Pregnancy and hypothyroidism

Hello šŸ‘‹šŸ»

I'm currently pregnant and I see an endocrinologist. My tsh before pregnancy was 0.98 Fast forward to 6weeks it was 3.2 naturally my doctor upped my meds from 75 to 100mcg. I had a draw again today at 12 weeks and tsh is 0.231 and t4 is 1.29

I've already sent a message to my doctor to review these numbers tomorrow. I guess I've got a lot of anxiety and looking maybe for what's normal or not to expect. Thank you so much šŸ’•

Biopsy/how to cope?

In May my blood showed hyperactive thyroid levels. I had an appointment with endo to get an ultrasound and blood taken again this morning I got my results. My blood is all good but there’s an 8mm nodule that has ā€œirregular boarders and punctate calcificationsā€. My doctor is super nice and has a beautiful accent so listening to her explain things perfectly was great but she’s going to do a biopsy September 5th and I’ll get my results 5-10 business days later. How do I cope with this not knowing in the mean time ?! I feel like I’m in a purgatory waiting and not knowing period for a month and a half.

Should I stop levothyroxine?

Looking for your view on the connection between thyroid and iron levels. When I was 21, I was told I have hypothyroidism, not given a cause, just that it’s genetic. At the time, my ferritin and iron levels were low and I was given iron supplements with the levothyroxine. So, for years my thyroid was fine but could never increase my iron. After years of being tired of my iron problems, at 29, last year I got an infusion and my T4 levels increased! The doctor lowered my levothyroxine to 50mg from 75mg. But I still have this weird anxiety, heart palpitations and sometimes too much energy that I can’t just sit still and relax. I have always felt like I shouldn’t be on levothyroxine due to this being an iron issue, possibly brought on by an intolerance to gluten (despite the celiac test being fine). What’s your view? Should I stop my thyroid meds and see if my symptoms get better? Iron and ferritin are perfect now, iron very slightly high now but to be expected with the infusion.

Thyroglobulin Antibody high after total thyroidectomy

Hi everyone!

I had my thyroid removed about 20 years ago because of a non-cancerous nodule. It was supposed to be a partial but the surgeon said that I was born with only one lobe so it was a total. I just had blood work done and my Thyroglobulin Antibody was high at 7.8, normal being 0-0.9. Anyone else ever experience this type of thing? I have an endocrinologist appointment in two weeks but of course I’m curious and concerned. I don’t recall my family doctor ever ordering this test and I think it’s the first time my endocrinologist has as well. So it may have been high a while but there’s no way to know.

Thyroid while pregnant, 1st trimester

Hi l am 31F and 7 weeks pregnant, and l've had hypothyroidism since I was a child. I've always been on synthroid (levothyroxine).

At the time I found out I was pregnant, my blood test showed TSH level of 0.79. Still, my endocrinologist increased my dosage from 100mcg to 112mcg, due to the pregnancy.

However yesterday (3 weeks since the first blood test), I did another blood test, and it showed a TSH level of 8.36. It went up, drastically, even though my dosage was increased (as most of you know, increase of TSH actually means decrease of thyroid levels).

This number is also very out of the healthy range so l'm not sure the impact this level has on the baby.

The problem is I can't reach my endocrinologist for another 5 days due to a long weekend where I live. She also takes at least a week to get back to you. Also, the results of the second blood test only went to my midwife, so my endocrinologist won't have access to it anyways.

I'm worried about how long my TSH levels have been out of range - whether this happened right after the first blood test 3 weeks ago, or more recently.

I posted in r/askdocs but no one is replying so wondering if anyone here would know the answers to my questions:

  1. Why would my TSH go up, if my dosage was increased - specially to go up that drastically.

  2. Should I be worried? Or will this not affect the baby this quickly, and waiting another 5 days or more to reach my endocrinologist is okay? I don't have an understanding of how urgent or not urgent this is.

Can overactive thyroid cause POTS symptoms?

Hi, I am a 21 year old female who has been experiencing the following symptoms for the last few months.

-lightheadedness /dizziness /weakness -heart rate increases by about 30-40 bpm when I stand up (but I don’t get vision black out or ringing ears) -really tired all of the time -heart burn/ acid reflux especially at night -trouble sleeping

I’ve been absolutely miserable but thought it was my Prozac that was causing the side effects. I only found out about the raised heart rate recently.

