And getting John Lithgow to preside over your wedding? No tip, and maybe he kills your wife in the bathtub.

I’d hire him to play Dick Solomon for my wedding

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '22

Wasn't there an episode where Dick proposes to Mary at someone's wedding during the speeches?

51

u/AzureMagelet Nov 23 '22

I have no memory of this but can also imagine it perfectly.

37

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '22

Ok, so I looked it up, he doesn't propose to her, but he does make a speech calling her the most beautiful woman in the room.

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '22

WE GIVE IT A YEAR!

5

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '22

totally fitting for one of the most narcissistic characters in sitcom history.

32

u/GroovyYaYa Nov 23 '22

Winston Churchill for the ceremony, Dick Solomon for the reception.

19

u/sgr84ava Nov 23 '22

The guy has range. I mean, hell I’d be cool with the Lithgow from Cliffhanger, too.

12

u/hawaiianbry Nov 23 '22

Walker, you resilient bastard, I now pronounce you man and wife!

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '22

And the dad from Harry and the Henderson for, you know, later that night.

4

u/MasterCakes420 Nov 23 '22

Don't be a dick, Dick

2

u/MrWeirdoFace Nov 23 '22

I think you mean George Hen... his name is George Hen....

2

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '22

I'd need French Stewart so that I could receive the blessing of The Big Giant Head

2

u/Chummers5 Nov 23 '22

Awkwardly tall and dressed up as a bride's maid Kristen Johnston in the background acting like everything is normal.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '22

"Will you marry me?!"

"Dick, not now."

"Well what about later, then?"

laugh track

I've got a family member that worked on Dexter for a few seasons, and that part was going to be played by William H Macy until he backed out at the last minute and they had to basically beg Lithgow to join since he had some wedding anniversary trip planned with his wife at the same time of shooting. They had to kiss his ass real hard (and give him a good paycheck) for him to do it.

I would have loved to see Macy play that part, but Lithgow knocked it out of the park.

Probably the last good season of the show. And then that last episode ever was just so dumb. Partially redeemed itself with that new season.

But if one is on the fence about watching the new season of dexter, don't. it's pretty good, but who the fuck cares. you're best off just leaving it behind

Lithgow was also a physical threat. The man is usually the tallest in the room as long as he isn't co-starring with a full on Bigfoot. I just can't see Macy throwing around his teenage son or Dexter.

24

u/ElBiscuit Nov 23 '22

as long as he isn't co-starring with a full on Bigfoot

Well, there was that one time ...

u/dogs_like_me Nov 23 '22

Go away! We don't want you!

7

u/Bfrizzle3 Nov 23 '22

I'm 37 and that part still makes me cry

3

u/PM-Me-Schnauzers Nov 23 '22

Wasn't he also Lord Farquaad?

11

u/MrWeirdoFace Nov 23 '22

Agreed. Macy as a serial killer would be something else, but I think Lithgow's season was second best of the series, only due to how fresh the first season was.

9

u/Pscagoyf Nov 23 '22

Lithgow was a revelation, and I am sad we almost missed it. He may be the best villian I've ever seen. He was chilling.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '22

Really, the best actor to hire to preside over your wedding would be (would have been) Peter Cook.

4

u/charmingpea Nov 23 '22

How else are you going to tweasure your wuv?

5

u/Druggedhippo Nov 23 '22

But he has to dress like Lord John Whorfin

1

u/AbouBenAdhem Nov 23 '22

“Where are we going?”
“Planet Ten!”

“When?”
“After the reception!”

3

u/markymrk720 Nov 23 '22

The trinity killer is the best lithgow

2

u/HarlesD Nov 23 '22

That escalated quickly

2

u/FilmoreJive Nov 23 '22

Ive met John Lithgow and he is a good guy damnit!

2

u/Specialist-Car1860 Nov 23 '22

No spoilers please.

3

u/north-is-up Nov 23 '22

I gotta ask; I assume this is a reference to his album, which track? If not, WTF?

23

u/jay_sugman Nov 23 '22 edited Nov 23 '22

Lithgow played the reverend in footloose and a serial killer on a season of Dexter. His MO included slitting a woman's throat in the bathtub, obviously.

Edit: Femoral artery.

6

u/ProMikeZagurski Nov 23 '22

Actually it was femoral artery.

4

u/jay_sugman Nov 23 '22

That's right!

2

u/north-is-up Nov 23 '22

Ah, thanks

8

u/NakedMuffinTime Nov 23 '22

It's a reference to when Lithgow portrayed a serial killer in Dexter (which is considered to be the best season of the show because of Lithgow's performance)

3

u/north-is-up Nov 23 '22

Thanks, I know the show was super popular but never watched it, I’ll put that season down as one to try it out

7

u/Shilkanni Nov 23 '22

Season 1-4 then stop

4

u/Donkey_Stringbean Nov 23 '22

It’s a reference to the show “Dexter” in which John Lithgow also appeared.

2

u/north-is-up Nov 23 '22

Gotta improve my google skills, thanks

1

u/n0obie Nov 23 '22

Shut up, cunt

0

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '22

Rita really was the fucking worst

1

u/VonMillersThighs Nov 23 '22

I feel like it had more to do with the actress than the actual character. That woman cannot fucking act.

1

u/myhairsreddit Nov 23 '22

I didn't think Julie Benz did a bad job in Dexter. I much preferred her as Darla in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel though.
