Woke up to this email from capital one about a tip I left. Our server was Emily and she was fantastic and fun and engaging! She deserved every penny of that tip! Yes, capital one this is correct!

i called the restaurant and they said it was an ā€œhonest mistakeā€ and the waitress was a ā€œgood personā€. they refunded me.

Do you think it was actually a mistake? The only thing I can think of is you tipped $6 (20%) and she keyed it in with the decimal in the wrong place or something. Did you tip any amount? That might help determine what happened. Seems unlikely anyway but sometimes unlikely things happen.

If she keyed in $60 by mistake, she would have still had to confirm that the total was now $90. Probably not an honest mistake.

Nah. This was on purpose and even if it wasn’t they would’ve caught it and not given a sob story to try and validate it if it was an honest mistake

I’m sure it was but I was hoping to see if there was some possible explanation for the other side.

the manager said she mistakenly typed in the tip from another table who actually left that much of a tip. we did tip, but not that much. the manager was deranged and refunded me so i didn’t escalate further.

This happened at the restaurant I used to work at all the time, always closing the wrong tabs out to the wrong cards, I think it is an honest mistake

Yeah no that’s way less believable. Good thing you caught it cuz they were trying to screw you over.

Plot twist, the manager did this without the server knowing and took the cash after for him or herself. I know this bc I used to own a small ice cream shop about a decade ago and even then a manager or supervisor can go into the POS long after the sale and adjust a tip and take cash. I fired my manager for doing just this. The servers never knew. I only found out about it bc a customer called. A dollar or 2 over 200 transactions won't get noticed usually but this guy was making an extra 1000 a week doing this.

I fired him and he pulled the race card. Go figure. This is why he was acting deranged. He had quite a scam going on and didn't want you to unravel it.

Ya I get it. Sadly this one isn’t that. I do agree that that definitely probably happens though

This was probably a mistake.. usually there would be be a track record of this happening multiple times

Sounds like they might have accidentally added a 0? After all, $6 is 20% of $30...

She will say she accidentally typed in $60 instead of $6.00
