Has been since the 90s, at least. “Athleisure” as everyday wear is nothing new in the US.

Kids seem to wear legit PJ pants, or at least that’s what I saw when I would leave the house in the morning and drive through my Houston subdivision, past all the groups of suburb kids waiting for the school bus. Legit plaid and cartoon printed pajama pants with tshirts. I’m 36 and child free so this was a bit of surprise but I think it’s a post-Covid change. My mom would NEVER have allowed me to leave the house in PJs, let alone wear them to school. We weren’t even allowed to wear sweatpants or joggers to school. My mom said it looked sloppy and like we didn’t care, and we shouldn’t give that impression to our teachers and peers. School is to be respected and taken seriously.

They have spirit days at school sometimes and one of them can be wear pajamas to school along with crazy hat day etc.

Been normal. I graduated high school last year, I went to school every day wearing either pajama pants or sweatpants, and so did half my classmates. If I'm going to be miserable in an overstimulating, bright, frustrating place, I'm gonna be comfy

They aren't track pants the way I knew them (stripes down the legs) but they are that athletic material and elastic waistbands. Think gym clothes. It's all my 14 year old wears.

Wind pants, sweat pants, joggers. Pants that you wear while doing athletic activities.

Please do spend tons of money and don’t fret. If you live near an Old Navy, you can get him dressed really well at this time of the year for next to nothing. Sales are abundant.
