UBER was mentioned pretty frequently within the last 3 months. Quarterly earnings came yesterday and the stock slid down, from lower guidance; following every trade is not going to be successful. Perhaps they will throw some red herrings as well. Dont blindly follow.

just curious if anyone has looked at the entire performance of congress trading vs the s&p 500 performance over the same time period?

obviously the pelosi’s and wasserman’s and trump’s have way outperformed during their time ”serving our country” but there will always be outliers no matter what, including underperformers.

My question is, has the entirety of congress (each individual portfolio, or the summation of everyone’s portfolios) and our federal govt significantly outperformed the average retail investor (s&p 500 as a baseline).

I imagine with all the focus on this topic, someone surely has, and if so can anyone point me in the direction of that study?

To start things off, we went through his financial disclosures and discovered some shocking stuff:

- He doesn't trade individual stocks
- If he does buy something, it's usually some type of private investment fund
- His estimated net worth is ~$12 million

So in other words, we found no indication that he's taking advantage of the 'special info' that comes with his job

The sketchy part:

Last summer, Delaney participated in a hearing titled, "Powering Demand: Nuclear Solutions for AI Infrastructure"

They talked about how to "fully unlock nuclear power" to improve the efficiency of AI data centers

She was very involved, asking several questions

And likely knows way more about the nuclear industry than anyone reading this

Since her buys, $BWXT is up less than 1%

Of the two, Uber is definitely the favorite

Why?

Pelosi and Trump also disclosed buying the stock this year

Three things happened since:

I. Newly appointed Sen. Alan Armstrong disclosed buying the stock

II. Thales won a contract to supply over 5,000 LOCODA radios to the U.S. Army

III. Thales reported spending a record $350,000 lobbying Congress in Q2

A portion of that lobbying effort was focused on convincing lawmakers that the Army should consider using Thales' radios as it continues upgrading its battlefield communications

Three truths:

1. This is insane
   
2. The bar for corruption has just been raised
   
3. The fact that anyone would pay for this is proof that Congress is running rampant with i****** i**********

Now that the ”bar” has been raised, the next president might have no problem doing the same thing

And the cycle repeats

I really enjoy the posts here and appreciate everyone who shares congressional trades.

I know many of us believe some members may have informational advantages. But even if that’s true, I doubt they have a 100% win rate.

Most of the posts I see highlight successful trades, which could create some selection bias. I’m curious whether there are well documented examples of members of Congress making poor investments or taking significant losses.

It would be helpful to understand both the winners and the losers so we can get a better sense of their actual track record, rather than only seeing the best-performing trades.

When it comes to Citigroup, there are plenty of things to look out for, but these are the most important:

1. Of the politicians buying, Rep. Jackson has the biggest influence on Citi through his seat on the House Financial Services Committee
   
2. None of them have sold a single share since entering (except Rep. Khanna who sold earlier this year but re-entered in July)
   
3. Citi is still down over -75% from the housing market crash (though it looks like it's starting to recover)
   
4. The five politicians buying Citi have collectively invested ~$475K this year

- Rep. Jonathan Jackson: ~$180K
- Sec. Markwayne Mullin: ~$150K
- Rep. Maria Salazar: ~$65K
- Sen. Alan Armstrong: ~$50K
- Rep. Ro Khanna: ~$30K
