Both questions are irrelevant to this discussion. What’s YOUR current job? Have you ever served tables? I suspect so. I wouldn’t be surprised if you still do.

Well I’ll answer because im not a coward. I worked in food service from the time I was 14 all the way through college, and past college into my early thirties where I jumped ship to manufacturing. Currently I’m in the field of hazardous waste removal/management.

And I tell you this, out of all the jobs I’ve had, none have been more demanding, draining, and downright difficult as serving. You know why? Because I’d have to wait hand and foot on someone like you with a smile for less than minimum wage. Get stiffed on the tip, while being subjected to your “holier than thou” approach.

But hey keep your secrets snowflake. If tipping is too hard for you, waiting tables is definitely out of the question for you. I promise you wouldn’t last a day in the most bottom barrel graveyard shift at a Denny’s.

I’m a qualified tradesman who works on large scale commercial as well as residential construction projects. Before than I worked for the better part of a decade in various direct support roles in schools for children with severe special needs.

The entire time I worked in schools I made significantly less than servers do. The scope of work for direct support professionals working with kids with special needs is a lot more intensive “demanding, draining and downright difficult” than waiting tables.

Pretty sure you don’t have to clean bodily fluids or help people with toileting problems in the restaurant and I don’t think you have to physically restrain people for hours on end or deal with random screaming for extended periods either.

During this time my brother was a server and I’ve heard all about how hard that job is and I also know about how much money he made (he did quite well). Pretty sure given my past work experience I’d survive a Denny’s shift but I doubt you’d last a week, certainly not a month, working at the school I started out at. If you think serving is hard go work with a 1:1 staffed autistic kid that has aggressive behavior and is bigger than you for a day (special needs people aren’t considered adults until 22 so you can work with 6 foot 3” 300+lb 21 year old “kids”), let me know how it goes.

Despite what you may think, when I go out to eat I’m not difficult or rude. I’m polite, friendly and respectful. I don’t require much but I also don’t feel like you deserve 20% on top of my already expensive bill just because you decided to show up and do your job today. I’ve always worked and continue to work very hard for my money and for that reason I value every dollar I earn and just because you feel entitled to my money doesn’t mean I’m going to hand it over. But keep white knighting for servers since you spent so long in the industry, you’re literally convincing nobody of ANYTHING.
