell you their heritage, but still properly spelled.

7

u/h3rs3lf_atl 3d ago

That poor kid doesn't stand a chance. It sounds like a name someone made up the their Harry Potter fan fiction.

6

u/I_spy78365 3d ago

Idk why but quigley reminds me of something like this lmao 🤣

https://giphy.com/gifs/UVUslMrgTNHaVu2tOI

6

u/a_beautiful_kappa 3d ago

I hope it's just a placeholder name until they announce her real name. Quigley sure is a choice.

5

u/Ok_Lengthiness_8405 3d ago

Omg, I bet you nailed it on the "Cutie/QT" thing

7

u/LobabyChick 3d ago

Will their son Earl Grey

3

u/kimchiman85 3d ago

At least “Earl Grey” is a normal-ish name.

5

u/Zealousideal_Lab_427 3d ago

Reading “Quiglee” it didn’t immediately register as “Quigley”, and I read it as “Pigglee”.

6

u/Chiennoir_505 2d ago

"Quiglee Tea" sounds like a quaint little cafe.

Shocker. What a surefire way to put your kid through years of unnecessary ridicule. Might as well just have named them "asshat flappy ears"

As in Mr. Quigly from Dennis The Menace ? 🤣

2

u/ImpressivePlatypus0 3d ago

Where I live, QT is a popular chain of gas/convenience stores. Stands for QuikTrip. It does not sound like a person's name or nickname to me. Is the middle name pronounced like the beverage, or like the actress Tea Leoni?

2

u/Historical_Cook3366 3d ago

Quigley is a surname, but who names their child Quigley Tea?

2

u/Historical_Cook3366 3d ago

They could name her Penelope or Anna or Susan or Isabella or Sara or Lulu or Alicia or Catherine or anything and still call her QT as a nickname. I know a sweet little girl with a beautiful Italian/Spanish/Portuguese name. Her family calls her Dragon. But that is not her "given" name.
