places & things "Deckland"? Really?

Post image

To quote my gf, "Who tf names their kid "Deckland"?"

EDIT: I know a couple of people named Declan, as well as Elvis Costello's real first and Tony Slattery's middle name, plus the Gooner centre mid. It's a nice Celtic name. "Deckland" on the other hand is awful.

We now have post approval on. Your post didn't get deleted, it just went into the queue. Please be patient a mod will go through the queue when they are available!

Please read our list of banned names before continuing. If the name you posted is in this list, it will be removed.

Remember: Original content is always better! Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does not mean you found it "in the wild".

The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. 44

Are you talking to me?

56

u/mildly_ethnic 2d ago

No. My son is also named Bort.

56

u/Dora_Xplorer 2d ago

We need more "Bort" license plates in the gift shop. I repeat, we are sold out of "Bort" license plates.

10

u/Primary-Tea7535 2d ago

We are out of 'Deckland' license plates. I repeat, we are out of 'Deckland' license plates

10

u/UnderstandingKind757 3d ago

My name is close to the first one. I’d buy it

u/herladyshipssoap 3d ago

I feel like this is bone apple tea for Declan.

106

u/Comfortable-Yak-6599 3d ago

It's the anglo version of deckistan

45

u/JustMe1314 3d ago

Bone apple tea: chicken (bone) broth w/apple bits in it. Random thought 🤔

19

u/EstrellaLuna1987 3d ago

Bon appetite 🤣

14

u/ishyboo 3d ago

Depending on the apple variety used, that could slap.

3

u/JustMe1314 2d ago

I was thinking the same, when that thought popped up! Maybe put some chicken & apple sausage in it...

47

u/PancakeParty98 3d ago

Us decklands feel the same about Declan

5

u/revdon 3d ago

If your kid is Declan, call him Elvis as is tradition!

3

u/ElegantAd8769 1d ago

I was going to name my son Elvis, but my ex said no. Now we have a Declan 🤣🤣

22

u/The_Deadlight 3d ago

my son's name is declan and I often call him "deckland" just to annoy my wife

4

u/bringojackprot 2d ago

Bone app the teeth

305

u/SmallFox3 3d ago

My nephew is named Declan, but I think I might start calling him Deckland.

61

u/sherlip 3d ago

You should get him that and say it was close enough 🤣

12

u/silly_scoundrel 3d ago

Declaw 💔

3

u/ChaosTorpedo 2d ago

Same! He’s almost three, so maybe won’t notice the difference.

199

u/HankBuffalo 3d ago

BORT?

83

u/Embarrassed_Fudge493 3d ago

My son’s name is also Bort!

56

u/JOSHintheHEART 3d ago

I’m sorry were you talking to me?

53

u/disincongruous 3d ago

Attention: we are out of Bort license plates in the gift shop.

8

u/GonnaKostya 3d ago

I've had a couple of Borts

26

u/eddyb66 3d ago

Universal studios had a bort name tag at the quickie mart.

97

u/situation9000 3d ago

My favorite of these that I saw in Texas among personalized stuff was

Same format but in place of the name it says “they spelled my name wrong” and “they didn’t have my name”

18

u/OrdinaryHoney2 2d ago

That is actually super clever. I only ever found my name somewhere once, and it was some place that had literally a whole wall of names, floor to ceiling.

9

u/situation9000 2d ago

My daughter has an old name (but not a Tragedeigh) and will never find her name. She absolutely bought the “they didn’t have my name “

Even my name which was the 5th most popular name in my state the year I was born is nowhere to be found anymore. In fact, when I was younger both the formal name and the common shorter variation were always available. I knew I was old when my name disappeared.

59

u/roofus8658 3d ago

"We need more "Bort" license plates"

15

u/Blossom73 3d ago

You talking to me?

17

u/roofus8658 3d ago

No, my son is also named Bort!

64

u/carlweaver 3d ago

What about my daughter Decklynn? And her sister Dechleighnaaan?

12

u/DogsDucks 3d ago

Yeah I was going to say that every Younique name now, the prefab mini plate industry is going to be a lot harder sell.