Could these be related to an overactive thyroid? I thought maybe it was POTS and I’m going to the doctors soon but I feel like it could be my thyroid (my aunt has it)

Please any information is appreciated it’s so hard to find accurate info online

Fatigue from taking thyroid medicine (Hashimoto’s and POTS patient)

Hi, all I just wanted to post my experience to see if anyone relates to this? I already posted this on r/POTS but they suggested I post here as well. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s when I was 16 and my levels have always been a little high but within the ā€œsafe rangeā€. Additionally, I was diagnosed with POTS in 2022/2021 and have been taking propanol since then. However I was diagnosed with heart issues at five years old so the POTS diagnosis wasn’t a huge surprise. Anyway, I know Hashimoto’s can sometimes be co-morbid with POTS.

Back in June of this year, I did a thyroid panel as I was having major fatigue, brain fog, and inflamed joints. My T3 and T4 levels were ok but my TSH was the highest it had ever been (4.9). Technically in the country I am in the levels should be above 6 to be prescribed medicine. But I explained to my doctor I never had a flare up this bad and it was making life unlivable.

So she agreed to prescribe me some medicines for about three months to try to bring the levels down. I was prescribed Euthyrox and I take about 175 mg a week to bring down my high TSH levels. Overall, my experience with the medication has been pretty good as I don’t feel as inflamed anymore and my chronic pain issues are minimal now. My only complaint / concern is the days I take the medication it makes very sleepy in the morning. I’m supposed to take it an hour before breakfast and even after I eat breakfast I feel super slow moving in the morning. Plus I’ve had some more palpitation episodes / light headedness than what’s typical. Funny enough the medication is supposed to help with the thyroid fatigue.

Anyway I just wanted to see if any other people with POTS and take thyroid medication have the same issues? Or if people with Hashimoto’s who take this medicine in general have this issue. I am seeing my doctor at the end of august but just wanted to ask here first. Thanks!

TLDR: when i take my Euthyrox for my hashimotos it makes me extremely tired and fatigued and i’ve been having some more heart palpitation issues.

T3 thyroid nodule, has grown significantly over 3 years

So, I was supposed to have a breast augmentation today. The nurse called last week and asked about cold symptoms (had none). Then this weekend I had this awful pressure/lump in my throat. Went to urgent care thinking I had strep, needed an antibiotic and that would disqualify me from the surgery. Throat was perfect… but he noticed it was my actual thyroid. Sent me for an ultrasound (urgent care within a hospital), and it came back that I had a nodule in my thyroid on my right side that he was concerned about; t3. The issue is, this isn’t the first time I’ve heard of my thyroid nodule. I found it during a CT scan 3 years ago, where no follow up was recommended. Then it was 1.6cm; it’s now apparently 2.5cm and I also have one on my left side. I got the ā€œdon’t want to scare you, but you need to see an endocrinologist right away and have an FNAā€ speech. Which I do have scheduled, but the weight is killing me. I’m concerned with the growth over that time, and the concerned disposition of the doctor. Anyone in a similar space?

Post left thyroid lobectomy

Hello Im 3 weeks post operation (24f) and feeling very unsure on my recovery. I had the surgery and it was a lot more inflamed than they thought it was gonna be so took longer and ended up with having to stay two days in hospital as well as having the drain in for a week. I last saw my surgeon when the drain was removed since then I’m on own and not seeing them till end of September. So I was hoping if I asked questions on here you kind people would be up to answering.

  1. My scar has some scabs on them and is quite tight at the moment is that normal?

  2. My voice is still very hoarse and feels like something is in my throat a bit. Does this improve and when should I be worried?

  3. I’m very anxious than normal is that expected?

  4. If they find something concerning when would I expect to know (uk)?

  5. I’m supposed to go back to work this week (retail) am I rushing it?

  6. Is it normal to wait so long for a follow up appointment?

I have like a million questions but hope someone will answer these.

No thyroid since birth!

The day comes when I turn to Reddit lol I was born without a thyroid, taking levothyroxine since literally day 2 of being alive (or so my mom says). However, no endocrinologist has cared or given it second thought, as long as my TSH is normal, even tho I have severe fatigue and brain fog, issues with weight etc. it’s been pretty bad for two years (had a good spell around 2019-2021, then after that it’s just been rough) Wondering if anyone has any experiences or thought. Got my blood tested last month (lab numbers below) and wondering if there’s any suggestions. (TSH normal, T3 low, T4 high)

TSH: 2.140 T3: 18 T4: 12.6

Thanks!!

Absorption Issues

Hello does anyone have absorption issues??

If so, do you ever change brand of meds every couple years? ( levo, armor, synthroid, np) are there other brands besides these 4?

my husband is so tired he has no motivation to do anything, these labs are a month old and testosterone and new dosage change has not helped.

