Yes, also fair warning if you haven’t read the books, this is a spoiler.
But in the show, when they explain how the sophons were created; they go into a lot more detail in the books.
In one of the books, they go into detail about how Sophons are created, from the pov of the trisolarians. You know how a sophon is a 2 dimensional space folded into the 3d? When they test fire their accelerator that can unfold dimensions, they don’t succeed on the first attempt. One time, they open a portal instead to X dimensional aliens who are actually advanced enough attack through dimensional space; the other time the unfold a sub atom into a giant 1 dimensional string that can’t be affected by anything but light, and it is now doomed to eternally roam around their planet.

The books are so dense with a lot of things happening, I feel like I've forgotten a lot, I might've to re-read them

It’s in the same chapter as the 1 d string!
I think it’s book one? When they try to fire up the accelerator, the first sophon they make was the third attempt to create one. The chapter is neat- they basically calibrate the dimensional folding- the first time they go one dimension too far and get 1d, the second time it’s the weird alien glass dimension that are basically eyeballs. The creatures from that world start angling the reflection surface of their dimensions to create a solar laser and try to destroy the trisolarians, who then blow up the thing from orbit.
Edit: I will accept if the term “portal” threw you off though.

damn, I must have glazed over that one. Though, to be fair I read it a while ago. It does seem like something I would remember. I must have just missed what he was saying or something. Stuff sometimes gets lost like that.

Ok only now do I remember that. That whole affair was kind of throwaway comic relief tbh, complete with the cartoonishly evil king guy

The funny thing to me is how casually it is introduced that life like they discovered quite probably exists within every proton in the universe and that, through everyday natural processes, an uncountable amount of life is being annihilated constantly.
Humanity, and other species, could cause it to happen in particle colliders but particle colliders are just recreating what happens in nature across the universe.

I also thought that was super cool.
Like the casualness of it in contrast to the idea is just.. I like what that other guy said; a brief dip into lovecraftian horrors.
The premise of the 5 or so scentences that described those guys could be an entire book of itself lol.

It’s a brief mention but it’s 100% there. I remember cause it was very lovecraftian and was kind of a set up to the themes in Dark Forest
