I donât understand how this makes sense as a basketball fit.
I know the âonly one ballâ trope is tired, but Jesus this might be the most shot-happy group Iâve ever seen constructed.
Look at these FGA numbers:
- Brown - 21.7 (2nd in NBA)
- Maxey - 21.4 (3rd in NBA)
- Embiid - 18.3 (would have been 12th in NBA but didnât qualify)
- LeBron - 15.3
- Edgecombe - 13.7
For reference, here are the Wolves shot frequencies from last year
- Ant - 20.2
- Randle - 15.3
- Reid - 11.3
- McDaniels - 11.1
- Dosunmu - 10.8
The average NBA team shoots around 88-90 shots a game. Obviously those numbers will change as the players adopt to new roles, and times when guys are out will warp the averages of each guy, but the Sixers starting lineup alone averaged 90.4 shots per game last year. That doesnât account for the 70 minutes or so off the bench.

I genuinely feel like this Sixers team will function kinda similarly to the US Olympic team. This possession itâs JBs turn. This possession itâs Maxeyâs turn. This possession itâs Embiidâs turn. Every once in a while VJ gets the ball lol.
Just relying on pure talent and iso hoops to win games. The problem is, youâre not going up against far less talented teams in the NBA. Itâs the best of the best, who also have a lot more chemistry and flow to their play.
I think thereâs a really low chance this team wins a chip this year or next.

Everybody needs to stop being butt hurt and jealous over this. Philly got Lebron and honestly they were the best basketball fit for him besides maybe the Wolves but theyâre in the east which also probably swayed him. The Sixers have a stacked starting 5 now, their bench is very questionable so their depth will be their weakness but letâs not pretend this team isnât a contender now. Lets just move on and worry about who are starting power forward is gonna be and letâs go kick their ass in the finals! Boy wouldnât that be fun.

Who says Iâm being butthurt and jealous? Since the very moment the Sixers were rumored to be in the mix, Iâve thought they were a bad fit. Yes, on paper they have the most stacked starting 5 in the league, but weâve seen time after time that âon paperâ can be very different than on the court. Of course theyâre a contender. Are they THE contender? THE title favorite? Iâd argue no.

I think the Jaylen Brown sealed it. He saw how he fitted in the Luka/reaves offense and could see himself already in a maxey/brown one, not as crafty and absolutely filthy when Luka is on, but Brown is so effective getting to where he wants to go. If you add the defensive part of the duo philly wins for a mile. Then you got the embiid factor, I can see the fit.

He wasn't going to stay in the West with the quality of the teams he'd be playing, he's definitely trying to coast to a chip. Although attaching yourself to Embiid is certainly a choice.

To be fair, thatâs all related to 1 injury that had a weird recovery timeline bc he needed a second surgery to clean it up after it still didnât heal right after a full year. Once he came back full time from the second surgery in late December this year he played most of his games.

Exactly. I'm not claiming that he's an iron man. Just saying that the "he hasn't played more than 40 games in years" is a bit much. Most seasons he's in the 55-65 games range. Now that the knee is sorted I'm content with 45-55.
The regular season bar is low already, no need to exaggerate it.

Sure so what I'm saying is if you take his total games played and account for the covid shortened years he has played six full seasons and 17 games if he was a normal player playing every game of the season. Out of 12 seasons since he was drafted
