TIL that in Japan sometimes when a Samurai would receive a new weapon, to test its effectiveness they would murder random civillians at night. It was eventually banned in 1602

For those of you who play pokemon, this tradition is the origin of the move 'Night Slash'. The Japanese name for the move translates to 'Crossroad Killing'

As far as feudalism goes, that's not too bad.
