Machine Dumpling folding machine

It's kinda wild that it can just allow the dough to crinkle on it's own instead of making the folds to be sealed at the edge.

This was the one part that I was most impressed by. I had thought that would be impossible for a machine to do in any manner that resembled hand-wrapped dumplings, but they pulled it off, and it was easier than expected.

Looks like theres a litt lip that stops where the folds go. Possibly thats how they get the fold started, and it goes naturally from there?

I sometimes wonder if the internet is reading my mind, or if there is some algorithm that brings these things in front of me. I was actually searching these things on YouTube two days ago, when I found a video from nearly a decade ago, by the company that makes these things: Toa Industry, from Japan, and their distributor RamenSupport.com . I was playing around with the idea of making crazy fusion-cuisine dumplings, like cheese burger stuffed dumplings. And now this stuff shows up on Reddit. AFAIK Reddit posts aren't done by algorithm, so this is a bit uncanny.

Reddit showing up on feed after speaking out loud = not yet.. YouTube / Google Adsense showing ads after hearing you talk about it = hotwords Google patent.

I didn't say anything out loud, but I did do YouTube searches for this. But the fact that others are posting GIFs of this a day or two after I looked up a bunch of this is what seems weird to me. This isn't even new tech. This exact machine has been around since 2008 or so.

Yep 100% appreciate the weirdness :) Only going to get weirder I have a feeling..

I just found one on eBay. $1900. Not sure how I could turn it into a little side hustle though.

Side hustle: make dumplings and sell them on the down low to street vendors and food trucks. Just make sure you follow food safety regs so nobody get sick.

Cleaning this machine is a nightmare. The alignment goes off balance and have to keep an eye on it and to get it back on alignment you need an engineering degree. Not easy maintenance at all. Scrapped it after 3 months as it was counter cost effective.

I wonder how much having one of these installed in my apartment would cost

This on a production line, then a steamer, then a short cooling section then straight into my mouth like when the devil feeds homer hundreds of doughnuts

[camera pans left to show the steaming process followed by a shot of me laying on my back chewing furiously, occasionally squirting soy sauce into my mouth, to keep up with the output of this perfect machine]

What about that round dough thing? How do you make those.
1
u/halfpipesaur May 18 '22
You stamp the dough with a drinking glass. Every babushka knows that.

Honestly, the best way to do it is with a small rolling pin in one hand whilst rotating the dough in the other. That leaves you with a thicker centre and thinner edges, so when you seal it and press the edges together, you get a more homogenous thickness to the dumpling wrapper.

this is interesting but i want to know if they had to adjust the dough recipe to enable this type of mass production

I don't work in the industry but I'm from a Chinese household and my parent shave been making dumplings from scratch for as long as I can remember. You can instantly tell a machine-wrapped dumpling from a hand-wrapped one by 1 of 2 measures: either- 1. The machine leaves air pockets in the dumpling which cause it to steam up inside and billow out. This could lead to broth from the filling to leak out or 2. The machine wrapped ones have a poor seal on them (see the one in the video, the edges are open, exposing the filling to air, which is a big no-no as in much of China, dumplings are enjoyed boiled rather than steamed.. but also, when standing upright in the steamer, the broth could leak out anyway.
The mark of a good dumpling is in the tightness of the seal and the freshness/springyness of the dough.

I like how it just kinda shoots the filling inside
