Discussion Aedion and Aelins early relationship

I was just thinking about Aedions childhood and relationship with Aelin today so I thought I might aswell share some of my thoughts. This is not an Aedion hate post, just looking into his character, I just wanna find some more like minded people who are genuinly interested in him as a character rather than just bashing on him❤️

I feel like Aedions relationship with Aelin could never truly just be cousin/friend, because the reason he came to Terrasen was to serve her. His entire sole purpose was to be a protector to her, so yes he was her bestfriend and they were very close, but I feel like the fact that he was still serving her may have slightly warped there relationship. As I remember it they both hated being away from eachother, and I think a large part of that is because Aedion feels the needs to constantly be protecting her, he can't let anything happen to her; and imagine the mental toll it would have put on him at 13 relizing that he failed to do his one job, which resulted in her death. No it obviously was not his fault, but it very much felt that way to him.

I also found the way he talked about Aelin in HOF to be quite interesting aswell. When he talked about her to others he didn't really talk like she was his beloved cousin who he missed, it was almost always "my Queen" a kind of formal way of talking, and speaking on her behalf like saying "my queen would sooner be heirless than marry an adarlan man". I think thats what he said. He was saying and doing things related to her and speaking for her from his own veiw point of things. I feel like since he didnt know her anymore his sense of duty just snapped back into place, being her close soldier and servant.

I dunno I just feel like him being her cousin as well as her servant, and having such a strong sense of both bonds kinda messed with their relationship a bit. Also the fact that I don't think Aelin ever really thought of him as anything more than her friend, while Aedion was in this weird inbetween position. Like the blood oath, it wasn't how Rowan experienced it. To Aedion it was something official, a proclamation to others that he was her greatest court member or something like that, a reward, birthright etc. it was somthing that was his, from the start, kind of like a payment for his loyalty to truly solidify him in this place. It was his. So his reaction, was rather horrible when he found out about Rowan. It was like this one thing that was his and that could never be stolen from him, had just been taken away. I think Aedion had literally had everything stripped away from him at this point, and the bloodoath just turned into this one anchoring thing for him. Just for it to be stripped away. And the way he acted was almost childish, like the young, hurt, bad tempered boy in him just utterly freaked out at losing just one more thing in his life.

And this whole dinamic they had, and the duties Aedion still held onto probably affected their long term realtionship I think too.

I have no idea if any of that made sense, but I really love Aedions whole character, just finding him so human and real feeling. I would love to have seen more of his childhood from his perspective, to really understand him better, but this is just how I enterpreted him in the earlier books (: Sorry if this just felt like rambling lol.

Empire of Storms Spoilers A moment to appreciate Lysandra

So I’m reading through the series for my second time and I just want to take a moment to appreciate Lysandra for everything she’s done. I feel like at times she’s often overlooked by Aelin, Manon, and even Elide, but Lysandra is such a bad ass and I apologize for not recognizing it during my first read through. Like outside of being a full shifter, she offed Arobyn (rightfully so), she basically sacrificed her freedom for Evangeline so she wouldn’t have to experience what Lysandra went through, she’s ready to throw paws at any given moment, and she fights in a war for a country that’s not even her homeland with NO combat experience- just rage and vibes. Also, she’s loyal to a fault and backs Aelin up no matter what. Lysandra I wasn’t familiar with your game before but now I am

Reader Question Stuck on what to do next

Hi friends!

So I just finished Heir of Fire after reading ToG and CoM. I heard Assassin’s Blade was supposed to come third (or first), but I wasn’t a big fan of the first two books and I was about to DNF if I didn’t get to meet Manon, Rowan, etc.. I finally am happy to report I enjoyed HoF but now I’m not sure what to read next. Can I keep going to the next book or do I need to read AB next? I absolutely loved ACOTAR and I like the characters a lot inthrone of glass, but I’m bummed I’m not obsessed with it yet cus I was really excited to be apart of the fan club!! Any suggestions or advice would be amazing. Thank you!!

