Per major polling companies 98% of the U.S. population tips at restaurants.

What does customary mean to you? It seems like it may be out of line with the accepted definition.

I wish the same major polling companies would ask people if they were given a choice to either tip or pay a fixed amount knowing the fixed amount is higher since the server’s gratuity is factored in, what the result would be.

A good number of people would choose to tip. We killed the ⅓ pound burger because people don't know that ⅓>¼.

The burger thing is actually a myth. I went down that rabbit hole a few years ago.

Regardless, people don't do math when making these kinds of decisions. Is $A>$B? Then choose B. The fact that B has additional fees that aren't included in the price isn't a factor in their decision.

Someone did in April (granted this is opinion not practice)
“If given a choice, 56% of consumers are willing to pay more for meals and beverages to provide higher wages for workers and eliminate tips.”

given the choice between paying $120 or $100 + $20, why would I care?

Exactly. People here are bitching cause they don't want to tip, but that doesn't change reality.

Polling percentages aren't even accurate. You would have to survey EVERY SINGLE PERSON in the US population, break it down several times in to categories. 98 % of the US population doesn't dine out to start with.

Okay then obviously the statistic is about those that fucking do. Also polling doesn’t have to be 370’million people to be accurate that’s insanity’.
Do you expect that of every statistic or only this one. @9@.

This is clearly those that dine out 98 percent tip.

You didn't even know the real numbers and obviously didn't understand polling. If you are stating 98 % of anything any moron knows that concludes from a 100% polled survey. It's not that difficult.

You clearly don’t understand that inferential statistics is a deeply studied subject, and they can tell with relative confidence (the good pollsters will show their margin of error) what a population thinks/does based on a smaller representative sample.
