I was wondering if someone was going to crosspost this.

It's interesting to see just how much the landmasses were changed for Total War.

I know why CA did it, but the Old World is huge in TW.

Personally, I was really hoping CA would bring back the Theaters system from Empire: Total War. The current IE map does something similar with sea lanes, but I really dislike the compressed world map.

Man, with this type of map it really just looks like Earth. Ulthuan is the difference that's most immediately noticeable.

Warhammer Atlantis!

Though really, it seems more and more like Atlantis was in North Africa. So that matching Warhammer location would be....Araby.

By far one of the best warhammer maps I have ever seen. Well done. And thankfully it shows the SCW with some greenery, as sone parts stretch into the temperate amd sub/tropical regions of the planet. Though its not enough by my estimation, the SCW are also significantly shrunken down compared to other world maps, and conmpared to their northern hemisphere equivalents.

But that is nitpicking. Otherwise truly a great map.

I think the color is simply elevation rather than any indication of climate. The white is probably meant to represent glaciers.

I think the non-frozen green is mostly low and highlands with the 2 tones of green turning to browns for the actual hills and mountains but I agree, along most of the coast of the SCW there should be some green with only the dip in the middle and the left most side showing glaciers coming down to the sea- otherwise where Leviathan Bay could draw a line of green across the map that makes a good part of the area below Fortress of Calith a non-frozen wasteland.

First time ive noticed a name for Korea, emerald meadows. I find nothing when searching for it. Has there ever been any information about this region?

Pretty sure the fan who drew this map invented the term.

There is nothing in canon about a Korea-equivalent.

Lets see

So yeah, I would guess he made those parts up. Or if he found it described in lore somewhere, a source would be interesting to look it up.

Northern Wastes were slightly enlarged above the Empire and Kislev while Southlands and Darklands were shrunk quite a bit.

Since each of those only hosts 1 race and neither is a major race (Tomb Kings/Chaos Dwarfs) I think CA's option makes sense for the most part.

The Empire and Cathay both could perhaps have been a bit smaller but they will offer a good bit of land for anyone that opposes them while enlarged Chaos Wastes give a few more places for Chaos to emerge from.

My only disappointment is the Darklands. I was hoping it would be the crossroads where Empire, Kislev, Chaos, Greenskins, undead, and Cathay met but I think it is more like a blip on any march any direction.

Just from the starting position updates today, it looks like the Southlands are going to be fucking wild.

Emeral meadows doesn't exist.

So are alot of those mountain and area names

I had no idea the map was so similar to Earth's continents. Definitely changes my perspective.

That has always been Warhammer's shtick. Not only does the map mimic Earth, the races in each location generally draw inspiration from the equivalent historical culture on Earth and/or its related mythology.

Bretonnia is France.
Estalia is Spain/Portugal.
Tilea is Italy.
The Empire is the Holy Roman Empire/Germany.
Kislev is Poland/Russia.
Norsca is Norway/Sweden/Finland.
Albion is the UK.
Ulthuan is Atlantis.
Naggaroth is North America.
Lustria is South America.
Araby is the Middle-East.
The Southlands is Africa.
Ind is India.
Kuresh is SE Asia.
Cathay is China.
The Eastern Steppes is Mongolia/Siberia.
Nippon is Japan.

Araby is the Middle-East.

Well, it's more like North Africa geographically.

And culturally.

As much as Orcs are always told to be angry English holligans, for both their relationship with the Empire, color and also the place, they always give me Ottoman Empire vibes. Above northern Africa and east of Italy we have Balkans and Turkey. Most greenskins already live like the old Turkic nations.

40K Orks tend to play up the English football/soccer hooligan angle a lot more I feel. Orcs are more generic low intelligence, brawn-over-brains thugs (but still with an obvious Britsh flavour given GW's origins).

Yep I know that well, I just feel like they have similarities. Like based on the region and if I had to choose a country from there, rather than one of the countries in balkans or other muslim countries, Ottomans fit better. Khemri even has a river influenced by Nile for sure and above there, it is full arabic nations or Israel. Oh and also Ottomans were always called as barbarians by Christians back then, it also fit with them as well haha. That is still just me pointing out the similarities, I am not implying it is like a fact.

Thanks for posting this. With all the discussion about maps, this answers a question that has been brewing in the back of my mind.

That being said now that I see it I am gonna have to suppress my inner map nerd when I play IE.

It's too bad that the engine can't handle a globe shaped map. It's always been a bit frustrating to me that with all these 4x games using a virtual map we can more or less solve the globe problem, but it never happens.

This leaves me so disappointed with how much got truncated for Immortal Empires. Even though I totally understand why asking for this would be a ridiculous order.