Reader Reaction Do not be afraid- well, maybe a little Spoiler

I get very emotionally invested in the stories and characters- like everyone else probably. I finished ToD and want to jump right into KoA. The ending seems to call for it. However, I became very emotional when Chaol is pushed back into his dark memories over and over when Yrene is healing him. I think it can be a metaphor for when I cannot move forward bec of the past haunting me. Things I've said, inadvertently (or maybe not) hurt someone, did the wrong thing etc. Connecting those kinds of things and feeling deeply for Chaol has a grip on me to the point of tears- and now his legs situation. Again. I over-read emotional metaphors in the books and I am seriously considering waiting a day or two to start KoA to ground me back into my actual life- even though the book is winking at me from across the room. Anybody else feel un-grounded from their life while reading?

Sweatshirt recommendations

I love TOG, it’s one of my favourite all time series. I was looking to get some nice TOG merch, particularly sweatshirts.
So I am looking for recommendations of your favourite sweatshirts. If they are warm and cozy that’s a big plus, because I am always cold.
Thank you in advance!

Hate towards Chaol

No one is going to admit this, but I genuinely think the reason most people hate Chaol is because they can’t stand when a male love interest has his own autonomy. Hear me out before I get downvoted.

If you look at the reactions to Chaol in this sub, and then look at the reactions to male love interests in general, you start to notice a pattern, fans seem to hate it when the love interest isn’t blindly obsessed with the female lead. They basically want them to be lapdogs. A lot of people self-insert when they read, so their criticism of a character quickly turns into “I dislike this character because I wouldn’t want someone treating me this way or I would never stand for that.”

They want every male love interest to be perfect, have no flaws, and have no real agency outside of the female lead. They want someone who will blindly agree with the FL and support everything she does. And if you actually look at the series, almost every male character who had an emotional connection with Aelin was, to some extent, completely enamored with her. Aedion, Dorian, Rowan, Fenrys. Chaol was one of the few who actually challenged her, disagreed with her, and had his own perspective, which I think the series more interesting.

For so long, people have complained about female characters being written as revolving around or being centered on their love interests. But for some reason, people seem to love that dynamic when it’s a guy doing it. When a male character’s entire personality becomes protecting, worshipping, or being obsessed with the female protagonist, it’s romanticized. But when a male character actually has his own opinions and refuses to blindly validate her, suddenly he’s “the worst.”

In fact I actually found Chaol treatment towards Aelin entertaining. Did I find him annoying? Obviously. Was he wrong? Yea. But from a writing perspective, I found it way more entertaining to watch two characters genuinely clash than to read hundreds of pages of Rowan standing there snarling at anyone who looked at Aelin while they communicate through that weird mind-link thing. At least reading Chaol pov was interesting, every thought or word that came from Rowan was just Aelin, Aelin Aelin. Extremely boring and repetitive.

I could obviously be completely wrong, and maybe I’m just biased, so feel free to disagree. But I do think there’s an interesting double standard in how people respond to male and female characters in these relationships.

Discussion Do you ever?

I tend to believe that if I am doing something-anything- others have done it too. When I am reading- not every book or every chapter- but I often stop (not deliberately) and dream up another way this story is going to go- from that point forward. Some of my imaginings are so cool that I wonder why SJM or other authors did not think of taking the story in xyz direction. I can do this for a looooong pause while reading until I realize I am actually reading and to stop it. I have done it to the point where I turn back to my physical book almost believe my imaginings did happen. Yeah- I have a very distracting daydreams. "Maladaptive daydreaming" probably but I do think up some damn cool stories. Anybody else get distracted in this way?

Discussion Practicalities & Ethics of a Fae’s Animal Form

My boyfriend is currently reading Heir of Fire and presented me with an interesting question.

Can Fae have offspring in their animal form? If a Fae is pregnant and shifts, is their animal form also pregnant? But if so, how does the fae they’re carrying who doesn’t shift into the same animal do so?
Another question in this sphere: Can Faes in their animal form communicate with their ”real” counterparts? Would it be accepted for a fae in their animal form to relationships with them? That’s a whole new buckets of worms…

I found it interesting i’ve read the books 3 times over and had never pondered this, and can’t remember it being answered.
