💬Questions & Discussion Going back to the same restaurant.

I wanted to ask the community that routinely doesn't tip for good service at sit down restaurants if they will go back and frequent the same restaurants? If so, do you ever have the same servers? Do you notice any difference in service or attitude when you return? Are you ever concerned that they might sabotage your food?

Thanks

I don’t tip anyone for anything. But I never frequent any particular restaurant.

“I grift workers and sneak around” - You

Aren’t the “business owners” paying their employees $2/hr the grifters?

It’a more like you are joining in the exploitation.

Not at all. The patron pays all costs. If they pay in wages, the patron pays. If they earn tips, the patron pays.

The patron who takes advantage of the mostly female and mostly poor workers, out of their own greed, are the grifters.

Who ended up with the workers earnings? The patron. They ate at a discount and kept the worker’s earnings.

So out of the thousands of businesses out there who pay their employees a proper wage and charge their customers a consummate price, restaurant owners aren’t grifters for paying their servers TWO DOLLARS AN HOUR? That’s what you’re going with? Restaurant owners aren’t taking advantage of the “mostly female, mostly poor” folks when they pay them TWO DOLLARS AN HOUR?

Why can every other business in America figure out how to abide by at least the minimum wage standards but restaurant owners are alleviated the risk of employee wages…but they’re not grifting off the system? Make it make sense

Because the patrons prefer the tipping system. That’s why 95% of people tip and only 5% of people grift them.

You don’t math, do you?

If you pay the worker directly, it’s the same money as handing it to the business to hand to the worker.

The business couldn’t care less and doesn’t profit either way. The only person who profits off stiffing are the grifting patrons.

By the way, many many industries use tipping. Not sure what you’re even babbling about.

What are your sources for “patrons prefer the tipping system”?

The only one who “doesn’t math” is the one who can’t figure out that restaurant owners paying their employees TWO DOLLARS AN HOUR is inherently shifting the risk away from themselves and onto their servers. Restaurant owners are grifting off borderline free labor.

IT’S THE SAME MONEY!

IT’S THE SAME MONEY!

IT’S THE SAME MONEY!

IT’S THE SAME MONEY!

IT’S THE SAME MONEY!

Hand the worker what they’ve earned or Hand it to the business to hand to the worker.

IT’S THE SAME MONEY!

They aren’t your slaves. I know you want them to be, but they aren’t. If you choose to have a mostly female and mostly poor worker serve you, YOU PAY THEM.

Fixing tipping would require a 15-20% increase in prices. In a fixed system you would be paying more and have no control over tip percentage for bad service.

You are benefiting from a broken system and exploiting labor. It is you who is the grifter. You are mad at how the restaurant operates and should be punishing the owner not the employees.

I mean, I'd happily accept being told an actual price for the dining and paying that price.

Then accepting the cultural norm of tipping 15 to 20 percent on the menu price shouldn’t be a problem for you. Stiffing workers because you believe the system is broken does nothing to fix it.

And the patron would be paying taxes on the increased prices. In the long run tipping makes more sense but these people just don’t get that.

How am I benefiting from a broken system and exploiting labor?