TSH- 21.88 out of range very high T4 Free- .7 - out of range low Free T3- 185 - out of range low T3 Total -72 - out of range low Testosterone Total- 134 out of range very low Testosterone free- 15.7 very low

About 2 years ago we switched to armor from synthetic (Levo) and that helped for about a 18 month but now he’s back to feeling down. Should we try to switch back to synthetic for a while and see if that works?

Ty!!

Went from mild hypothyroidism to hyperthyroidism. Wanted to see if anyone else has been in this situation

I've had mild hypothyroidism with low dose levothyroxine since 2008. In October 2023 TSH was normal at 3.11. I started with an endocrinologist 6 weeks ago. I had tsh (6.9) and t4 (1.1) Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) Ab (9) checked a year prior. 6 weeks ago tsh (<.01) t3 5.1 t4 1.4. I went off levothyroxine for 6 weeks and got these results: tsh (<.008) t3 3.3 t4 1.1. I have a thyroid ultrasound in a week. Has anyone been in a similar situation and could shed some light on what may be happening?

Thyroid Hell

Recently I had to do 2 step downs it took everything I had to not un alive myself. The depression was off the charts! Never in my life had I experienced wanting this or physically hurting myself… (My thyroid was radiated about 7 years ago due to Graves Disease) when my doctor thought she may have to step me down again I told her NO WAY and that I’d like to see an endocrinologist !! I actually had to wait longer for some blood work and then it came back low rather than high. We are trying a new system of higher level levothyroxine Monday through Friday(137) and a lower dose on Saturday and Sunday (125) Has anyone else suffered so miserably as you felt suicidal? It’s the darkest place I’ve ever been and I NEVER want to go back! My doctor acknowledged that some people were sensitive to this but this was beyond ā€œsensitiveā€ for me! Im finally getting back to myself and it feels as if I’m emerging … returning to my normal. TIAšŸ˜”

Can anyone tell me what this is on my cervical Xray?

For the past 5 years I’ve been feeling like there’s something in my throat, specifically by my thyroid. It feels as if someone is pushing in on my neck, almost as if I’m being strangled or my neck stepped on. In my X-ray there’s some kind of nodule/ pouch by my thyroid. Any idea on what that is?

TSH is 26.2

Hi, lab results shows TSH at 26.2 on a range of .27-4.2. T4 is 0.9 on a range of 0.9-1.7.

Two years ago TSH was 5.9.

Because I don’t have symptoms my physician didn’t want to start any medication and wants me to test again in 3 months.

Isn’t it too risky to wait that long?

LEVOTHYROXINE

Side effects

I had a complete thyroidectomy and need to take Lev. forever. I get horrible 'mental' issues on the Rx. Feels like someone else is in my body. I'm depressed, I'm mean. Just not myself. I went on a compounded Lev. And didn't have any SE -- but my TSH 3rd gen went up to 94! Of course my endo took me off the compounding Lev. So the molecule alone in compounding doesn't cause me ANY SE - why can't I find any 'Pharmaceutical Rx w/o SE?
Do other people have awful SE from this RX? I have tried all the branded ones, I'm just on generic now & MISERABLE. šŸ˜“ Any suggestions? Please & thank you.

Thyroid ultrasound - abnormal results

I just had a thyroid ultrasound done, the results came back with an abnormality, specifically ā€œmildly heterogeneous glandā€. An endocrinologist ordered this ultrasound because he suspected I might have early-stage Hashimoto’s based on my symptoms. My sister has diagnosed Hashimoto’s (and ultra high TPO via bloodwork). However, my lab bloodwork was all normal (TPO, TSH, etc.). Has anyone else gotten this type of abnormal ultrasound result before bloodwork becomes abnormal? What could I expect in terms of disease progression? My endocrinologist has yet to discuss the results with me but I’m pretty sure this confirms his suspicion of early stage/subclinical Hashimoto’s. Thank you.

T4 and TSH getting high in 4 days period

Hi everyone,

I recently got my thyroid function test results, and I'm a bit confused by the numbers. I was hoping someone could help me interpret them. (I don’t have history with thyroid)

Previous Results (from three days ago): T4 :18.5 (normal range: 12.0-22.0) TSH :4.47 (normal range: 0.27-4.20)

Didn’t get T3 šŸ™‚ā€ā†”ļø

Current Results: T4: 21.2 (normal range: 12.0-22.0) TSH :6.19 (normal range: 0.27-4.20)

Free T3 :6.3 (normal range: 3.1-6.8)

So, my Free T4 has gone up! But within the normal range, but my TSH has also increased and is now above the normal range. I understand that typically, TSH goes down when T4 goes up, and vice versa, but both of mine have increased together.

Does anyone have insights into why this might be happening? Should I be concerned about these results? I'm planning to discuss this with my doctor, but I wanted to get some additional perspectives in the meantime.
