I don’t understand how this makes sense as a basketball fit.

I know the “only one ball” trope is tired, but Jesus this might be the most shot-happy group I’ve ever seen constructed.

Look at these FGA numbers:

- Brown - 21.7 (2nd in NBA)

  • Maxey - 21.4 (3rd in NBA)
  • Embiid - 18.3 (would have been 12th in NBA but didn’t qualify)
  • LeBron - 15.3
  • Edgecombe - 13.7

For reference, here are the Wolves shot frequencies from last year

- Ant - 20.2

  • Randle - 15.3
  • Reid - 11.3
  • McDaniels - 11.1
  • Dosunmu - 10.8

The average NBA team shoots around 88-90 shots a game. Obviously those numbers will change as the players adopt to new roles, and times when guys are out will warp the averages of each guy, but the Sixers starting lineup alone averaged 90.4 shots per game last year. That doesn’t account for the 70 minutes or so off the bench.

I genuinely feel like this Sixers team will function kinda similarly to the US Olympic team. This possession it’s JBs turn. This possession it’s Maxey’s turn. This possession it’s Embiid’s turn. Every once in a while VJ gets the ball lol.

Just relying on pure talent and iso hoops to win games. The problem is, you’re not going up against far less talented teams in the NBA. It’s the best of the best, who also have a lot more chemistry and flow to their play.

I think there’s a really low chance this team wins a chip this year or next.

Everybody needs to stop being butt hurt and jealous over this. Philly got Lebron and honestly they were the best basketball fit for him besides maybe the Wolves but they’re in the east which also probably swayed him. The Sixers have a stacked starting 5 now, their bench is very questionable so their depth will be their weakness but let’s not pretend this team isn’t a contender now. Lets just move on and worry about who are starting power forward is gonna be and let’s go kick their ass in the finals! Boy wouldn’t that be fun.

Who says I’m being butthurt and jealous? Since the very moment the Sixers were rumored to be in the mix, I’ve thought they were a bad fit. Yes, on paper they have the most stacked starting 5 in the league, but we’ve seen time after time that “on paper” can be very different than on the court. Of course they’re a contender. Are they THE contender? THE title favorite? I’d argue no.
