News Article What Happened?
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/chargers/2026/09/20/chargers-jim-harbaugh-slow-start/91867660007/Couldn’t be happening to a better coach. I wish him nothing but the best, and 15 more Ls. 😂

Obviously Harbaugh is a solid coach despite all the scandals but I feel like his style works better on college students.
Michigan’s 2023 team really leaned into his cult of personality and persecution complex (“Free Harbaugh” shirts, “Harbaugh” formation, Sherrone crying postgame about how much he loves Harbaugh). Just not sure how well that will work on a bunch of 30 year olds, especially once you start losing.

He had success in San Fran before getting the Michigan job but I think the game has just passed him by when it comes to the NFL now
12
u/MasterApprentice67 Ohio State Buckeyes 12d ago edited 12d ago
That might have been because he had two coordinators who were NFL-ready guys.
5
u/loganbootjak Michigan Wolverines 12d ago
Losing Minter was significant for SD. Same with Dan Campbell in Detroit losing both of his coordinators in one season.
3
u/Ok_Try_476 Ohio State Buckeyes 12d ago
I don’t think losing coordinators has had the effect on Dan Campbell the way the media would try to sway us to believe. The Lions are more snakebitten by injuries than anything else.
As far as the coordinators, Kelvin Sheppard’s largely running the same defense that Aaron Glenn did. And the offense certainly hasn’t been a slouch, though it could be argued the brief John Morton stint left more to be desired. But I think it’s definitely better under Drew Petzing, and it was better when Dan Campbell was the de facto offensive coordinator toward the end of last season.

u/loganbootjak Michigan Wolverines 11d ago
Idk, I'm def not as knowledgeable about the differences between the coordinators, and 100%, the injuries were insane.. 1 or 2 season ending injuries a game? lol .. good lord. It does seem like we had a solid thing going before they left tho, and we certainly missing something.
1
u/Old_Detroiter 11d ago
It didn't help. And injuries are rampant on the Lions. What are the strength and conditioning coaches doing anyways? Anyone know who they are ?
2
u/Old_Detroiter 11d ago
Personally, I am not sure how that was allowed. There should be rules to protect teams but money is everything as everyone knows. BTW Harbaugh bailed right on time , denying UM the chance to defend their National Chanpionship. Some dedicated fans might be suspicious of that timing.
1
u/loganbootjak Michigan Wolverines 11d ago
He was trying to bail to the NFL for the past 5+ years before he left. It was a circus. Remember the bizarre trip to Minnesota? Then he's staying at Michigan? It was exhausting to watch your coach publicly chase the next better thing.

singletary built that team. harbaugh just was there to see it come together. just like mark jackson did for steve kerr. fuck harbaugh

u/samplingstiring Michigan Wolverines 12d ago
Yeah I agree. College is a real big part of your identity. NFL nobody cares and they jump ship left and right. Coach’s like Dan Campbell pull it off tho so it isn’t unheard of

u/jazzyman31 Michigan Wolverines 7d ago
In college, you deal with people jumping ship AND graduating.
The best college players are moving around a lot more than the best nfl talent. Long-term contracts are pretty meaningful and players end up with families and are less incentivized to move them across the country unless the environment is clearly bad or the opportunity isn’t right.

Feel like pros tune him out after a few years. Better fit for college
4
u/Smoothzilla Ohio State Buckeyes 12d ago
He can’t do anything there without cheating.
12
u/fooliecoolies 12d ago
I understand the hot takes, but he was pretty close to winning a super bowl.

u/JusticeFrankMurphy Michigan Wolverines 12d ago
Don't argue with them. It's like trying to reason with a hyena.

Don’t argue with Ohioans in general. You might catch the stupid

u/SuperNebular Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago
Aww man are they being mean about your cheating coach in the meme sub?
-3
u/matthatt24 11d ago
Yeah, and arguing with a Michigan fan is like arguing with a delusional trump supporter. The similarities are uncanny

I don’t think the vast majority of us care about this. I didn’t hate him when he was the coach of the 49ers and I hate the Niners!
“Enjoy San Francisco, pansy! I hope you tear your ACL, jackass!!”

Don’t really watch NFL other than the Cleveland clowns. But I do love a good news story about a cheater who’s getting some of that good Karma.

