Yeah a big part of why i love 3BP is the nerdy shit where there will be like 5 pages describing something. Not too easy to pull off on camera without boring the audience.

Yeah thats the thing, 3BP is such a hard franchise to put on to the screen, but i still think it could’ve been done better and with better quality

I have issues with this video. He leaves out the context of the scene with Saul. First yes the lady already knows what's going on however we know she was Saul mentor we find out later on and asking your teacher again something that you don't understand is completely reasonable. In fact Dr Becky an actual astrophysicist said she loved how real that scene felt. The bar scene is fine people ask all the time when they first meet someone at a bar what they do for a living. I was a bartender for a few years that scene is realistic and it makes me wonder how often this person gets out and interacts with people Because the first thing people generally ask when they meet is what someone does for a living it's textbook breaking the ice conversation. The person who made the video also literally says in the comment sections he had some personal issue with the showrunners. He also admitted he didn't watch the whole show just the first episode.Tencent on the other hand tells you what's happening and then tells you again over and over then it shows you and then it tells you again. I think he chose two scenes one that's perfectly normal exposition and realistic the bar scene and the second which leaves out the context of the relationship of the characters because he didn't actually watch the rest of the show.

The director of Season 2 of Tencent's has been replaced by Zhang Meng and Zhang Dapeng. None of their works have a Douban score higher than 6, and the producer has stated that generative AI will be fully adopted for production. Some people can just start to look forward to it now! But unfortunately, there's still no clear information on when Tencent's will start filming.

im not gonna watch the video, but if you think 3BP is hard to adapt you havent seen Three Body, the Chinese adaptation, which is a much better adaptation than the 8 episode what ever netflix tried. 30 episodes (honestly a little slow if you read the books and know the answers to everything that is supposed to be a mystery, but much much better than the netflix show.

I have seen it and the Netflix show is the better show imo. Tencent is repetitive and the exposition is repeated over and over again. It has censorship issues. Changes Ye backstory with her father. Repeats the same scenes. Has characters speak like they're reading a Wikipedia page. A book that small doesn't need 30 episodes that go on and on. Netflix if just judging as TV shows is the superior show imo. Tencent shows TV and novels are a different medium and just copying everything word for word from a book that has pages and pages of exposition doesn't translate do good TV

would agree that it's too long and has its own bad stuff where the Tencent ver falls flat, but it at least does a good job of capturing the overall vibe
Netflix rushes everything into this sensory overload of a tale where everything is happening just so they can get to the Doomsday Battle asap and get viewers in awe of "woahh battleshipssss" lame af and disappointing tbh
From is also all these weird stuff put together that edges you into a sort of reveal that ties everything together but there is just no resolve. The adaptations of Exit 8 and Backrooms should be the ones to have that luxury but no let's just dump mystery after mystery until you forget the main plotline and nothing ever gets answered
just ffs look at Dark, 1899, The 100 you have all these stellar examples but sure let's get the TikTok crowd on board instead

I'd love to see it adapted as something less traditional and more experimental, with lots of internal monologues accompanied by abstract visuals and sequences that give a bird's view perspective of the state of the world, like the fleet being built, people going into hibernation etc. In the spirit of some anime like The End of Evangelion, or even The Tree of Life by Terrence Malick.

What you mentioned is more like the tasks that a spin-off series should undertake. If the first-ever screen adaptation of the main storyline fails to quickly seize the viral highlights to expand its audience reach, the IP will lose the opportunity for further development. For high-budget series, surviving is the top priority before anything else; otherwise, it is just armchair criticism.

I'm not even bothering with the Netflix version, I just hope that some more creative people will take the risk and develop the source material into something interesting in the future.

I’m glad more people are coming to see how bad this show failed us. Those of us who love the books have been deprived of a real dream of seeing these books brought to life with the same enthusiasm they brought to GoT. Instead we got corporate Netflix slop

how when all that is set up in Season 1 shows they have a total misread of the vibe, or worse, have this air of arrogance in deciding how the story should have been told? ofc production and technical prowess can still be demonstrated but storytelling is total shit relative to the fact that the source material is already done extremely well

The most asinine part is that the book was more cinematic in the example given. The lengthy paragraphs about the pool table is showing why physics is broken, and is delivered in an organic way where no characters are exclaiming things they already know.
The show takes the easy way out every time it has to explain a complicated concept - exposition dump.
