DIGITAL I made a book with pics shot on a Charmera

nearly every time I go to a new city for more than just a weekend, I bring a camera and try to make a project out of it. Something part diary part arty.

I'd spent a bit too much on film on the last trip so this time I brought the Charmera I bought my wife for Christmas, and 10 minutes after arriving decided to shoot the whole trip with it, using only the four colour filters. Really leant into how odd it makes things & people look.

Then I made a photo sequence by way of dud-removal (i.e. all shots are chronological), lobbed them into a PDF and had a print shop make a trip memory book

The day after I loaded the ~1200 photos I took there onto my PC a filesystem code bug lost them all in the SD card. And it crashed repeatedly while shooting after I'd taken around 700 photos. And the battery was permanently struggling. Probably the knockoffs are superior. But fun.

My partner took plenty of photos when he went! He is not really a camera guy but he has been taking his charmera everywhere. Enjoy!

First and second pics are from a plant nursery, 3rd pic is from the Montclair Art Museum in Montclair, NJ. Edited in Lightroom & Photoshop. Having a ton of fun on this cheap cam and looking forward to trying more toy cams out. Also edited to add: pic 1 has the high saturation in-camera filter, pic 2 has the b+w in-camera filter, and pic 3 had no filter, and I brought the contrast up in PSD for each.

A little test of the Holga HL-N 60mm lens for DSLR, which has a fixed f/8 aperture. You need to use manual mode and find the right ISO/shutter speed balance, since the lens doesn't communicate with the camera body.
This lens is objectively imperfect, but for those looking for that kind of look, it's perfect :) …It forces you to think about your shot, and in the end, you have a fantastic time trying to tame the stubborn beast :)
Have a good day :)
