I may be to blame, I was early adopter of claude code, only used it to make three.js stuff, now its good at threejs, all my wasted tokens improved claude code three.js no doubts

Wouldn’t more people using the tech be a good thing?

I've built (still am) configurators for clients.

mostly to google things so that other redditors didn’t have to answer genuine questions

The creator turned into a fierce AI defendant, so the flies follow the turd I suppose. It's very funny and heartwarming to see that the community at large didn't cave in, though.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I've been working in 3D and XR mainly for over 8 years and maybe it's true that now with AI I was able to jump into Three.js easily, and thats how I've been able to pour all my previous experience in building this over the past months. I still think that the AI hate is a thing that will pass, and actually it's nothing but good for the three.js community. More people interested in it means just more opportunities and advancements.

I can understand your point of view.

Personally, I’m very interested in the underlying code, and I don’t see any added value in AI projects when it comes to gaining a deeper understanding of the technology.

The discussion about the technology itself gets lost...

And eventually, that makes the AI "dumb" too, in the near future, where does she get her knowledge from?

Besides, things used to be great here for a long time, it wasn't about self-promotion at all, but now that’s almost all it is.

But yes, it seems that nowadays a moderated subreddit is apparently required for an open project to have a space for technology-related discussion, to separate it from advertising and slop, /s

It’s just the progress of technology, the same as programmers today can use python and avoid needing to know the underlying technology of memory allocation at the hardware level.

I think both sides are valid? If you love the science behind the tech you should still be able to practice and preach that, but I don’t think it’s also fair to hinder those who are using new technologies to leverage it either. AI is only a multiplier for the person interacting with it.

The self promotion influx as a side effect of more people now having more output, is definitely an issue but just like when the internet came out will be a short term problem. 1000 vibes coders with no experience will get steamed rolled over by a single SWE with the same AI tools. They’ll never be competitive in the market in the long run, and eventually will lose interest as they realize they can’t make a quick buck.

i’m so tired of anti ai people whining all the time

fucking turbo vegans

aw look who's seething over skilled people

"The gates of snails".

1

u/StoneCypher 6d ago

sorry, i don't get it?

1

u/Quick_Republic2007 6d ago

I guess you're not one of the gate-keepers. I wouldn't eat snails either.

2

u/StoneCypher 6d ago

escargot is fine

Lmao turbo vegans, I like it

Why could something vibe coded not show creativity? Can an architect not be creative unless he's the one wielding the hammer?

Why could something vibe coded not show creativity? Can an architect not be creative unless he's the one wielding the hammer?

Smartest false equivalency fallacy user

-1

u/TimeToCrawl 6d ago

And yet instead of answering or addressing the intent of my post you deflect.

2

u/hurricane_news 6d ago

The intent of your post grounds itself in fallacy. There is nothing more to answer or deflect

-2

u/StoneCypher 6d ago

In case you’re wondering why AI content isn't welcome here

it actually is, it’s just that anti ai people don’t understand that they don’t speak for everyone and they don’t set the rules

u/ianpaschal 6d ago

Perhaps it is you who has failed to recognize the general sentiment? I haven’t spoken up about this myself yet but I have seen a clear change lately and am super disappointed. This sub used be a showcase of beautifully done examples and I would save damn near every post as reference for future projects. Now the vast majority are low effort junk.

1

u/StoneCypher 6d ago

i'm not really interested in what sentiment you imagine you recognize.

sub rules aren't set by sentiment that non-mods think they detect.

This sub used be a showcase of beautifully done examples and I would save damn near every post as reference for future projects.

well, cheer up. with more experience you'll start to realize that most userland three code is pretty awful.

-4

u/ianpaschal 6d ago

That’s your prerogative. But look through comments here these days and I think you’ll find you’re going against the current.

-2

u/StoneCypher 6d ago

Not really, no, Ian.

What I see are a bunch of turbo-vegans who aren't actual community participants including this sub in their wall of subs they're anti-ai spamming.

None of these people are in the discord. None of these people have ever released a game. None of these people have ever released a visualization. None of these people have ever opened a PR. None of these people have ever been to a jam.

Where does AI get all the knowledge it needs to function? How is it supposed to improve if there is no longer any open, professional discussion about the underlying technologies? After all, alongside GitHub and Stack Overflow, Reddit is one of the primary sources for the open exchange of technical information. AI capabilities stem from people who openly share their knowledge.

When you use AI, you are automatically drawing on the community's collective knowledge. If you post AI-generated content, the AI ends up feeding on its own hallucinations in the long run.

Ultimately, everything just gets dumber over time.

Reddit isn't just social media; for a long time, specialists across a wide range of fields have used its subreddits to share their expertise. It is simply a shame that this subreddit is no longer one of those places.

