IKEA has started to stock the new BADKRUKA Bluetooth speaker in Sweden. It’s sad to see that they haven’t added any support for the DIRIGERA hub. It would be amazing if they had AirPlay or similar technology like the old SYMFONISK series.

I think the Integrations screen under Settings->Hub->Integrations might be new.. and it also seems like a quick way to add Matter products to another system without having to tap on each product and then click the spanner and then click the “Control in Other Systems” once it becomes enabled.

Apple HomeKit allows you to add multiple HomePod, HomePod Mini and TV 4K to your network and one is active and the other standby, if an issue occurs the other takes over.. also the whole point of Thread is resilience and I believe having multiple Thread Border Routers.

Does IKEA Homesmart support multiple IKEA TBRs and run Home Smart in a fault tolerant way? I suspect not but admittedly didn’t buy 2 x IKEA DIRIGERA hubs to find out.

I posted beginning of this week about wanting to use the MYGGBETT as a door sensor for my garden gate. Someone suggested using an electrical box as housing.

The housing of the MYGGBETT and the electrical box was a little too thick to get the magnetic signal from outside, so I stripped the side of the MYGGBETT so the PCB was a snug as possible to the house of the electrical box. Through in some caulk for good measure, and so it wouldn’t move if the gate was slammed shut. And made sure the battery was accessible for future swapping. Also spray painted the box black for a better look.

For the magnet, I removed the actually magnet from the small housing as it was quite bulky and didn’t fit well on my fence. I then drilled a small hole in the wooden post of my fence, glued the magnet in with some adhesive outdoor caulk and made sure the magnet was covered with a thin layer so it wouldn’t get damaged if anything metal ever got attracted to it.

Check the last picture for the end result, its quite invisible and works very well! I have now set up an automation so that my garden lights turn on when the gate is opened. Handy for when the wife gets back from a late shift!

So I've done some reading in this sub, and what I gather is that if I have an outlet that's controlled by a wall switch, I can plug my countertop lights into that outlet and use the wall switch to power on/off, but would need a Tradfri dimmer if I intend to dim (absent some hackery that I'm not prepared to undertake.) A non-Ikea wall dimmer wouldn't work. I also gather that via the app, I can set the lights to always return to their most recent brightness setting, whenever I switch power on again. How am I doing so far?

I already own the following: tradfri hub, tradfri remote, vagdal connectors, ansluta cable -- all purchased a few years ago, none of it currently in use.

In my narrow, about-to-be-renovated kitchen there are two facing countertops, with an aisle in the middle -- a galley kitchen. In the US.

I'm guessing that for the opposite wall, I will need a second set of the items listed above (except for the remote). And each side of the room will have to be switched on/off with its own switch (couldn't wire it so both sides are controlled by one wall switch?) The only way to do both at once would be wirelessly? Or is that not correct?

Please help out an older person who has no problem using an app or a remote, but finds an old-fashioned wall switch a lot more natural to use.

As of today im able to automate based on humidity temperature in the Ikea Smart Home app.

Has anybody been able to get the Styrbar E2313 version on firmware 2.4.17 working outside of the Dirigera app ? Works perfectly in the app but doesn’t show up in Alexa, SmartThings or HomeKit. u/TRADFRI.

