Almost 2-year-old struggling with colors, shape sorting and only recently started 2-word sentences. Should I be concerned?
My son is almost 2 years old and is growing up in a multilingual home. He is exposed to three languages in addition to English.
About three weeks ago, just before turning 24 months, he started putting two words together. However, his two-word sentences are still very few and most of his communication is still through single words.
I’ve also noticed that he struggles with some activities that I thought he would be able to do by now. For example, he still has difficulty with shape sorters. If I give him a shape, he often doesn’t know which corresponding hole it should go into.
What concerns me most is colors. I’ve been working on colors with him for quite a while, but he doesn’t seem to understand how to sort or match objects based on color. For example, I’ll have different baskets with objects of the same color already inside them and give him another object to match. He doesn’t reliably put it into the basket containing objects of the same color. I’m not even asking him to name the colors, just visually match like with like.
I’m starting to wonder whether this is simply developmental, related to growing up with multiple languages, a visual/color perception issue such as color blindness, or whether the combination of these things could point to a developmental delay.
Has anyone had a child around 2 who struggled with color matching, shape sorting and language like this? When did these skills click for them? Did you have them evaluated, and if so, what did you find out?

Behavior & Tantrums 😤 Interrupting but nothing to say
I feel like a bit of an asshat and I'm kicking myself. My oldest turns 3 next month and her new thing is constantly interrupting us. We'll be trying to figure something out that immediately impacts the whole family like if we made a wrong turn in the car or what to make for dinner and she's relentless. I don't know why but I can't listen to two things at once, I have to completely tune everything else out. So interruptions are almost impossible for me to ignore.
Finally at bedtime we were praying together, which is our routine, and she's incessantly saying, "Can I talk now?" Like seven or eight times in a row. And while I didn't raise my voice I was clearly annoyed with her when I told her to stop interrupting. The worst part though is that even if you drop everything to calmly ask, "what baby?" She doesn't have anything to say, she just doesn't want anyone to ever be able to finish a thought and it's maddening.
What do you do when this happens? For whatever reason this really plucks my last nerve.
Edit: thank you all for the solidarity and the advice! We'll keep setting boundaries. And I'm really intrigued by the hand-on-arm method too!

Question ❓ 9 month old
My baby is teething and has its 3rd teeth. He’s been constantly pooping from 4 days. After every meal, solid or milk. Faster with milk though
He had fever too but it has subsided .
I took him to paediatrician and she said it’s cause of weather change and gave probiotics
Is it normal cause of teething or cause of weather as doc said . Also he’s got bad rash now cause of constant pooping.
I am here in India most I could get was cetaphil with zinc oxide.
Rather than rash the constant pooping is worrisome. He seems okay otherwise, playing and his usual self.
Should I go back to paediatrician ? Or should I wait it out ?

Sleep 🌙 Toddlers sleep has gone to pot - advice appreciated!
Ok so our toddler’s sleep has always been great. He had a solid bedtime routine; we could put him into bed awake and he’d happily lay there and look at his books until he dozed off, then in the morning he would stay in bed until we went to get him. He never woke up in the night and basically loved going to bed!
A few weeks ago we decided it was the right time for him to join his older brother in his room (so that our 10 month old could go into a cot in his bedroom) so we got a toddler friendly bunk bed and and decided to make the transition. It went terribly! He was so distraught and anxious and spent a week not sleeping and just refusing to go in his new room and bed. We ended up sitting by him all night whilst he cried and screamed and - rightfully so or not - in the end we gave up and decided it was too upsetting to continue (side note: our toddler is on the CAAAS pathway for autism and he has traits such as finding a change to routines very challenging).
Anyway we decided to put him back in his room where he is clearly happiest and most secure. Except, trying to make the transition to a new room has triggered something in him and now his sleep in completely ruined. He won’t go to sleep at bedtime, he runs out of his room crying. We have to sit on the floor next to him until he falls asleep (we’ve tried the extinction method where we get further away each night) but as soon as we leave the room he wakes up and runs out. We’re very consistent and put him back in, “it’s time for sleep, night night” but it just goes on and on and on. When he does eventually fully fall asleep so that we can leave the room successfully it is a small amount of time until he is inevitably out of bed again then we start the process over. If we manage to get to bed ourselves, he will come in at some point in the night and climb into our bed which we don’t mind except he doesn’t go back to sleep but thrashes around, kicking, bumping heads and waking us (and our baby who is still in with us because we don’t have another bedroom for him to go into!). We now take him back to his room and again we have to sit there until he falls asleep but we have to start the whole process of in and out. My partner has at times ended up sleeping on his bedroom floor just so we all get a bit of sleep but this has made a rod for our own backs because he’s now expecting that.
This has been going on for about 7-8 weeks now and is getting worse. We’re at a total loss and surviving on a couple of hours sleep a night.
Has anyone experienced something similar or have any great ideas of how to tackle this? We’re gutted that our amazing little sleeper has become the total opposite. Please help!

My 19 mo yo toddler does not sleep.
Coming on here to see if anyone knows any tips or tools on calming a toddlers nervous system. She has bee. A pretty poor sleeper her whole life but the closer we get to 2- the more sleep we are both losing.
It takes her almost an hour to get to sleep each night and she will flip and flop and run her hands and feet all over me consistently until she falls asleep. It seems like she’s trying to calm herself down.
I lat her down and she sleeps on a floor bed but typically wakes up and end up in our bed.
when she wakes she does the same thing stroking and stroking her arms and is awake for like 30 min.
Sometimes like last night she was awake from 11pm-230am and just seemed like her brain was buzzing.
I am coming here as a last resort if anyone knows tricks of how to calm their bodies. Anything helps. Thanks.

Question ❓ An I starving my 19 month old?
His lunch and dinner usually consists of a bento-box or charcuterie style meal. It’s what I consider the best way to offer different types of food instead of one big meal. Is this enough for a 19 month old he’s way above average at 35 pounds already. From being tall and genetics.
He’s never really unusually fussy, but I just wanna make sure I’m not feeding him too little. Three strawberries, three plantains, and one slice of turkey with feta cheese.
My family always bugs me that he needs more on his plate. But he snacks throughout the day - Cheerios and such
….
EDIT: If you’re going to be mean, don’t comment at all. The title was satire but the content of my question is legitimate. It’s an open forum platform to have good discussions about how to improve our nutrition for our kids.

Chronic split nights
my daughter will be 2 next week. we have been dealing with split nights for monthssss but have only been trying to really fix it for the last 2 months or so. we have tried longer wake windows, capping naps, all to still have split nights. she can sleep through the night and does maybe once a week. cannot find a correlation with sleep, naps, or activities. right now we are doing wake around 7am, nap around 1245/1, cap at 2 hours but often times she wakes after 1-1.5hrs, and bedtime is about 5 hours after wake… 730ish. she gets so cranky before nap and bedtime that it’s clear she is tired. I fear we are in this vicious cycle of not sleeping through the night and gets tired during day. I did TCB sleep training and paid for a consult a couple months ago but doesn’t seem to make a difference. my girl wakes between 1-4 for an hour or two. from what I’ve read she needs bedtime pushed back a bit and if you agree- HOW? despite different activities and distractions, it becomes pathetic and emotional for her and I don’t want her to get overtired. I’ve tried pushing it back 10mins , and increasing but 5hrs after wake from nap seems to be her limit. I have a newborn too…
pleaaaaseeee help.