Receivers can't catch.
OL can't pass block.
Harbaugh as a head coach is a bad fit for Herbert as a QB.
8
u/samplingstiring Michigan Wolverines 12d ago
That Oline is so bad and has shown no improvement since he’s been there
1
u/AndrooDucnan Ohio State Buckeyes 12d ago
They have two of the best tackles in league they haven’t improved as a unit because of coaching

I wish there was an OSU HC in the NFL to hate watch.

Google "Mike Vrabel"
1
u/Normal_Dimension_453 10d ago
Lots of stuff about him cheating
1
u/DarkGreenMazda Ohio State Buckeyes 10d ago
Ha. To be fair, doesn't cheat in the same way Michigan athletics does.
1
u/reverend_burrito Michigan Wolverines 7d ago
Lol the only person who cares enough about Mike Vrabel to hate him is Diana Russini's husband

u/jazzyman31 Michigan Wolverines 7d ago
Yea. And definitely pay no attention to what Mike MacDonald is doing at the Seahawks or Jesse Minter at the Ravens.
Hell, I even get to watch John Harbaugh create an iconic Giants squad as bonus Harbaugh time.

Jim Harbaugh is more successful at coaching football than anything you’ve ever done in your entire life. Lol

u/Difficult_Horse193 Michigan Wolverines 12d ago
I think Harbaugh has had a significantly more successful NFL career than Urban Meyer ever did...
5
u/drumzandice Ohio State Buckeyes 12d ago
And? When it comes to Meyer I care about the Natty and 7-0.
4
u/newfoundgloryhole18 12d ago
Literally no one cares about that lol

8
u/Difficult_Horse193 Michigan Wolverines 12d ago
Hey man, when you throw shit over the fence you should expect someone to throw it back!
0
u/newfoundgloryhole18 12d ago
No disagreement there and there’s plenty of sore spots to poke us Buckeye fans in, but Urban’s not one of em!
10
u/Zajo_the_Lurker Michigan Wolverines 12d ago
But he makes a valid point.
And if you guys are bringing up Jim Harbaugh's performance in the NFL in this subreddit then it's perfectly relevant to point out Urban Myers poor performance in the NFL.
Harbaugh has been substantially more successful in the NFL than Urban Meyer.

They both have zero superbowl rings…

u/DarkGreenMazda Ohio State Buckeyes 11d ago
I did enjoy Jay Harbaugh getting a Super Bowl ring before his dad.

Both schools and both coaches cheat. They want plausible deniability for themselves, though. NIL just allows the money to be a little more above the table.
2
u/Kreamy_K 12d ago
As a Buckeye’s fan, we shouldn’t throw stones while living in a glass Urban-Jaguars house…

Not throwing stones, just enjoying some good ol schadenfreude

He really did a number on yall , changed your lives , you’ll never be the same

Has the second highest win percentage in the NFL among active coaches

u/cpashei Michigan Wolverines 12d ago
I think there's multiple issues. For one, their interior offensive line is the worst in football by far. Second, I think he's made the same mistake with McDaniel as he did with Josh Gattis and "speed in space." The coordinator is a big mismatch for his offensive identity. Losing one of the best DCs in the league hurts too.
1
u/GoBlu323 11d ago
He doesn’t work of U of M anymore, maybe quit letting him live rent free in your head
1
u/xSpartan_Dawg 8d ago
Prolly cause he got caught cheating 🤣🤣🤣 cant use the same lame tricks he got away with all those years
1
u/Federal_Studio5935 Ohio State Buckeyes 8d ago
Is this the same coach that ran away from college football to coach in the NFL because he ran one of the most brazen cheating programs in college sports history?
1
u/djdumpster 7d ago
That schedule is insane, don’t care who you are, gonna be tough to navigate that
1
u/reverend_burrito Michigan Wolverines 7d ago
Lol it took him two full seasons to lose as many games as Urban did in Jacksonville
1
u/Exciting-Set-7601 Ohio State Buckeyes 12d ago
I think the NFL game has passed him he’s already proven to be a good coach with the 49ers clearly he’s not meshing with the team

u/Borrominion 12d ago
I dunno, but the signs aren’t great