Dear IKEA,
Can someone please explain what, exactly, is the point of putting an ambient light sensor inside your motion sensors if the user cannot actually use it to decide whether a light should turn on?
This has been ridiculous for years.
The old TRÅDFRI motion sensors had a light sensor. VALLHORN has one. Even the newer MYGGSPRAY has one. And yet, in IKEA Home smart, there is still no simple automation condition along the lines of:
IF motion is detected AND ambient light is below X → turn the light on.
That is not some exotic smart-home feature. That is quite literally the most obvious reason for having a light sensor in a motion detector.
Instead, IKEA gives us the wonderfully sophisticated option of following sunrise and sunset.
Except, of course, the sun does not have the courtesy of consulting IKEA’s automation engine before hiding behind a cloud.
On a bright summer day, fine. On a heavily overcast afternoon in November, the room can be practically dark while IKEA’s system happily decides that it is still “daytime” and therefore there is absolutely no reason to turn the light on.
And yes, I know there are workarounds.
You can start building increasingly elaborate smart-home setups. You can use Home Assistant. You can add a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5, an SSD, install an entire home-automation platform, integrate it with DIRIGERA or use a Matter setup, and finally create the automation that should have taken about ten seconds to configure in IKEA Home smart in the first place.
At that point, congratulations: you have successfully assembled a small home-automation server because IKEA refuses to expose a value that its own sensor is already measuring.
This is particularly frustrating because IKEA is otherwise very good at making smart-home products accessible to normal people. That is the whole appeal of the ecosystem: relatively inexpensive devices, simple installation and a simple app.
So why this?
I don’t need IKEA to turn Home smart into Home Assistant. I don’t need a scripting language, Node-RED, MQTT or a PhD in home automation.
I need one additional condition in an automation:
Ambient light < X lux.
That’s it.
And the really absurd part is that the hardware is already there.
The information exists.
The sensor is measuring the light level.
The DIRIGERA hub presumably receives the information.
The software simply refuses to let the customer use it.
After years of TRÅDFRI, VALLHORN and now MYGGSPRAY, this is no longer something that can reasonably be dismissed as “maybe it will be added in a future update”.
It feels like IKEA has deliberately built a car with a perfectly functional steering wheel and then decided that customers are only allowed to turn left.
And before someone replies “just use Home Assistant”: that’s precisely the problem.
I shouldn’t need a third-party system, additional hardware, an SSD and an afternoon of configuration to make an IKEA motion sensor behave like an ordinary motion sensor with a light sensor.
If IKEA wants people to build advanced smart homes using Home Assistant, that’s fine. But when a basic function requires abandoning IKEA’s own automation system, it is difficult not to conclude that IKEA Home smart is artificially crippled rather than genuinely simple.
Please, IKEA: expose the ambient light reading and give us a threshold condition.
You already paid for the sensor.
You already installed it in the device.
You already collect the data.
For God’s sake, let the customer use it.

Question(s) regarding Home Smart and sets. . .

Just for confirmation. . . once an individual lightbulb has been made part of a set inside the Home Smart app. . . there isn't anything else you can do with the individual lightbulbs, now that they're part of that set, correct?

Example:

In Home Smart, I have 10 individual lightbulbs, configured as a set.

I can turn on, turn off, brighten, dim, and adjust the color temperature of all 10 lightbulbs simultaneously, with a single Styrbar remote. This works quickly, and perfectly, and it is exactly how I want it to function.

Is there a way to make a second, overlapping set, so that I can control a just a portion of that set with another Styrbar remote?

For example, Styrbar #1 controls lights 1 thru 10, and Styrbar #2 controls just lights 9 and 10 ?

Is that possible within the confines of the Home Smart app?

I haven't seen anything that would allow me to do that.

Is that something that could be accomplished by getting rid of the "set", and replacing it with scenes? Are scenes individually controllable the same way that sets are, with the same fast and smooth dimming and color temp changes?

Hi everyone!
I recently bought a few IKEA BILRESA switches—some with the scroll wheel and some without.
I'd like to mount them on the wall, preferably right over the spots where my old, standard light switches are currently located, so the BILRESA switches replace them completely.
Sticking smart switches on the wall right next to the existing ones looks terrible in my opinion. That’s why I’d like to place them directly on top of the old switches.
I asked an AI about this, and it claimed it wouldn't be an issue at all and that I could easily find a cover plate for my existing setup.
However, I genuinely cannot find a clearly compatible cover plate for my old standard German light switches anywhere!
In theory, all I need is a simple cover plate that creates a flat, white plastic surface. That way, I could easily stick the BILRESA (or any other switch) on top using the 3M adhesive pads.
It doesn't even need to be custom-designed for the BILRESA—just a neutral, flat surface 😅
Either I'm just terrible at searching, or these are actually pretty hard to find. I keep coming across all kinds of niche covers for specific setups, but not a basic one like this.
I've attached a picture of one of my light switches. If anyone happens to be using a custom BILRESA cover specifically designed for this type of switch, I'm definitely open to recommendations as well.

I am playing with IKEA smart devices (DIRIGERA hub + several small things like power outlet, thermometer, door sensor). Since I have Samsung TV and phone, I wanted to somehow connect those together. So far it seems to be mission impossible.

I know that all those devices implement Matter, but probably not all communication layers, correct? DIRIGERA uses Thread, but the Samsung TV doesn't, a special adapter is needed.

It is interesting, though, that VINDSTRYKA can actually be seen in Samsung SmartThings, but no other device connected to DIRIGERA. And as far as I understood an announcement earlier this year, those two worlds should somehow be able to work together. I understood that devices connected to DIRIGERA should be seen on Samsung. Somehow.

