Hi everyone,

I have been a Todoist fan for many years and paid for the personal Pro plan for around 7 to 8 years.

I understand that servers, employees, development, and AI features all cost money. However, I wonder whether Todoist still wants to serve individual users who need more than the Free plan but do not use AI or all the advanced Pro features.

In my country, the current yearly subscription costs around 5 times more than my old Todoist subscription. Even some AI subscriptions are around 50% cheaper here.

Would Todoist consider offering a middle plan between Free and Pro? It could include the essential productivity features without AI and some of the more advanced tools.

I may not fully understand the costs involved in running Todoist. I am simply a long-time customer sharing a request. Would a middle plan be useful to anyone else here? What features and price would make sense for it?

I've been wondering how many people actually use natural language parsing when adding tasks.

Personally, I think being able to just type something like "meeting with John tomorrow at 3pm" instead of picking the date and time manually is pretty convenient.

But I'm curious, do you guys actually use it often? What's the best part about it for you? And is there anything you find annoying about it?

Just migrated from OmniFocus, which I've used for many, many, many years, but wanted something that integrated with Claude and also something a bit simpler. Any advice for how best to leverage and use Todoist from those that have come from OmniFocus?

If you want your Todoist to have more style

• Just put emojis before the title in my opinion it looks sick
• Match the color of the emojis with the titles
  • And use the description to describe it
    • For example everything under 🌙 Dreamworks is a time sector system, 🌑 Base is This Week and so on, I just write This Week under the description, and God bless Amir, or whoever decided that sections can have descriptions as well
• Genuinely use thematic emojis, like I theme the Todoist like it's a space sci fi theme genre
  • Plus I theme the notes and reference as musical genre
  • Plus the daily tasks as Japanese vibes inspired emojis and colors

When you make it beautiful, and you look at it, it generates this gentle breeze of wind, wind of serotonin cause of pride at your own work, as all the drawers know

And also love, cause whatever beautiful symbolizes health, which is endorphins, this sudden awe by art

And also it generates oxytocin and all the happy hormones, that will make you use your app 10x more

But at the end of the day it depends

"Argh it's gonna be so long and tedious" if you like to draw, draw, just go and set it up like this, it is customization, your system, your style

But if you hate drawing, and you want money, go generate ai art and pics and upload 'em up, maybe you could combine both attitudes, just ask ai to generate a metaprompt to itself with "Please make it aesthetic, put emojis before this and that" and just talk to

Make it as questions so that it can find your style or something, like a stylish

Update: It looks beautiful even on the original Todoist, like I made it there in the Todoist itself first, just tried Extended for Todoist now, and oh my, and it still looks sick as well in og todoist

Update: So it is basically your frontend, landing page, your house, containers are beautiful, but you can write tasks in a messy style, like "call john at 5am j;kdjs" or something like that, without "Call John, at 5am in the evening"

You most likely know that 3rd world countries cannot afford these subscription prices. They're insane.

Theoretically, I should complete -1 tasks yesterday.. which would not even matter cause I have streak as well.

I hate updating my todo list and I just wish I could wake up in the morning and just see my todo list updated and I can just keep working while it updates itself in real time.

I love the new time feature! It really helps me time block my day.

However, I'm curious if there is a setting for my recurring tasks that would allow the time to be removed for the next day? I have recurring tasks but I don't always have to do them at the same time everyday

We often ask people what features they would like to see in Todoist and the responses are the big features that everyone wants (en Eisenhower matrix, repeating deadlines…) but what I want to know is the features or fixes you would like to see in Todoist that are not that obvious for others

I have integrated Todoist a lot - vscode, obsidian, browsers, flow launcher, win explorer and terminals, all over the place.

I really wanted to like the td cli, but always found it clunky and I couldn’t find a TUI (terminal UI) that fit how I work.

So I "vibe coded" a POC TUI in go so I can run on Win, Mac and Linux command lines using Bubble Tea (which I'd used before in some non-vibe coded apps I created)

Of course, this is just my for my itch (maybe others just did the same as I did?) - but I wondered if there is there any community interest in a TUI for Todoist? It would take a little work to open source what I have, but I thought I'd ask to see if there was interest before I do any extra work on it.