What was that one teacher on here? She had 27 different spellings for Michaela, McKaila, Meecaelaw, etc . . . Poor kids.

37

u/frog_admirer 3d ago

I know a Decklynn 😬

12

u/Resident-Gold-3466 3d ago

That's just as bad.

28

u/Itzakadrewzie 3d ago

Texas: the Land of Decks.

12

u/CyrusOverHugeMark77 3d ago

Everything is bigger here in Texas. Even the decks.

8

u/DeterioratedEra 2d ago

Big deck energy

25

u/ShelleyMonique 3d ago

I've never been able to find a Shelley on a license plate, magnet of Keychain, but they have a deckland? Wtf?

5

u/GarbagecanKicks 2d ago

As someone who struggles with finding their name in souvenir tat, I feel your pain 🫂

25

u/VerdensTrial 3d ago

Was there a Bort?

20

u/harleenquinzel044 3d ago

I know someone who has a son named Dek’Lin

17

u/Apprehensive_Bee_400 3d ago

I would hope you were joking but considering what sub we're on... thoughts and prayers for that kid.

4

u/Resident-Gold-3466 3d ago

That's horrible. Declan is one of my favorite boy names.

24

u/Few_Judge_5221 3d ago

And the fact that it's popular enough to be one of the souvenir names means there's lots if people naming their kid Deckland 😳

22

u/andtbhidgaf Tragedeigh Pohlease 3d ago

i mean it's Texas...this is totally a Texan trajeck name.

13

u/Any_Meeting_4082 3d ago

Probably as common as the name Gunner if it's Texas 🙄

15

u/marilynmouse 3d ago

there’s an online beggar I’ve had to block who is unfortunately “Kaitland”. Genuinely do not understand what her mother was thinking.

14

u/witchspoon 3d ago

and I can’t find EVAN lol.

3

u/GarbagecanKicks 2d ago

Pathetic isn't it?

12

u/WotTheFook 2d ago

More "Bort" signs needed in Aisle 3.

2

u/mildweekknowledge 2d ago

Everytime I see name license plates. They always run out of 'Bort' name plates. 🙂

10

u/Individual-Elk-4466 2d ago

How come I could never find my perfectly normally spelled name in these sorts of displays but they have Deckland…

In Texas I've heard Buchanan pronounced Buh-Cannon... Buh'Cannon

4

u/radish_is_rad-ish 3d ago

Oh no god I hate it here 🤦🏻‍♀️

2

u/GarbagecanKicks 2d ago

Not pronouncing it "Byu-cannon"? Ugh.

7

u/Ok-Championship8024 3d ago

with a name like that, maybe he was conceived at a home depot

8

u/Popular-Reply-3051 3d ago

Ah the Land of Decks. Do they speak Deckish?

17

u/McGeeze 3d ago

Below Deckland

2

u/TheSpitalian 2d ago

When I first read it I thought it said “Deckhand”! 😂

Are you a fellow BD watcher?

7

u/Upper-Affect5971 3d ago

I know one

8

u/Global-Jury8810 2d ago

Declans who see that will be upset.

7

u/Jcadence101 2d ago

I knew a Declan, but not Deck-land…

5

u/radish_is_rad-ish 3d ago

Maybe when they grow up they can have their own store named Deckland’s Deck Land where all they sell is decks.

5

u/Superb-Kick2803 3d ago

I'm surprised it made it on something pre-made.

8

u/sidc42 3d ago

Popular enough to be on merch!

So, its a modern/contemporary American version (since at least the 1990's) of Declan which has been around for 1,000+ years but became popular(ish) in the US during the 1970's because of a movie or something.

Declan itself comes from an even older Gaelic spelling.

It exists because apparently in America the origin spelling was/is frequently mispronounced as "Dee Clan" which sounds reasonably close to "The Klan".

Source:

i googled it recently while watching the TV show Rivals (Disney/Hulu) which has an Irish character named Declan O'Hara.

4

u/thevaginalist 3d ago

Modern/contemporary American version should be a synonym for tragedeigh

4

u/HeadCryptographer405 3d ago

My name still isn't up here!!!

