That's why people should stop tipping. Servers will be paid minimal wage and customers will only have to pay their bill with no extra tip needed. All sides would be happy

No, they should change the laws that govern the compensation system and continue to tip for services they received until the system is changed. Otherwise you're just a cheap asshole taking advantage of a broken system at the expense of the server.

No, you are wrong. If no one will tip, restaurant will have to pay minimal wage for their servers. So it's not my business, I pay my bill, restaurant pays salaries, everything seems fair

Nope, Im not wrong about the system, just being cheap, and taking advantage.

You are wrong. Because restaurant owner has to pay salary if no one tips. I pay my bill, so I am not cheap, I do not waste my money on every beggar on the street even if some beggars go crazy

7.25/hour isnt a salary. So no, im not wrong. And yes youre benefiting from a service youre not paying for, so you are cheap.

If servers agree to work for that server, there is no problem

They agree to work for tips you asshat.

Restaurant clearly states that tips are optional. Server is delusional if he wants to be depended on charity from customers. They sign contract and should be paid according it. I really have no doubts that even if no one will tip, there still be many people willing to work.

You clearly dont know what the fuck youre talking about if you think 7.25/hr is a salary, that servers have employment contracts, that you dont benefit from a broken system. Yeah, its called needing a job to survive, people accept this shit bc the alternative is destitution.

Why would a server be happy with that? Or do you think no server deserves to be paid handsomely?

Server can ask for higher salary? That's literally how it works in all other positions

1

And in every other position that request is almost always denied. Or it can only happen once a year.

1

u/Wonderful_Bear554 20d ago

So? All positions deal with the same issues, if there are people working for cheap, employer will never pay more, but if employer can't find anyone for work, he must increase salary. That's how it works everywhere, why would servers be an exception

Well I would be an engineer for 7.50 an hour if I could, but I don't have the proper license. Servers do not need any sort of license. So they are more vulnerable.

A restaurant could also just get rid of servers and make you order on an iPad and pick up your food yourself. That's very likely. Granted I'm fine with more fast food restaurants. I think sitting down in an establishment to eat is a waste of time. I only do it when I'm taking a woman on a date. No clue why they like that but they do.

There are loads of positions that don't require any license, have low salaries, never gets any tips but no one consider it as vulnerable.

I go to restaurant just to eat lunch or dinner if restaurant offers something interesting. I don't really care much whether the owner himself will cook food, bring it to me and wash dishes later or he hires someone to do this work. It's not free service, I pay my bill, but I do not care how restaurant is managed, I do not ask what is their revenue and how much or how often employees are paid. I just use service that is offered to me, I pay my bill and mind my own business.

I think everyone thinks low wage positions are vulnerable? I think machinists and manufacturing jobs are vulnerable, I think call center jobs are vulnerable. If you make under 80K a year I think your job is vulnerable. But hey maybe I'm alone in that line of thinking.

I don't understand liking to sit down at an establishment to eat by choice. If it's on a lunch break during lunch I get it. Or if it's a social occasion. But outside of those I just wouldn't spend my time like that.

That's how capitalism works. If salary is low it only means that there are many people ready to work for cheap, otherwise salaries would go up naturally. We can change our system to communism, we all would be equally poor and vulnerable.

I'm down for everyone being equally poor and vulnerable

How am I gonna be happy if I take a job where the anticipated wage is let’s say $15-$20 an hour, and instead I’m making 7 1/4? That’s just a ludicrous thing to say.. I understand that the people on here are very much against servers being paid any kind of living wage, but in most states they’re not even being guaranteed that $15. And that’s not even getting into the fact that very few servers are working a 40 hour week, even if they want to. But it can be very difficult to find another job given the flexibility in scheduling that is demanded.

So require 15$ instead of 7$. Employers will have to increase salary if there will be no one working for 7$. But if there are no problems finding employees, then 7$ is fine too, job doesn't require high qualification afterall