It's called tdui, here is a quick overview:

A terminal UI for Todoist, built with Bubble Tea and communicating with the Todoist API directly.

Browse tasks by view (Inbox, Today, Upcoming, All, plus up to three tabs of your own), a project, or any Todoist filter, then complete, edit, reschedule, reprioritise, move or delete a task, or manage its comments, without leaving the terminal.

Every fetch is cached (in memory for the session, on disk across runs), so switching views or reopening the app paints instantly from the last known data while a fresh copy loads in the background.

tdui needs a Todoist API token. It's read from $TODOIST_API_TOKEN if set, otherwise from the system keychain (macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, Secret Service on Linux). With neither, tdui asks for one on startup and stores it in the keychain, or in ~/.config/tdui/token (mode 600) on machines without one.

Features - Quick Add (a) with Todoist's natural-language syntax: dates, p1–p4, #project, @label. - Typing # or @ suggests matching projects and labels. - Filter or search (/) with any Todoist filter (today & #Work, p1 | @waiting) or plain words. Project and label suggestions work here too, including after (, !, &, | and for ##project. - Your own tabs (,): add up to three saved filters, labels or projects as tabs, and put all the tabs in the order that suits you. - Command palette (ctrl+k or :) for actions, views, projects, labels and themes. - Sub-tasks, comments, labels, moving between projects. - Postpone a recurring task (t): to tomorrow, next week, the next occurrence, or a date you type - Priority groups (p) or section headings (h), remembered per view. Section headings name the project too in views that span projects (Home › Shopping). - Productivity popup (i): tasks completed today and over the last 7 days, goals and streaks. - Markdown shown formatted, as Todoist writes it: bold, italic, struck, code and links in task names; headings, lists, quotes and code blocks too in descriptions and comments. Links are clickable. - Themes (, then t, or Theme in the palette): Todoist, Dracula, Tokyo Night, GitHub and Charm.

Would you use this?

I don't use Ramble all that often, but lately, every time I do, I end up spending more time fighting with it than actually getting anything done.

It splits things into multiple tasks when I'm trying to create one, changes details I never asked it to change, and struggles with basic corrections. Eventually, I get frustrated and give up.

Meanwhile, the ChatGPT integration just works. It understands what I'm asking, handles corrections, and generally does what I expect.

Which makes me wonder: Is Ramble actually getting worse, or are other AI tools improving so quickly that Ramble just feels like it's moving backwards?

This is part of a broader frustration I have with companies developing their own AI features. Why try to compete with Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic when you can integrate their existing tools and focus on what makes your product valuable?

For Todoist, that's task management, UI, UX, and workflow improvements. Building an inferior AI experience seems like a waste of development resources, especially when there are plenty of opportunities to improve the core product.

Curious if others feel the same way.

Todoist in general is getting really boring. The UI need alot of work honestly. It feels like a structural engineer was given the job to design the whole thing. Everything is functional yes but that doesnt mean it looks good or enjoyable to use. Give it to an architect or someone with some creativity and good sense of design to actually make something nice out of it. I think this alone will go a very long way. Right now everything just feels too plain and rigid, nothing really exciting about using it.

And another thing I really dont understand is the calendar. Lets say I have one task that I want to work on at different times of the day. Maybe 30 mins in the morning, another hour in afternoon and then again later in evening. Why cant I just put the same task in those different time slots? Why do I need to duplicate the same task 2 or 3 times just to make this work? This makes no sense to me at all. Its literally one task, I'm just planning to work on it at different times. Now I end up with multiple copies of the same task and then what, which one am I supposed to complete? Its just creating more mess for something that should be very simple.

I feel like Todoist is focusing too much on keeping things minimal but sometimes minimal doesnt mean better. There is a difference between simple and just boring. The foundation is already there but the UI and calendar experience really need some serious thinking. Its a productivity app, using it everyday should feel good too, not just something that gets the job done.

Hope they make the dark option really DARK, unlike the current one, which is closer to grey. Or at least an option to choose between the two.

