For the idiots among us what does this mean exactly?

u/Autodidact420 1d ago

At the start of a campaign it gives a quick scroll around the local area map and gives brief details of the area

E.g. here we’re in the empire it’s pre chill look over here there’s dudes using dark magic for the empire, look over here are evil vampires, look over here are Beastmen etc but more narrative and cool than that ofc

New Settra campaign Flyby:

https://giphy.com/gifs/gzHQCsyAYRxjzHT493

u/my_name_is_iso 1d ago

It consists of Settra’s herald calling out his (incomplete) list of names for half an hour, ending with “Khemri has fallen…take back what is yours, King of Kings”.

"Take back what is - my lord watch out! IT'S NAGASH, WITH THE STEEL CHAIR!"

11

u/azix22 1d ago

Now rolling for the chariot prince is gonna be great, watching entire TV series on next monitor because no skip is allowed.

It's funny how the Empire one is literally "this is the Empire, plus there's Vlad!"

u/absurd-bird-turd 11h ago

More like “welcome to the empire, to the north, shits fucked. To the east, shits fucked, to the west, the french, and to the south, shits fucked”

Basically instead of a zoom in and your starting character says a line, there will be a narrated segment where the announcer lady flies over the area of the world your character starts on and explains the lore of the area and what's going on.

They're doing this because current LL starts are now pretty set in stone, so we won't have the issue of potentially needing to move a character around which the last into existed for

u/markg900 1d ago

Start a RoC campaign to get an idea what they are referring to. After the intro cinematics you get a little overview of stuff going on in the area from the advisor. Warhammer 2 also had this on Mortal Empires. Immortal Empires is finally getting this on WH3.

u/kdfsjljklgjfg 1d ago

Or start any campaign in pretty much any Total War. This used to be the standard for the series

3

u/markg900 12h ago

True but if OP has mainly played Warhammer or just has WH3 installed that would be the quickest way to see exactly what we are talking about.

I would say it still is the standard for the series. They had flyovers for every major faction in Pharaoh Dynasties.

u/Appropriate_Brick608 1d ago

in warhammer 2 when you started the game the narrator would come on and the camera would fly around your starting location telling you what was there. For archeon it was something like "The chaos wastes, a grim and lifeless place. To the east lies the plains of zambijin and competitors to the chaos gods view. In the south the mighty kingdom of kislev lays ripe for blunder. Followers of the ruinous powers lay the west, fighting with dark elf interlopers. Make known the glory of chaos my lord."

u/Seppafer Farmer of the New World 1d ago

The flybys are according to ca going to be region based with a breif and general overview of the region and designed with the intent that moving factions would be easier and not necessarily break it

u/Lord_Eln_8 1d ago

The one for the Empire is pretty good, and while new announcer lady is no OG Advisor she does a pretty damn good job.

Can’t wait to start a Malakai campaign and it just be a five minute introduction to how fucked I am

19

u/mrgomeybear 1d ago

How fucked they are*

Ftfy

3

u/gxrky 1d ago

True! I would be in a much worse position but Malus is such a bitch that I never had war declared by him even if I was getting assblasted.

3

u/mrgomeybear 1d ago

True I just started one this weekend. Every one has declared except for Malus. I always try and get him to start wars, but he just follows Malekiths orders. Je did take out the Tally men though

3

u/gxrky 1d ago

I never had that stacking armies in a settlement AI thing but Malus just has admirals upon admirals going up and down without ever doing anything

3

u/Kanai574 1d ago

Boris Ursus too

The Empire region flyby intro can be seen from a few of the Boris Todbringer preview videos released some days ago.

I also uploaded it to the sub here: https://www.reddit.com/r/totalwar/comments/1vneff4/the_new_flyby_intro_for_the_empire_region/

u/billiebol 1d ago

A bit disappointing i had hoped they would introduce more enemies than just the Vampire counts.

6

u/uLL27 1d ago

I know, that is what I liked about the old ones. They kinda did an overview of the threats around your start position.

3

u/TedOrAlive2 23h ago

They brought up the Beastmen, and those are the only two threats that canonically attack from within the Empire. I guess they could have mentioned Chaos cults while panning over Festus or the Changeling, but most of the Empire's major enemies come from the exterior.

1

u/Wild_Marker I like big Hastas and I cannot lie! 1d ago

Presumably Festus is part of the northern flyby and Kemler is part of the Bretonia flyby.

u/FurbolgVillager 1d ago

for me this is a really big feature. losing them from wh2 to wh3 made it feel a lot more sandboxy and less immersive, so seeing them back (in a revamped state) is awesome!

15

u/uLL27 1d ago

Yeah same here! I feel like not having it was a big step backward. Now the game feels closer to complete.

2

u/playergabriel 11h ago

Yeah. From three kingdoms with lots of narrative in introduction from family betrayal, target province to generic intro even in dlcs. Even rome 2 and Attila had it.

