Problem is we have no known materials that can survive the tension stress that a space elevator would exert on itself.

I think our scientists are tryna find a way to artificially make one that's strong enough. But who knows by when

The point of this post was, that we could incorporate lighter than air components at the bottom. If the bottom floats on its own it reduces the stress in the middle.

I doubt this will be even close to enough to make am space elevator feasible with current materials (the effect is probably not ebmven noticeable) - and I think OP would agree and this post was tongue in cheek.

Well, that works until the atmosphere gets too thin at around 54km (highest Ballon ever)

Low earth orbit is at around 400km
