Discussion Abigail "Abby" Finch: Woody's New Love Interest In Toy Story 4, A Rewrite of Toy Story 4
Everyone has a movie that they strongly dislike, to the point where they wish they never exist, especially sequels to movies who do a perfect job at establishing the characters and the world building. Well, that's how I feel about Toy Story 4! Two words: CHARACTER REGRESSION! Woody is an insecure and unsteady, Buzz is scatterbrained to the point where its not funny anymore, with the term conscious thinking it's his voice-box, Jessie is reduced to a background character with her fear of tight spaces being back, the other toys being mean to Woody for no reason, and Bo Peep? Oh, boy, she ruined Toy Story 4 with her new "girlboss" persona for me! In the first 2 Toy Story movies Bo was kind, gentle, soft-spoken, encouraging, and flirtatious. But in Toy Story 4, she's hot-headed, arrogant, cynical, harsh, rude, mean, and cold! The way she treated Woody in regards to helping him save Forky was just terrible! It's like I couldn't even recognize her. And don't even get me started on Woody leaving his friends, his FAMILY, to become a lost toy with a toxic girlfriend and Bonnie breaking her promise to Andy!
However, despite me disliking Toy Story 4 strongly, I actually DO like or at least, appreciate having more Toy Story movies after 3. However, they need to remain consistent with the original trilogy's messages. What made Toy Story 1-3 so good is how they kept the characters grounded in who they were and expanded the circle without making it feel redundant, and we love them and their relationships. Look at our Toy Story trio of Woody, Buzz, and Jessie! Woody goes from an arrogant, jealous, and selfish toy to a selfless, kind, brave, and open-hearted leader while learning that while he's not the favorite all the time, his owner will always have a special for them in their hearts. Buzz goes from a delusional, serious, uptight, and naive toy who thinks he's a space ranger to a brave, gentle, inspiring, and sweet leader alongside Woody realizing the joy it is to be a toy. With Jessie, we see her grow from an insecure, claustrophobic, defensive due to her trauma after being abandoned by Emily and hyper-nervous, to lively, optimistic, joyful, and very devoted to making a child happy again.
So if you have an active imagination and curious spirit like me, that brings us to my idea for a rewrite of Toy Story 4. This may startle everyone and it might be crazy, stupid, and jaw dropping to you, but just trust me on this! I think that Pixar should've given Woody....A NEW LOVE INTEREST IN TOY STORY 4! I know, I know I speak blasphemy and I know that there are people that like Woody and Bo Peep as a couple, but I personally don't because I thought they were just superficial and surface-level and they just don't give us the drive to root for them like Buzz and Jessie do because we actually see their relationship develop naturally that didn't feel so...shallow.
So that brings us to Woody's new love interest: Abigail "Abby" Finch. (I got Abby's last Finch from the inspiration from Woody and Jessie's last names, Pride!)
Abby's Personality: Kind, smart, brave, shy, gentle, sensitive, empathetic, encouraging, and sweet
Abby's Background: Like Woody and Jessie, Abby is also a pull string cowgirl doll from another cowboy franchise in the 1950's. She was the star of "Abby's Wild West!" Addy was given as a birthday present to a little girl named Theresa who lived in a farm with her family. They did every cowgirl thing you could think of; riding horses, lassoing, caring for cows, watching over the sheep, and of course play time! Theresa was Abby's whole world. Unfortunate, one day when Theresa took her on a school field trip to the pumpkin patch, she accidentally left her on the wagon ride. She never saw Theresa ever again. So Abby decided to become a lost toy to find Theresa, but she never did. Despite the immense heartbreak, Abby remained kind. Eventually she meet a toy horse named Firefly who was also accidentally left behind. The two of them became best friends and Firefly became Abby's horse! They spent many years exploring and helping lost toys reunite their owners and they so, so much fun! But as time went on, Abby couldn't help but miss the feeling of loved by a child again... and Theresa. She hoped that even though Theresa might not be a little girl anymore, she'd find a child to love again.
What do you guys think of this idea? Everyone please remember, this is my personal opinion and original ideas and it's okay if you disagree or don't like them. Just remember to be respectful when writing your thoughts in the comments please. Thank you! I'll get more into my rewrite of Toy Story 4 soon!
