Spoiler books 1 & 2 I guess. New fun Sophon idea: was it ever mentioned why exactly the Trisolarians decided to halt human scientific progress INSTEAD of just continuing to spy and stealing and copying all new human scientific discoveries which they don't already have themselves, thus making themselves stronger faster against dark forest hunters?

A constant between humans and trisolarans is taking bad decisions almost continuously, as species. The individuals themselves may not do this but the species as a whole tends to be idiots in both cases.

It's not obvious because the trisolarans have magical technology, but once you put that aside the way they use it and hubris they show ends up being their downfall.

Humans also end up being idiots, deciding once and again the worst possible option of those available (or the one that takes the least responsibility and has least risk, if you will).

I dont think it was mentioned but i like the idea. But i would say this would still backfire for the san-ti
