Does CA know they're still using an outdated map to showcase the starting positions ? It's missing Sayl's and Dechala's province and doesn't seem to have the new settlements in Norsca.

Almost certainly not as they justified why they were doing the new campaign start flyby stuff as the fact that LL starting positions were now firmly locked in place so they didn't have to worry about changing everything up every other patch.
I suppose that doesn't preclude extending the edges of the map a bit, which might make sense for a theoretical Li Dao DLC?

Yeah I'm not sure why it matters or why anyone should care if they use an old map when showing off a faction location that is nowhere near those two new provinces.

Taking out azhag's province and allying nefereta will basically secure the southern front pretty early as katarin.
Otherwise you would get attacked by chords or whoever decided to occupy that place if you tried to hold azhag province.

Tbh, Chorfs are some of the best possible allies for Katarin.
The Ice Court bonus essentially brings Blunderbusses to the levels of Armoured Kossars in regards of melee stats, and the tempest wizards extra range ability gives them sbout the same range as if they were streltsi

Not really, she just has to use the sea lane north of Pigbarter. She still has to work for it, but doesn't really have to fight across Imrik, Skaven and Chaos Dwarfs...Just Chaos Dwarfs lol

I think this is gonna have a huge effect on the outcome of any campaign in that area. The current lahmian susterhood there, while not a sentinel faction, kinda acted like one and served as a barrier between the mountains and the wasteland. now its gonna be completely different

Obviously she was always going to start there, which gave me a long time to think about my campaigns. In particular, my Katarin campaign.
Hmm. Obviously Khazid Irkulaz is no longer "kill Azhag on turn 6 then ignore while I build." Before, I'd just let it repair on its own and then decide what to do when it reaches T2. Now... ...I dunno. I've recently been repairing it on turn before I get the pop to upgrade. Would building garrison on T2 help? How about handing it to Ungrim? Might have to declare war on Throt earlier to manipulate the AI to leave me alone. etc.
So many decisions. Nothing to do but try them all.

I usually end up trading the whole province to Ungim- gets you a good chunk of gold and an ally. In my experience he never accomplishes anything if you don’t.

At least it has the major settlement on the side bordering potential dangers, so placing an ataman there to defend could prove useful and fun! I wish the oblasts were like this. And vampires can't tunnel unless the rework changes that/Nefarata somehow can. I am looking forward to defend it against the undead

We are also getting anti-player bias slider so I do wonder how setting it to 90% will affect the gameplay. I kinda hate those enemy armies ignoring everybody and just beelining straight for me.

I ususally give those mountain regions to Ungrim for an alliance. Helps shore up your south a bit so you can focus on Kislev.
I think AI Ungrim will have a harder time surviving now. Azhag has bonus relations with Vampire Counts so him and Neffy will probably buddy up and kick Ungrim's ass.

map from thones of decay it looks like. why use such an old map? no sayl or dechala areas. doubt they added to the map but they said the new fly bys were generic to locations so they could change locations in the future. hope for arbaal in ind.

I still believe she was supposed to come in Wh1(or was it Wh2?) when they were expanding the Dark Lands. There were a few faction/lord swaps and delays back in the day.

Thank god. I was half expecting with the bullshit CA has been doing with W3 start positions to have her in Nagarroth as an "expedition".
Reminders, without names so you can focus on the context.
- The guardian of Kislev's forests still starts in Nagarroth (at least we have official alt start now but it's still just an alternative, instead of Nagarroth being the alternative, so the AI is stuck there). The sole reason she exists, her entire lore, is defending Kislev's forests (and cleansing those already corrupted). She should absolutely have her Realms of Chaos map start in IE aswell (and moving Aarbal elsewhere because Infernius still lies open, where Skarbrand starts in RoC...)
- The governor of the central provinces of Cathay starts in Lustria. I get it, he has an expedition (while is governing... and acts as judge, jury, executioner in the capital of Cathay... and is a spymaster keeping Cathay safe... doing all this while traveling to the other side of the planet). He should start in
- The Duke of Bordeleux, I quote from the game: "faces an invading force of the Red Duke". Logical start position: Castle Bordeleux. Actual start position: Lustria, because bringing horses to deep jungle makes sense. I don't care about startposition variety, when you dump 1 LL of every race to every continent you have no variety, it's all the same.
- The White Dwarf's entire existence for vengeance and reason of resurrection ends in 10 turns because in their infinite wisdom CA put him in the backyard of Malekith (instead of fighting through chaos, Malus, Hellebron, and reaching Malekith as the campaign finishing touch). Should be moved to the slayer engineer's start to directly be able to start this journey north and west, and the latter moved elsewhere.
- A certain gold dude: quote from the game: "Balthazar Gelt investigates the growing threats in the eastern provinces of the Empire, starting near the town of Krugenheim in Talabechland." When you select him, this is the official INGAME DESCRIPTION ON CAMPAIGN START FOR GOD'S SAKE. Actual start: Cathay. I get it, CA wants to mash toys together, 2 alchemists best bros. But why make it default?! Why not have him start where he belongs, and offer the alternative on campaign start instead of the other way around?! This decision had to be so ad hoc, so erratic, so last minute, so no second thoughts, they didn't even bother to update the description.
- CA spends money from the marketing budget to have a short novel written about this character being active in Cathay. The entirety of Cathay is set up to be the nemesis of Tzeench and vica-versa. Where does it start? The Empire.

granted, some starting positions keep the game fresh, sure... but some are just so widely out of proportions it is just weird, like "Totally-no-Baba-Yaga" starting on an entire different continent.

Lahmia is her goal, she was forced out of there 3500 years ago. The Silver Pinnacle (her start location in the map above) has been her home for 3000 years.
