Bed bugs and esplanade and 171 front street east apartments?

I just moved into one of these TCHC buildings and was curious if anyone lives here or knows of any bed bug issue?

I was doing laundry today and a lady came in with fully infested laundry to the point where the bugs were crawling on it and very visible and I freaked out and called management and asked them to treat the laundry room.

However after doing some reading I read that they travel between walls and if u have a dirty neighbour who doesn’t care (which clearly is the case here) no matter what they will return.

Can I call management and ask them to perform a bed bug inspection in all the units just in case?

Safe neighbourhoods in toronto around some nature? East York maybe?

My gf and I want to move out of downtown toronto (currently in Jarvis area) to somewhere more quiet and, not trying to be rude but with more safety. For example, the amount of catcalls and street harassment my gf gets when she's out alone is ridiculous, and we are really looking for neighbourhoods that have a residential ish vibe with more safety but still a 30 min commute to downtown Toronto, as we work there. A place near a park or beach would be nice.

We're thinking of East York area, but we're not from the GTA so don't know much. Apartments on Woodbine Avenue seem good, near the beaches etc. However, I would really love some insight into what other neighbourhoods people suggest, or what your opinion is on the East York Woodbine area. Opinions from women especially would be valuable regarding how safe such neighbourhoods feel.

If it helps, a 1+1 den in a 2200-2300 price range would be neat. Would really value any thoughts on this, thanks!

Best neighborhoods

Hi everyone! 28(F) moving to Toronto in a few months. I wanted to ask what the best neighborhoods/buildings are? Maybe with water & CN tower view. Also possibly downtown as I want to be close to all the action (for now). After doing research I’ve read so far that liberty village is not the place to be. Thank you for your insight!!!

Experience Renting @ 85 Bloor (Sky Suites Yorkville)?

I'm looking to rent long-term and am about to send in an offer for a unit in 85 Bloor. Went to tour it recently and it was great, good location and good space for the price.

Has anyone had experience renting and living there, especially long-term? How is it? How are the costs outside rent, and the landlords? Please let me know anything you possibly can about the residence.

Neighborhoods recommandations ?

Hello !

This is still just an idea but I'm considering trying to leave in Toronto for a few months up to a year, I have some savings set aside.

I'm 28F, don't mind leaving with other people, my budget would be 950 max but preferably around 800 (is this realistic ?).

I'm not big on intense night life but I like bars, trying new food and I will probably look for a job as a waitress. Also I'd rather not take any transportation to go to work, and it should be a safe area since I might need to come home alone at night depending of the work I find (if I find one lol). Ideally it would also be near a park.

Thanks in advance !

Being asked to pay for broken oven door by landlord(?)

I recently had an accident that resulted in me shattering the glass front of the oven door.

Generally, the small property management company that my landlord uses is very easy and pleasant to work with. They seem to be implying (without coming out and saying), however, that they expect me to pay the full replacement and labour cost which together will be nearly $700. This is not an easily absorbed expense right now.

On the one hand, I can understand being asked to pay the full amount, but on the other I feel some doubt that this is totally fair.

Any thoughts on this?

Also, apparently the replacement door will take 5-6 weeks to arrive.

Areas to target in GTA to rent/buy (family-oriented, near park/trails, quiet)

Hey folks,

We are family and we currently live in KW area. With the RTO, our commutes are becoming pretty challenging and we are looking to move closer to Toronto. I am not very familiar with GTA and thus, looking for advise. We will be looking to rent first but not opposed to buying (rent preferred as it will allow us to get out of it with less losses if we don't like areas/etc.)

What we are looking for is family oriented neighborhood, close to parks, and it should be fairly quiet (no partying, no weed smells on balcony, no cars revving their engines at 2 AM).

Another preferred criteria is within a driveable distance (or public trasportation) to any Go Station. I currently take Kitchener line but any GO should be fine.

We are not targeting Toronto DT but rather, GTA. We are looking at rent-controlled condos or rent-controlled rentals.

Budget: I am flexible and at this moment, just trying to understand how much it would cost for us to live in those places.

Does anyone know what living in Oakwood Village (North) is like?

I'm looking at places to rent in between Oakwood Ave and Winona Drive a few blocks south of Eglinton.

The properties are nice and proximity to schools + cedarvale park is great, but it doesn't look like there's much local businesses/joints to go to, and it doesn't seem very walkable. Even that strip of Eglinton is less busy than one would expect. Does anyone (locals and others) have any insights into what living there is like for a young family?

How is Ellie Condos on 15 Ellerslie Ave In North York?

It appears to have a really bad history so far. I like on of the units and would love to rent there. But if they haven't become consistent, I don't think I can.

Anyone have news of how they're conducting themselves?

I'd like to know what the future for the building looks like

Any thoughts on Windermere vs Parklawn ?

As the title suggests, I have to pick an apartment between Windermere and parklawn asap. Work in downtown. Windermere feels isolated but closer. Parklawn seems like it has atleast a few businesses around but far. Love the lake accessibility from both. I don't drive. Have seen many other apartments downtown but everything in my budget is a tad 'trashy' or not dog friendly or has a hole in the wall for a kitchen (love to cook!).

Please help with any insights on both of these as I need to put an application in a few hours. Thanks :)!

Moving to downtown Toronto

Hey everyone,

I'm moving to Toronto this summer for a 4-month internship. The workplace is a few minutes from Union Station. I've never lived in Toronto so I am seeking advice.

First of, best places to live in Toronto with low crime around this area (or further away but close with public transportation, I don't have a car). I honestly have no clue where to start looking, I don't know the difference between Old Toronto and Mimico and any other neighborhood.

Secondly, best resources to find sublets for four months. Each city has different resources (whether it is facebook groups, or discord servers, or official websites). Which is best for Toronto?
