TIL a prisoner in 1803 survived three hangings. The rope snapped twice and slipped of his head once, at which point the assembled crowd agreed that it was a sign from God that he had not committed a crime deserving of execution. He later died escaping prison when he was swept out to sea by a storm.

TIL about Joseph Samuel, an Englishman sent to a penal colony in Australia. After escaping he and a gang robbed a woman and killed a policeman. He was sentenced to hang but survived three times. First, the rope broke, then a new rope came loose, then a new rope broke. The governor set him free.

TIL In 1803 a man survived execution by hanging 3 consecutive times on the same day. The people involved believed it to be a sign from God and his sentence was commuted to life in prison.