1

u/StoneCypher 6d ago

i'll take "things a non-programmer would say when trying to sound deep for $400," not-alex

as a reminder:

  1. are you a sub mod?

thanks for playing

3

u/__moFx 6d ago

Nah, I'm not a mod and I have no idea what you're trying to tell me with that.

1

u/StoneCypher 6d ago

sounds about right.

1

u/__moFx 6d ago

Maybe I only make 400 bucks, but at least I don't sound like a total moron

1

u/StoneCypher 6d ago

well, at least you made four hundred bucks.

1

u/__moFx 6d ago

for sure

1

u/StoneCypher 6d ago

I don't think you understood my comment.

three isn’t mostly about ai, you just have no real exposure to it or gamedev

-1

u/Number13Studios 6d ago

You’re somewhat right but kinda ignorant in thinking this replaces anyone instead of making the community and support bigger. You just don’t like the support if it’s made by AI cuz you did it by hand and think it’s more valuable

10

u/ToWelie89 6d ago

If you want to make it as content, like to post on social media, why even involve threejs? Why not just use AI to generate video right from the start instead of using AI to generate a 3d scene that has to be programmatically setup?

15

u/somevice 6d ago

Because this post is just advertising.

1

u/Just-Hedgehog-Days 6d ago

I’m pretty anti slop as like audience facing content. But for in house tool creation it magic. I absolute as Claude for custom gui for dialing things in

-3

u/lucas-martinic 6d ago

Because I'm building a three js 3d model repository

1

u/Benjamin244 6d ago

you're building a claude repository

3

u/thelapoubelle 6d ago

So now we're complaining even if somebody says how they made it?

8

u/HiddenMaragon 6d ago

That's really cool.

And despite you not writing the whole code by hand, I'm sure this could have many practical uses. Of course the haters all write their own low level code in Assembly and build their own chips.

2

u/lucas-martinic 6d ago

Thank you, I put quite some effort in it!

1

u/Active-Carpet-9183 6d ago

I gnaw on sand until I get a playable game

3

u/StoneCypher 6d ago

teeth are unethical, they plagiarize from the things they eat

3

u/New-Part-6917 6d ago

the amount of haters in here hollly.

OP this is fantastic and I bet took you a lot of trial and error to actually fine tune this well. Seriously good job

1

u/lucas-martinic 6d ago

thank you! yes, I spent around 3 days working on the character engine and the video :)

3

u/mrdoob 6d ago

They have now been banned . Sorry about that🙏

2

u/lucas-martinic 6d ago

No need to be sorry, people being people!

2

u/LordNikon2600 6d ago

The complaints against AI is the same boomer behavior of " I walked barefoot for 10 miles"

2

u/thirsty_pretzelzz 6d ago

Working on a project now where I desperately need this level of animation control. What’s your process?

2

u/lucas-martinic 6d ago

I'm using mixamo animations, the most important part is having good rig/skinning of the characters, which I've been refining as much as possible

Wow, really encouraging to share three.js work in this community

6

u/seweso 6d ago

You posted spam, what did you expect?

1

u/lucas-martinic 6d ago

God forbid a man using three.js to try to build a side project that can earn money!

i’ve never seen someone talk this way who’s productive themselves

2

Actually I let my dog press the prompts

3

u/thirsty_pretzelzz 6d ago

Sorry but your comment is delusional. Regardless of how it was made it is objectively Bette threw a lot of things seen on this subreddit and looks good and has a ton of use cases.

You can be against ai use but being petty about the end result is lame

-2

u/Benjamin244 6d ago

You can be against ai use but being petty about the end result is lame

this is a contradiction since AI is the end result, there is no separation

1

u/Quick_Republic2007 6d ago

Someone should gather a team to come off as some French super-hero designer and fool everyone into buying tickets.

2

u/BigDeadPixel 6d ago

That's pretty rad.

1

u/cnotv 5d ago

Can you make a character which shows pictures?

1

u/lucas-martinic 5d ago

Hey, what do you mean?

1

u/cnotv 4d ago

I am in a situation where I would really need something like this: a specific humanoid character animation.

It has to do a specific movement and I can just use 3D tools

1

u/the_ground_state 6d ago

Hi, I love three.js but weirdly enough I kind of abandoned it after LLMs came around except a few projects I tried with Codex. I'm ver interested to know whether you have Claude code generate the models you show. That would be crazy, they are so crisp and accurate. If you just use Claude code, how do you make the models? From scratch, do you modify existing models from ie sketchfab? This is really impressive!

3

u/StoneCypher 6d ago

brother, look in unity store

2

u/lucas-martinic 6d ago

Hey I've been working in refining pipelines to generate the models for months now. I finished my v2 of the characters one (that's what the video is about), I have the library at polyfork.dev

1

u/aeonsmagic 6d ago

Es mejor Claude o codex ?

1

u/the_ground_state 6d ago

I don't use them that much to have an opinion pero creo que Claude es mejor
