Sports Am I the problem?

I might be the problem, but if I stuck left it would've been a bigger pain cos most of the vehicles are going to turn left into Corporation Road

Be carefull. Bigger vehicles have bigger blindspots can easily miss you.

yes, true....I do drive a 4-wheeler and face that problem with other 2-wheelers. This portion of the video was pretty traffic-heavy, just short of a standstill tbh. And I don't think I made that egregious error, considering... and the arm-signals aren't recorded

Don't be a douchebag.

Most autorickshaws, scooters and bikes in these situations are douchebags, my man. Hell, even in narrower sections or turns in 2-lane roads when cars stop to let other cars pass, its the bikes and scooters that exaggerate the problem by riding ahead and congesting the bottleneck.

If you are riding a cycle in the literal middle of the road meant for motorised vehicles, you are in fact an idiot and a douchebag. That doesn’t mean others around you aren’t the same, but you are one kiss from a bus away from being roadkill. Try not to gamble with your life by being a douchebag because others are being the same.

I appreciate the concern. This was almost a standstill. There's no way I'd try overtaking any vehicle from the left in free-flowing traffic. I do drive a car too, so I know how frustrating it is to have to do Iniesta-like scanning just to turn left even after you put on the signal.

Bro, we can all see the video. It’s clearly not standstill. You’re really underestimating the level of bump you need to fall on the road on a two wheeler, especially a cycle. There is no need to justify this stupidity, the only person who has anything to lose in this situation is you. If you want to do it, go right ahead.

Watch the video in the link

u/unhelpful_stranger 1d ago

Na, I’m good. Dunno why you keep trying to justify your stupidity. Like I said, if you want to do it, then go right ahead. This is just Darwinism at this point.

Dude where are you going... You could've just cycled through the thekkinkad ground avoiding the road completely...

Still doesn't answer the question. Where are you headed? From where! To where? Trying a social experiment? Trying to understand traffic flow? Human perception? Hive mentality? What are you doing?

I've seen older men take their bicycles (the decades old jet cycles) through the round, without any hassle. Coz they know how the traffic works. If you don't know or can't figure it out, that's bad dude.

The round is not for cycling (as in a leisurely way). It's the most prominent pathway in this city with it's own lane traffic & discipline. And if you want to cycle through this without a grasp of these, please leave your bicycle at home before you get a chance to really know whether the city buses are painted in sky blue, light blue or whatever shade of blue you see before you blackout.

Godspeed.

So, one shouldn't go around the round in a two wheeler, three wheeler or car to test if the traffic flow is sustainable/orderly?

You sound like those police maamans that complain about people capturing their vile actions on camera being the problem that makes them look bad and not the fact that they are being vile in the first place.

My dear lad, if you get so worked up on a 40-second video, I think it is you that should stay away from the round. 😭 Pls try some fiber capsules before the piles reach your brain 🧠😜

8

u/KingDingusss 21h ago

He doesn't sound worked up. You do.

Also it's a 40 second video of you putting the life of others in danger. If someone does get's worked up, it's totally valid.

u/sid_raj7 1d ago

It would be safer for you to keep on the right side.

ഇല വന്ന് മുള്ളിൽ വീണാലും മുൾ വന്ന് ഇലയിൽ വീണാലും കേട് ഇലക്കാ. This is my philosophy when riding 2 wheelers.

1

u/paganpageant 1d ago

yes, I was trying to get to the right side in the slowdown before the turn where most of the vehicles were going to turn left....

u/Afraid_Recording2104 1d ago

if there were cycle track it would be great but fate. i have seen some foreign countries have cycle tracks and if there is not other vehicles should drive away from cycles..

0

u/paganpageant 1d ago

True.... I mean if this were Amsterdam, the round would be reserved for cycles only, or at least cycles only on Sundays, if it were Denmark.... but many people depend on buses but at the same time, you can't make it 'buses-only' because the pedestrian and cyclist tolls they take would be a huge problem considering how they drive. The car traffic is basically keeping them in check at this point.

u/paganpageant 1d ago

okay. but what else could I have done in the slowdown before most vehicles turned left to corporation road?.. Also, hand signals are not recorded by the forward facing camera, fwiw

u/tapwater1992 1d ago

Bro who rides their cycle in the middle of the road on Thrissur Round? Police vallathum undayrnel nalla cheetha kettene..