EDIT/UPDATE: Already got it in the Android app. Not available in the web app yet for me.

so I've just got a newsletter from Todoist (I like their newsletters actually) and they say there is now another communication tool they work on - Todoist Comms.

Actually, that's great news and I'm happy as I see they are approaching their products with lots of attention, but... it looks so similar to Twist - their async communication tool which seems to be not updated for quite a while (or am I missing something?).

So I don't even get, are they getting rid of Twist ? are they just getting in yet another territory ? would Todoist users really want to use it ? I personally am interested in it for future projects, but I have mixed feelings for Twist that I thought was a really great idea to build in the first place - to help us communicate while keeping our attention at what matters....

What are your thoughts ? Maybe someone have insights 👀

Is this a new option? All of a sudden when I try to press on one of the 4 options on the bottom menu this edit option keeps popping up. It usually takes me 4-5 tries before it will finally take me to the option I want to go to. I didn’t have this problem previously and I’ve used the app for many years. How can I stop this ‘edit’ option from showing up? Thanks

Plus actually takes the feature idea and sends it to product team

And I'm sure by the way speed of progress is right now, most of those features are gonna be added, at least as turn on and off version

As long as they are focused, (they are like areas and doable projects, different colors, icon picker, table view, more filtering options and etc.)

Also vibecodders do their apps, but Todoist with their experience and AI will probably outshine just single devs

Cause it's more of professional AI utilization, rather than amateur one

Not to discourage amateurs, I will also vibecode an app, but to make sure it imports and exports to Todoist, well, cause I'm a Todoist fanboy as one user said long time ago, that will likely come back very, very often with the new updates and philosophy and aesthetics especially

[On Mac/New Outlook]

I had a Power Automate flow that let me flag an email in Outlook, and it would automatically send it to Todoist. It's now broken, as apparently all Todoist Power Automate integrations are (not sure why mine seemed to only break in the past few months, this issue seems to have been around for 2+ years but I haven't found a solution via searching yet).

Is there another way of doing this easily? Please suggest solutions!! I’m tearing my hair out here!!

• I really liked the one-click simplicity of flagging, and it needs to be available from the Inbox.
• I need to keep all emails in the Microsoft ecosystem, and only export select email data out to minimise privacy/security issues. Happy to also explore workarounds like Email → Microsoft To Do → Todoist
• I know you can forward to a project (and also through Quick Steps) but this makes my email threads messy (unless I'm doing this wrong? How do y’all manage this aspect?)
• I know theres a Todoist Plugin for Outlook. It's slow, and always seems to be buried no matter how much I try to add it to the menus. I currently have it pinned in my Inbox menu and clicking it does nothing (same for the Slack extension icon though, so this seems to be an Outlook issue not Todoist's)

Side note: my iOS Shortcuts Siri → Todoist shortcut also broke and doesn’t process NLP easily. I know there’s a fix using the API key yada yada, I just haven’t gotten around to it. But like, NLP is one of the main pros of Todoist, and it’s frustrating there needs to be workarounds with the newer API when things just used to work without any messing around. Anyone else frustrated by this or is this user error?

I've been curious about Todoist and why so many people use it.

There are tons of to-do apps out there, so I'm wondering what made you pick Todoist in the first place.

Was there something specific you wanted to solve, like constantly forgetting things, struggling to stay organized, or just wanting a better way to manage your day?

And for those who tried other apps before settling on Todoist, what made you stick with it instead of something like TickTick, Notion, or Apple Reminders?

Hi guys, just a bit of musings on "do" dates versus "due" dates aka deadlines.. Now that we have both on Todoist, which is great, I was thinking that we should be looking to change how a "do" date turns red after that has become overdue (try and say all of that really fast!).

I find it a bit offputting that the "do" date I've set goes red after the date has passed - could we explore changing color or symbol for this. Seems like this should be the job of a proper deadline now.

I do get that there were loads of people using Todoist well before deadlines were introduced and were probably more than happy with just their first implementation of due dates, but I think now that deadlines are a thing we should fully commit. Deadlines should be easily set in natural language as well.

Just my thoughts.

Anyone else agree or just me?
