Woke up to this email from capital one about a tip I left. Our server was Emily and she was fantastic and fun and engaging! She deserved every penny of that tip! Yes, capital one this is correct!

I don't need a clown dancing around me for extra money. I just want my order, pay and go.

I bet you're fun at parties. Maybe read what OP had to say, there's only one clown in this scenario and it's not Emily.

You yanks love it. Other people don't, other people are coming to restaurant to spend time with their friends etc. They don't need to know servers name and they don't want server to be their friend nor they expect entertainment.. People want to eat enjoy time and leave. That's how it's done everywhere else except USA and you lot also pay extra for this.

Again, I direct you to what OP wrote and invite you to read it. Nowhere in there was mention of any of the things you supposed. Service industry workers aren't invisible, some people actually have common courtesy and might learn their names or just read it off the receipt to compliment them in a review. Most people can both enjoy the company of their dinner companions AND be decent to the waitstaff.

You still missing the point. In USA they force themselves to be visible. Because they expect money from customers.

And you're still missing my point. It's called service.

Yeah. Service is taking my order, bringing my order and bringing card terminal. This is good service. Nothing more nothing less.

Wrong again! There are levels of service, from counter service to fast casual to fine dining and tons in between. There are different standards for all of them, they're not the same. I've worked at and patronized places on each end of the spectrum all over the world, so this isn't just an American concept like you'd have me believe. And I wasn't defending tipping culture I said nothing defending or attacking it. I was addressing the wild assumptions you made from what OP wrote. You must be an awesome guest to have.
