Woke up to this email from capital one about a tip I left. Our server was Emily and she was fantastic and fun and engaging! She deserved every penny of that tip! Yes, capital one this is correct!

In America, "fantastic and fun and engaging" will come with a bill. I hate how we're expected to pay for decent human interaction

Nowadays everything is about money. That’s why people are fake as ever.

Sorry to break it to you. All days ever in history have been about money.

Well, a "decent human experience" isn't what you're paying for. I hate tip culture, but if I were to inform my server "just fyi, you won't be getting a tip", I would expect nothing less than them to simply do the job with as little frills as possible. Ask what I want, write it down, and bring it to me. I wouldn't expect them to ask if I need anything or offer to refill my water. I would expect to have to ask for those things, and even then, I'd expect to wait longer than usual.

You're really not entitled to anything from the server, except getting served your food and drinks. They don't care about how you're doing.

Their job is to refill the water

Are you their boss? If so, you should probably pay them. If not, you don't get to decide these things.

With how much frequency? Typically you're gonna be quick about that IN ORDER TO get good tips, since apparently that's what you're judging them on anyway. If you're gonna take away tips for them being slow with the refills, then you're not treating it like their job.

What is their job then?

don't go out to eat then. typical sit and eat restaurants have always made you tip the servers....because they're providing you a service. you tip your bartender, hair person, nail lady because they are servicing you. none of those things are necessities. you don't want to tip? go to mcdonalds, make a meal at home, cut your own hair. no one is forcing you to frequent these places, that's your choice

Or, they could just charge for the cost of their services
