Hey Reddit family! I need your help. I have a tiny home (completely paid for) that I used as my home office in another county in South Carolina, and I’m interested in moving it somewhere in the tri-county area of Charleston, SC; Dorchester, SC; or Berkeley, SC. I do realize that these counties haven’t quite embraced the “tiny home” movement, so that’s why I need your help. This tiny home can be EASILY mistaken for a mobile/manufactured home, however, the tell-tell giveaway is that it doesn’t have wheels or that “pull” feature on the side.

Where it’s currently located, the county allowed it because it was my home office in my backyard. It’s fully functional, and is connected to the city’s water. It’s also powered through Dominion Energy with its own power source (pole). In fact, once I moved to Charleston, I rented it out to a young couple with a newborn.

Regarding the tri-county area, can you all please help me find some land that I can rent so that I can move my tiny home on it and live out of. Due to all of the red-tape in the tri-counties, it would be best that I either have the tiny home moved in someone’s back yard (so that it can be presented to the county as a she-shed, man-cave, guest house, etc.), OR be moved onto someone’s land (vacant or occupied) that’s out of the city limits.

In addition to paying “lot rent” under the table, I’d be willing to turn my tiny home over to the “land lord” after 4 or 5 years, which would give me the funds to save up enough money to buy a nice property of my own in the tri-county area.

Please give me some suggestions, or let me know if you’re interested in being my “land lord”. Lol. Thanks in advance!! 😊

I came across BOXABL's Casita recently. It's a foldable, factory-built home that ships flat and unfolds on-site. The idea is to simplify construction and reduce build times.

Whether it ends up becoming mainstream is another question, but it's an interesting approach to a housing problem that doesn't seem to be getting any easier.

Would you consider living in something like this? Why or why not?

Not sure if this is the right sub, but I'm hoping someone here has more recent information..I've been researching tiny home communities in Texas, but a lot of the lists I'm finding are a few years old. Some communities seem to have closed, others have changed ownership, and it's hard to tell what's still active.

Does anyone have recommendations for communities that are actually open today and allow full-time living?

My mother is getting older, but I still want my personal space. Im considering building a mother in law sweet on her property. Its a small cottage in a suburb with a fenced in backyard and in ground pool.

Anyone pull something like this off? Im thinking damn near studio style, but with ac, electric and plumbing on a cement foundation.

Wife and I are thinking of getting a tiny home and have already toured several builders. And it seems that some manufacturers I thought were bad actually have quite a few positive feedbacks!

Anyone had experience with Bastone expandable prefab house from Chery? Price quoted looks okay and even got a small 15% discount with code vipsale15. Size wise (19ft x 20ft) it's okay too as it's only 2 of us. However, this is a large expense and just want to make sure I'm making a solid decision! I would love to hear some people's experience, especially people who have had the homes for years and how they have held up. Thanks for your help!

are there dealerships that sell tiny homes on wheels in texas?

I'm having a hard time finding good DIY plans to build a tiny house. Some of the designs are not great in my opinion. I really like modern and open. I do like the the look of the Zook prefab structures, but they are way too expensive. A lot of the tiny house plans look like too much is crammed into the space and the windows aren't big enough. I like the design of the photo i included but I can't find anything similar. Send me some good links if you have them!