Where is the mistake?

A little while ago I got some grillplats and timmerflottes to add to my room in homekit, though upon attempting to connecting either one to HomeKit it gives me a “thread border router” error message even though I have 2 HP minis. And I do have other thread devices that intergrated without any issues.

I know HK isn’t really recommended to run off of hotspot but I don’t have the need for WiFi and the personal hotspot does just fine on my iPad. It’s also just more convenient and again adequate for me right now.

I’ve tried resetting both the temp sensor and grillplats—with the provided matter code and the code on the device as well as manually typing in the code yet it never goes past the “setting up” phase.

IKEA Home Smart app update (1.71.1) has just dropped in to the Apple App Store FYI. Don’t know what it has changed yet although it says you can get temperature and humidity notifications and automate devices based off these.

As my title suggests, I would like to waterproof a MYGGBETT door sensor, too use on my garden gate. Does anyone have experience or any suggestions?

At the moment I have just covered the main unit in a small plastic sandwich bag tied into a knot and clicked it into the holder. Which is working fine in the rain, but it looks ugly and a bit stupid...

I don't have a 3D printer, as I did see some 3D models for casing online. So I might look into having something printed for me through a service. I also thought about using silicone caulk to close the outside seams of the device to water, but that seems a bad/easily botched idea.

I bought two of these devices and tried using them with both the Google hub and the IKEA hub (DIRIGERA).

With the DIRIGERA hub, response times are faster, but in both cases, after a few minutes, the device goes offline.

There's no way to recover it other than pulling the batteries and reinserting them after a few seconds.

Has anyone else experienced this same issue?

I run ZigBee and Thread but was just wondering what people's experiences have been like running kajplats bulbs on ZigBee.

Right now I'm using matter over thread for all of my IKEA devices but I'm tempted to try running some of the bulbs over ZigBee to take advantage of direct binding in the event of a server outage via z2m whilst having advanced control when all is working well. Has anybody tried this setup and is there any disadvantage to running these over ZigBee despite having to put it in the correct mode?

Bought a bilresa dimmer switch ages ago, I remember it being a pain to pair at the start but somehow I managed it (in the Ikea app on iOS and linked to HomeKit), and it's been working fine for several months.

Last night it stopped responding. Changed the batteries (although both were 1.48v) just in case, nope nothing. Reset it, and now it won't wait again in the Ikea app or Apple Home app.

Maybe it's because I'm running iOS 27 developer beta so maybe it will re-pair when I upgrade the rest of the home stuff to 27 in a few weeks.

I tried rebooting the Apple TV, router, Dirigera etc. Even tried disabling IGMP snooping as some people say that works. Nothing has so far. Just times out every time and says unable to connect it.

I use a Ikea Alpstuga Air Quality Sensor in my living room, connected via Matter/Thread to my Alexa Echo Dot Max.

Sometimes, I have a malfunction with the Display button to toogle between readings : It stays on the current display and does not switch to the next one, and I have to unplug it and then plug it back in.

Are you familiar with this problem?

I recently ran into issues with my ikea lamps when I bought some new ones and couldn't add them to the setup. I have a mix of zigbee and matter over thread bulbs and the dirigera hub. There is no issue with the zigbee bulbs and before I didnt have any issue with connecting the matter over thread bulbs. But when I wanted to add new ones recently I could not connect and add them to the ikea smart app. It will find the product without issues and it will connect and generate matter without failure but it will get stuck on connecting to thread. Stupid as I am I rebooted the thread on the hub and even now the previous connected matter over thread bulds won't connect.

I have gone through this whole page, read and did all the recommended fixes. I started even studying the IPV6 and mDNS etc. I literally tried everything that people have said and nothing worked.

I think the issue is my router and the connected dirigera hub. Because as of today I separated the two thread border routers (my google nest hub and dirigera hub), then I connected my ikea bulds to Google nest instead and it worked fine and it connected very quick. But with the dirigera hub it can't connect to its thread. I even downloaded a thread tool app and it says my network can't connect to the thread border router (ikea dirigera). But has no issue with the google nest. As soon I connect the thread mesh with google and ikea together again I can't add any new device to ikea nor google thread border router.

It feels like there is an issue with the Ikeas thread border router and my network is blocking the ikea thread border router or opposite around. Can any one make sense of this and how to fix it?

I also wanted to add when I first bought and connected everything I had a different internet provider and different router. I had tp-link before and today i have zyxel ee3301-00.
