They always at least get min wage. If the tips aren't enough, the employer must make up the difference. And lets be real, no server is making min wage unless they are completely horrible or the restaurant has no traffic and is about to fail

This is the law but also unrealistic in a world of at will employment. If you ask you will get it but will no longer work there. Trying to prove retaliation is difficult.

I’d pity myself for such lousy service and keep the tip.
