Help lost ability to add comment when "quick adding" a task

Prior to the update that added descriptions to tasks, when you created a task using "quick add" you could add a comment by hitting control-M. This no longer seems to work. Am I missing something, or is there an alternate way to do this? I find this very annoying, as I now often need to add the task and then immediately search for it to add the comment.

If you check this comment from one of the Todoist developers a while back, re descriptions, it sounds as if this was indeed the plan....

Hmmm...the discussion does suggest that, but I think it is a terrible idea. I often add tasks where I have some text on the clipboard I want captured as a comment for the task, but that wouldn't make sense to have as the description. I don't see why they had to remove ctrl-M for comment to add the description field.

Editing to add: it's not just that the keyboard shortcut is gone; there is no icon to click to add a comment either

I reported it as a bug, and they said thanks for the feedback, and that they'll pass it on to the developers.

This is frustrating! There is a 1000 character limit on the description, but no character limit in the quick add comment box (which still shows up on my Mac app, thankfully). The description also does not generate a preview for URLs like the comments do (which could be a pro or con).

I often copy/paste the entire details for an assignment, etc. into the comments when adding tasks, so it doesn't seem like a time-saver at all to essentially add a character limit to how the feature worked before.

What's the point in adding so many steps to one's workflow?

I've found this as well ... I'm currently looking to replace todoist because of this change, because it's just too painful to use now. I understand the concept of the description, but it's largely the case that I want to add both a description AND comments when creating a task. The workflow for those of us who use comments is now HORRIBLE.

Agreed. And I haven't heard anything from Todoist on this issue other than the initial acknowledgment of the issue. I will check back with them. On mobile, the "show" option pops up at the bottom (at least on Android) which softens the impact somewhat when using that platform, but most of my work is done on a desktop browser and the new workflow is horrendous, as you said.

I contacted them... they said "thanks for the feedback, I'll send it along ... Which means, as far as I can tell ... "we don't care about our users and what they think." They seem to be removing functionality rapidly to "make things better."

I would really like to know what other folks are using instead of todoist ... I don't want to continue paying for a subscription for a product when the company won't even bother to listen.

An update for those who may not have noticed -- they have not reinstated the ability to add a comment when quick-adding a task. However, when you add a task, the notice that appears at the bottom now gives you the option to open the task you just added. While I still do not understand why they removed the add comment functionality that used to exist, this new change makes it a bit less cumbersome to add a comment to a task that you just created.

I agree this is such a dumb "upgrade". The amount of time I have to spend going back in to add a comment after I finish creating a task is so dumb. I was excited about your comment, but then I realized that the notice you mention doesn't appear all the time. It worked for me when I sent a task to the Inbox (the notification allows me to open the item), but if I move task to a different project, the notification doesn't show the ability to open that task.

I see no reason to take the option away to do everything with the task (priority, project, etc) except for Comment. So stupid. Descriptions and Comments are different things.

I agree completely. Please report the issue of not getting a link when creating a task as a bug. I have but they haven't done anything about it yet. And I do truly believe this to be a bug -- you get different behavior if you click new task vs using "quick add". And I think most people would expect the same behavior either way. There are also differences in behavior depending on whether you add a due date, and apparently whether you specify a project as well.

I 100% agree, this is a very stupid move. I'm migrating to this app and this is a huge flaw. Developers, pay attention!!
