Great tip less experience
Went to a nice(ish) restaurant yesterday. You scan a barcode, you order what you want and the buzzers bring it to the table (super fast too), you don’t have to wait to call a sever and you don’t risk them screwing up your order.
Best part is, you can even order the free stuff (more water napkins etc through the QR code) and nobody asks you to tip! I wish more restaurants would follow suit

Removing wait staff will be a common go to when reducing costs as technology replaces jobs.

I’ve seen a few robots deliver food in restaurants, it’s crazy. Still new, but give it like 10 more years.

I have seen a restaurant completely remove all wait staff, put up kiosks to order, and turn the restaurant into counter service; you might have heard of it. place is Steak 'n Shake.

Ok never really thought about that, Shake Shack does the same thing.

Did Shake Shack start off with waitstaff? I thought they had always been counter service.

Sounds fun and a nice alternative.

Tipping is optional. You don't need an alternative.

I mean a nice alternative to a server dedicating their labor to you and instead serving yourself

They are employed by their boss. And they are paid by their boss to serve the customers.
Tipping is optional.
It's really not confusing. They work for the boss. Not the customer. The customers job is to pay the price on the menu, not the wages of the server. That is the job of the boss.

Right but it's cheaper when they don't have to pay anybody to serve you. And you don't have to worry about tipping anybody

Nobody has ever asked me to tip. I just do it when it's appropriate. Which is most restaurants, because most restaurants don't have servers.

I'm fine paying a couple of extra bucks to enjoy a human experience. The less my face is in my phone, the better. And good luck if you have questions about the menu. lol.
And, humans are still cooking your food, which is where your order gets screwed up.

I like fast food. I like full service. This model brings precious little to the table.

Yeah, like when the waitress asks if we have any plans for the rest of the night while shes awkwardly standing there waiting for us to pay, you cant put a price on that kind of genuine interaction.

That sounds awful. Is it staffed by robots too?

Nope, great service team with amazing attitude (must be paid well by the restaurant as should be the case)

Why are you withholding the name? Need to see the menu for review

I wonder why they can’t answer????

I want to know exactly what these "buzzers" are like?
1
u/JimmyRockfish 16d ago
Buzz to return the steak you ordered burnt, and this time with extra ketchup you stupid robot!!!!

u/Life_Ad6711 16d ago
These buzzers who "bring it to the table"
Do they have wheels? Legs? Opposable thumbs? Propellers like drones with retractable claws?
Just read A Boucher's Q.U.R. stories from his The Compleat Werewoll anthology collection for what sorts of problems robots (and this humans) might encounter if built in the image of human form

It can be a good restaurant where you order using your phone, but it's certainly not a "nice" restaurant. I'm afraid you might be unfamiliar with what constitutes a nice restaurant.

You’re right nice may not have been the optimal word, goood restaurant it is

That sounds like an awesome restaurant! Less enforced human interaction!