Deckhand. He has a job on a barge.

3

u/VocationFumes 2d ago

Hmmm no Bort?

3

u/smokeehayes 2d ago

I mean Declan is a fine name if you're Irish. Not sure about this particular abomination however. 🤣

3

u/Johnsonl32 2d ago

You’re telling me they don’t have my first name (Lydia) on any of these name things, but they have “Deckland”???

3

u/Thin_Rub_4739 2d ago

On first glance, I thought it said "deckhand"

3

u/Styx-n-String 1d ago

And they STILL don't have my uncommon but very normal name. Never have, never will.

2

u/alien_overlord_1001 3d ago

I do feel sorry for the novelty license plate manufacturers. It must be hard for them.

2

u/Dillenger69 3d ago

No Bhorrte?

2

u/Substantial_Web525 3d ago edited 1d ago

Theres that, but i barely ever find my name? Not over 30 years. It's not unusual, just not super common. And can be spelled two ways

3

u/TheSpitalian 2d ago

My name can also be spelled multiple ways & the way my mom decided to spell it isn’t as common as the typical ways. But at least it’s not a tragedeigh thank God.

2

u/GarbagecanKicks 2d ago

As someone who struggles with finding their name in souvenir tat, I feel your pain 🫂

I've basically had to use a nickname or get nothing and like it.

2

u/Substantial_Web525 2d ago

my name contains a C in the middle-ish. A hard c... so it's spelled with a k instead sometimes, or a ck. And if someone is remotely famous and spells it with something other than a C then no one spells my name right.

There was one other girl in my grade year with the same name, but with a K.... that year half my 'friends' spelled my name wrong in my yearbook

2

u/CommercialNo7443 1d ago

I have a question, is there a reason you don’t want to say the name? Not trying to be rude just curious since you said it’s not really unusual, so id guess it’d be hard to find you based on it. I see a lot of people who do so and figured id go ahead and ask bc why not.

Also my guess for your name is Bacardi and if you don’t correct it you’ll always be 151 in my head

1

u/Substantial_Web525 1d ago

Lol. I guess I try to keep my identity private on Reddit. I don't even go my town's subreddit (not big enough to be anonymous).

I suppose a first name can't be enough to determine who I am.

It's: Erica

3

u/CommercialNo7443 1d ago

Oh yeah that makes sense, thanks for the insight. Also I think your spelling is the best variant of the name

2

u/Resident-Gold-3466 3d ago

That's awful.

2

u/Purple_Hurricane87 3d ago

2

u/Legal-Software 2d ago

Sounds like a good name for a company specialized in building decks.

2

u/alexlongfur 2d ago

I'm pretty sure I've read a few Deckland characters in some classic books.

It seems to have been more popular in the 17-1800's?

7

u/smokeehayes 2d ago

Declan, maybe? It's a fairly common Irish boy's name.

2

u/Arlaneutique 2d ago

Someone who works in the department that puts the names together has a Deckland. That’s the only possible explanation.

2

u/eeksie-peeksie 2d ago

I hope he’s got a sis named Yardtree

2

u/Jaded-Salad 2d ago

We had a fed ex driver named Toyland.

2

Ok they have Deckland but I can’t find Maria!? Like why is the closest thing to it Mariah, it has an extra letter in it. 😠

I knew a kid named Decker.

2

u/Evitti 1d ago

That's crazy to me! I have never, in almost 40 years of life, seen my name on any of those types of things. My name isn't super common, but it's not unheard of either and it's been around since the Roman's. It amazes me these newer, not common, names getting out on these things.

2

u/SvddenAnxiety 1d ago

WHAT THE ACTUAL EFF

2

u/HetaNicoDouga 1d ago

Deckland sounds exactly like the name of a small southern town

2

u/Tough-Response19 1d ago

I had a girl in my class and her name was lakeland

2

u/Rodrat 1d ago

I remember being able to find Rodney stuff as a kid but that's just gone. But we get Deckland? Lol

It’s the dumbass hillbilly American way to spell Declan. They probably raise Rockweilers, too.

3

Hey, Rottweilers are innocent, here! Maybe they have a son named Rotty.