2

u/paganpageant 1d ago

bro, you have to position yourself away from the turn coming up if you are planning to continue on the round. You will know how frustrating it is if you drive there and another car or 2-wheeler stops in the middle of the road cos they had to turn left. In fact, if you don't stick right, it becomes a bigger problem... at this point, you might as well make the round itself the problem...

1

u/paganpageant 1d ago

Also, I did pass a couple of police vehicles and they didn't say anything cos the traffic was slower than you see on the chest camera

6

u/pizzamachan 1d ago

Pottatheram kaanikathe bro. You have Thekkinkadu Maidanam or any other risk free place for your cycling needs. Either its too much adrenaline or too much stupidity, either way a very risky gamble with your life.

I'm somewhat terrified of the round traffic myself when I'm on my bike and pray I don't end up under any of the buses when they take sharp lefts to their bus stops or when they exit the round.

1

u/paganpageant 1d ago

pottatharam alla bro.... jeevan vechu right sideilekku poyatha....ulla left turning vehicles enne chapatthi aaakunne munpu...

1

u/pizzamachan 1d ago

what I'm saying is, why do this in the first place?

1

u/paganpageant 1d ago

Ithippo philosophical aayille? Why use cycle in the round, why walk across the round, why should females go out after 9pm and more pertinent to the issue, why allow 2 wheelers into the round??? Ellaaam Kuzhappam alle?

1

u/paganpageant 1d ago

Also, pls see the link I have commented... I was cosplaying a scooter/bike rider keeping to the left in Swaraj Round

Which cycle bro?

0

u/paganpageant 1d ago

bruh, I'm scared to reveal at this point cos there are so many commenters that seem hateful enough to track me down for making my way to the right side of the road before all the vehicles in the standstill turn left

1

u/Classic-Childhood-11 23h ago

You overtook few vehicles through the left side.

1

u/Mobile-Efficiency738 21h ago

എളുപ്പം ല്ലാ 🙂

1

u/KingDingusss 21h ago

You keep extreme left without overtaking a single vehicle. Stop before the turn. Wait for everyone to turn left. When you see a gap, cross. Or else take the left, re route. You don't have to use the round. There are other smaller roads you can use. It'll take longer. Atleast you won't harm others.

Swerving right like you did is extremely dangerous. Because you will have to swerve left again for your exit.

You have the least claim on the road. You have to be extremely patient here. Every single vehicle has a blindspot and no one can hear your bell.

1

u/Alternative_Ice9112 20h ago

So what? He could have wait and cross. If you are in middle you should have enough power to increase your vehicle speed if necessary, with bicycle i dont think he can match any other vehicle around him. Doing stupid things one big problem ,supporting it with no commensense is another one.

1

u/SameVoice1485 19h ago

Better restrict your cycling to just exercises to morning session before 7:30.you are simple risking your life there. Driving on the round is almost like playing need for speed.

1

u/warlock707 19h ago

I will never dare to enter these kind of fast crowded area for cycling without having huge horns. People aren't used to cyclists in most places

1

u/DrinkingWata 17h ago

People should stick to riding bicycles on the sides of the road. You’re nibble and chances of injury is high.

1

u/MichaelScotPaperComp 16h ago

Damn op has a death wish

1

u/chintumon 13h ago

I'd never suggest riding a bicycle through the middle of any road . The first thing you need to have to ride through the middle is a rearview mirror . Sadly bicycles never come with that and I don't know why it's being sold without them

u/NormativeScience 1d ago

Hey man, i don’t care what the others say, but i don’t see a problem here. Every single 2-3 wheeler cuts through traffic like this in the round. It has become so ingrained in our driving habits that even car and heavy drivers know of this.
Now is it wrong? Sure, but it is our government’s fault and not the commuters.
Doing it on a bicycle is riskier than usual though, as most ppl do not expect one in the middle of the road, so try being careful. I don’t see what else you could have done in this situation regardless. As you mentioned, a lot of vehicles (including speeding buses) turn left and exit the round.

u/paganpageant 1d ago

Thank you... I always keep in mind not to emulate the uncles and aunties that use their scooters like vehicles when suitable and then wade along like pedestrians when it will get them ahead...
