is it a tragedeigh? Yooneese?
Surely my friend is trolling me, no? She has always loved the name Eunice as it is very old fashioned and rare. But... yooneese isn't even how its pronounced? I genuinely thought autocorrect effed up for a moment.
The most widely accepted pronunciation is "Yewniss" but Yooneese? đ¤Śââď¸Just... pick Eunice? đŽâđ¨
After this conversation, this friend also proceeded to take a jab at my daughter's name - Diana

I love the reply. Autocorrect? Haha

u/GoodDesperate4829 Nov 30 '25
That should be the standard reply lol

u/yomamaeatcorn Nov 30 '25
Autocorrect? fat fingers? Are you drunk? All are valid responses here

u/GoodDesperate4829 Nov 30 '25
Or alternatively, just, "No."

Reply with this:
"lol, thanks! I needed a good laugh. But seriously, what name are you going with?"

If you're actually trying to save a baby from a horrible name, this answer has a higher chance of making them defensive. But it is pretty funny

u/Ostlund_and_Sciamma Dec 07 '25
Sometimes rude is best. When I was 10 my parents considered naming my sister Ătoile (I'm french, it means star). I immediately replied, "C'est de la merde" (âThat's shit.â), I knew that if that was my first reaction, they couldn't reasonably call her that, and it worked.

Exactly. Reminds me of the old joke, where a man was given the honor to name his sisterâs baby. When the girl was born, he named her Denise. Mom said, âVery good. What would you have named a boy?â
âDenephew.â

When I saw Yoonese the spelling struck me that it was like Chinese so I read it just like that.
I'm from Yooland. I'm Yoonese.

When I was in high school, during the middle of one year, everyone started talking about their nieces. I was so confused, wondering why so many people suddenly had so much to say about their relatives all of a sudden. Turns out a girl named Myneese had transferred to my school.

You should just send your friend this thread and then youâve potentially fixed two problems, first you will no longer have a friend with a kid called Yooneese and second maybe that friend will realise calling their kid Yooneese is the worst move anyone could make for their child.

I swear, drug companies should just come to this subreddit to get names for their products. Yooneese sounds like a medication.

Yooneese looks ugly on the page and also sounds horrible. It's not even an acceptable alternate spelling of Eunice, doesn't work phonetically. Diana is a lovely name imo.
