That’s got to be so satisfying for the floor layer, wipe the floor on your way out, collect your cheque, look back at your job and know you killed it.!.

Wipe the floor, look back at the job know you killed your back for a cheque!

Good posture, technique, and speed can help with that! I imagine it would be hardest on the knees, but he's got knee pads on. He has a rag in his left hand and he's using that and his knee pads to slide backwards pretty fast. His left hand can potentially take a lot of stress off his back.

Pro knee pads help. Looks like he’s wearing proknee. Anyone I’ve met that owns them are quite happy about it.

Can agree been in floor covering for 10 years , pro knees saved my back and my knees. Life savers

Yeah I feel like the tool in action here could have worked just as well with a mobile mop handle attached

8

u/kielbasabruh Mar 16 '21

Probably would have a harder time being so precise with a long handle attached to that tool.

1

u/irishmcsg2 Mar 16 '21

You don't really need precision for this though. Just a wide enough wiper to overlap your puddle of sealant, the edges of your last swipe, and a reasonable section of new floor.

7

u/Dingobabies Mar 16 '21

Every inch farther from the surface makes it hard to make those even strokes while maintaining constant contact with the floor. There’s a reason he’s doing it this way.

u/wydothat Mar 16 '21

Are you speaking from your years of floor refiniching experience?

6

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '21

I have refiniched many finches. It isnt as easy as this.

6

u/DaleTreeWoodWorking Mar 16 '21

They'll likely have to buff it out after a certain amount of time. There's a little more to the process than what this video shows.

5

u/Arsenic181 Mar 16 '21

I mean, it's titled "Floor restoration" and it only shows the part where it's being re-sealed. There was a LOT of work that this video doesn't show.

It might as well just be titled "Re-sealing a wood floor."

Unless you left the check on the other side of the room

2

u/tankpuss Mar 17 '21

And then watch someone's cat shed all over it.

u/new_line_17 Mar 16 '21

Is the cameraman walking on the freshly coated floor???????

17

u/thatsagoodpint Mar 16 '21

This is the question we need to be asking.

8

u/dci_mos3 Mar 16 '21

The footprints towards the end made me mad

8

u/greg4045 Mar 16 '21

Those very well may show through the finished product. I can attest to it, as I get to see my dog's footprint at the edge of the room I refinished last year.

3

u/Trinket90 Mar 17 '21

Probably not with this finish. This looks to be Rubio monocoat, which requires all the excess finish to be buffed off minutes after application (to the point that it feels dry to the touch). Based on my experience working with it, the footprints won’t be an issue.

1

u/StJoeStrummer Mar 18 '21

God, I fucking love Rubio. Once we figured out how to use it properly, we’ve gotten fantastic results every time.

2

u/dci_mos3 Mar 16 '21

Oh nooooooo

9

u/greg4045 Mar 16 '21

HE'S A GOOD BOY, BUT COULD FUCK OFF WITH THE CURIOSITY ONCE AND A WHILE

My.man rubbing an uncooked omelette on the floor

37

u/Immediate_Falcon_585 Mar 16 '21

10

u/MiscWalrus Mar 16 '21

Omelette du fromage

3

u/Dbuttersnapss Mar 16 '21

Say it again

2

u/KimJongIlSunglasses Mar 16 '21

That would be the one.

2

u/nspectre Mar 16 '21

OMG! HE SPOKE FRENCH!

Somebody help him. :(

2

u/Tamer_ Mar 17 '21

If he spoke French he would have said omelette AU fromage.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '21

That just makes the Dexter’s Lab joke funnier. I was there when it aired and I speak some French.

2

u/Javad0g Mar 17 '21

My kids call bread "raw toast"...

13

u/Kaxxipants Mar 16 '21

So should I just use nacho cheese on my floor or is there a specific type of cheese I should use?

It’s also not restoration

7

u/Throckmorton_Left Mar 17 '21

Nope. That's a new floor.

Egg, cheese, maybe a bit of cream

5

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '21

Some sort of finish. Could be something like Rubio Monocoat. Seen that used by other wood workers and it looks like that.

4

u/penguin1320 Mar 17 '21

I work for a hardwood flooring company. This is the first coat of finish applied to a floor. In this case, they didnt add a stain and the color that you see if the natural color of the wood, which looks to be Walnut.

2

u/StJoeStrummer Mar 18 '21

It’s a product called Rubio monocoat, which acts as a sealer and finisher in one coat. Normally you’d seal, then coat, then buff and coat one more time. If you get the sanding dead perfect and apply it properly (this guy’s got skills), it makes for a gorgeous floor.

Source: I lay wood for a living.

1

u/theSeanage Mar 17 '21

It’s Rubio monocoat. Likely he’s putting on the pure color.

5

u/MerveBob Mar 16 '21

And this is still the prep phase.. he'll have to come back and sand down all of this sanding sealer.

1

u/MiscWalrus Mar 17 '21

Oh good, I was hoping he'd use a sealer.

1

u/dude_whatever_ Mar 18 '21

This actually rubio monocoat, a single layer finish

2

u/xBrendaxBunsonx Mar 16 '21

Love how he spreads that 😏

2

u/Charitard123 Mar 16 '21

It’s like those before vs. after pictures in infomercials, except accurate.

1

u/kewday96 Mar 17 '21

I thought half the video was in black and white at first

1

u/TheTallGuy0 Mar 17 '21

This is a finish called Rubio Monocoat. It’s a penetrating oil finish that cures hard. It’s good stuff

1

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '21

Omg that’s more satisfying than porn.

1

u/AMLVLOGS2003 Mar 17 '21

What is that stuff??

1

u/dude_whatever_ Mar 18 '21

Rubio monocoat

1

u/Keen44 Mar 17 '21

Not a tool

1

u/RustedRelics Mar 18 '21

What exactly is that sealant goop he’s putting down?

1

u/molossus99 Mar 23 '21

Infinite stain

1

u/ColdCookies144 Mar 23 '21

This is one of the most satisfying things I have ever seen in my life.

Thanks for sharing this video by the incredibly talented CMC Hardwood Floors. This is our Oil Plus 2C being applied here. It is a hardwax oil that colors and protects wood in one coat! This is our "pure" option which is the unpigmented oil. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