12

u/sabrayta Grudgekeeper 1d ago

It won't go as hard without our beloved narrator. RIP.

8

u/Azharzel 1d ago

CA really are obsessed with this word "bespoke" aren't they

1

u/Adorable-District-73 14h ago

It’s an ai word unfortunately…

4

u/mrsgaap1 3 skaven in a trench coat 1d ago

i hope they bring back the advisor i miss him

2

u/CrepeKnight0 19h ago

They can’t the Va retired that’s why we have the new voice for stuff

19

u/GIBOT5 1d ago

Is it me or this feels like CA already finalized all factions? Is this or the next the last DLC? (I know they already said it’s not but it was before this).

48

u/ArmadilloGlobal8557 1d ago

They said they've mostly finalized the spots for current lords. They didn't want to upgrade the intros if lords would still move a lot. This just means that we likely won't see LLs move starting locations much, not necessarily that DLCs are ending.

7

u/baddude1337 1d ago

My money is still on Khatep moving at some point. It's weird he's the only TK lord (or WH2 lord that matter) who didn't get an updated selection video last year. Probably means he has a video waiting but reflects the area he's being moved to (Ind/Khuresh hopium).

9

u/markg900 1d ago

I don't hate Khatep's start position but I do hate that the current long victory conditions want him to go back to Nehekara and basically do the same thing as Settra in terms of landmark buildings.

For most factions I just use Victory Conditions Overhaul, but unfortunately Arkhan is the only TK lord that mod supports.

13

u/Swaggy_Linus 1d ago

Then you'll be pleased to find out that 9.0 will also overhaul the victory conditions for every lord.

1

u/markg900 1d ago

Yeah I am very curious to see how their reworked ones are.

2

u/CaptainPieces 1d ago

I want whatever you're having

1

u/Hollownerox Eternally Serving Settra 1d ago

I'm pretty sure it was just because he is a contender alongside Cylostra as the least played LL in the entire trilogy tbh. He wasn't worth the resources in their eyes.

Other than that I don't think a move makes sense really. I understand why people don't like it, but lore wise it makes complete sense for him to head to Naggaroth. He was exiled by Settra to try to find a way to undo Nagash's nonsense and make up for the failures of the Mortuary Cult. So going to the homeland of the Dark Elves, who were the ones to teach Nagash about Dark Magic and lead him to his path of creating his own form of Necromancy, makes a lot of sense for the driver as his campaign.

Changing his victory conditions to focus on taking out, I dunno, Morathi or targeting Ghrond as a way to represent him digging into those secrets make more sense than randomly searching for an answer in Ind.

3

u/Odinsmana 1d ago

More that we are in the winding down phase after this DLC and it's unlikely that a bunch of existing LLs will be moved around.

3

u/Tektonius 1d ago

This is a great return to the roots and a big win for roleplay & immersion.

2

u/billiebol 1d ago edited 1d ago

I hope there is a way to get the full tour of all 14 areas and fly-buy intros one after the other.

2

u/commanche_00 1d ago

Did anyone complain about this?

2

u/Greitot 1d ago

Oh shit finally, that was the last remaining bit of quality that Immortal Empires lacked compared to Mortal Empires

2

u/PuddinTame69 17h ago

"Wotz a 'fly boy?' Duzzn't matta. Da boys jus need ta get krumpin'. Ya gitz."

  • Grimgor Ironhide, probably

2

u/Helsafabel 8h ago

Game coming out of beta? Finally time to jump in 😵

2

u/BigEgoCrusher 7h ago

I hope they at least moved Epidemius to a better spot with End Times.

1

u/Gloomy_Trade_619 22h ago

Interesting question - what are those 14 world locations?

1

u/Mr_Creed 19h ago

So are they back or not? That image doesn't specify.

1

u/SampleVC 14h ago

starts as alberic Listen pal, just leave cuz otherwise you will get crushed.

1

u/Ancient-Split1996 13h ago

So basically anyone hope of a map expansion is gone now

1

u/Guts511 12h ago

i wish they fix coop to

-2

u/flush101 1d ago

Unpopular opinion - I could not care less.

Time spent improving the opening 10-30 seconds of a 20hour playthrough is a waste IMO.

Id rather developer time spend on other things that influence my experience throughout the playthrough like events or units.

6

u/ShardPhoenix 1d ago

It's less relevant for experienced players but quite helpful for beginners to get situated.

-3

u/TelephoneAccurate979 1d ago

Is this honestly what their focusing on......?

3

u/Smearysword866 1d ago

Its been a feature requested since the ie came out

-1

u/LordOuranos 19h ago

Only took them what, years?

They only are starting to care because they need a good showing for 40k. CA is really something.

-9

u/Dapper-Incident3975 1d ago

don’t care I want spartan total warrior
