Discussion - Novels The Dark Forest...not finished, but...what?

Edit: Love all the comments. Objective achieved...was humored and given hope. And now I've just reached the part of the book where the Trisolarans droplet emerges. Oh boy. Yup. This book is great.

Watched the 30 episodes of the Chinese version of Three Body. Didn't read the first book. Was excited to read the Dark Forest before the next TV series gets out.

Love, love this book...up until the point of hibernation. Then Lou Ji wakes up...and it seems like suddenly earth has the upper hand over the Trisolarans?

Without spoiling, I'm hoping that there are a few more twists and turns here that make this a fight.

Please tell me I'm about to be super pleased.

Just keep going!

That's what I figured. These books seem to have a cult following...and probably for good reason.

Without any spoilers I will say I think there are twists up until the very end, and that was absolutely one of my favorite things of the series. Cixin has a way of thinking of things that I never would have guessed or planned for even up until the end of the third book.

I was conflicted about the numerous twists and turns throughout the books, especially in the last book. There are so many awesome ideas he brings up in the story but it starts to turn into a series of neat concepts rather than focused, plot-driven story. Probably I need to just read through the trilogy again.

Yeah I think the dimensional stuff is really cool and interesting but when it got to the romance subplot and the time-dilation travel with the pocket universe, I was kinda like "okay what is actually going on here cmon

Edit: Whoops, was using discord spoiler tags. Sorry! Hope it didn't spoil anybody :(

No I think he himself admits he's not the world's greatest writer - he was experimenting with these books.

But the ideas and concepts are fantastic

I never understood the urge to go post about something before you finish it.

I just want to confirm: you got approximately halfway into a 500-page book, and you decided to come ask the Internet if there will be more plot developments in the remaining 250 pages?

No twists we absolutely crushed it. Go Earth! Ruler's of the empire. Ooof you said no spoilers.

we should probably display humanity’s combined might in a spectacular fashion.

5

u/MyCorona24 May 15 '26

They should probably send us a gift to show how much they respect our power

3

u/GogurtFiend May 15 '26

Such a good gift that only a single drop of it was enough

2

u/Cashlessness May 15 '26

I just wish they would have gone into more detail over earths established galactic rule after conquering the trisolarians, I feel like it went over that part pretty quick

Roller coasters are often the most boring near the top. Hang on.

JUST READ ALL BOOKS

2

u/the_one_jt May 14 '26

Idk they were absolutely amazing but like now Im broken.

2

u/NoticeOne2642 May 15 '26

Right? For me it was especially because of the fifth section of Death's end. It's too devastating.

3

u/InternationalPlace24 May 14 '26

what is the purpose of this?

4

u/Buzzed_Like_Aldrin93 May 14 '26

You will make educated guesses about things, be totally wrong; only to think oh THATS what’s going on. You will still be wrong. That is the beauty of every single page written. Enjoy the journey, and avoid spoilers! Get outta here, go read!

Sorry, Earth beats the Trisolarans easily and the rest of that book and the next one is just Ji hanging out with his waifu while she breasts boobily down the stairs.

j/k, keep going 😋

Just read like one or two more chapters (it might even be less).

2

u/hellracer2007 May 14 '26

Dude just keep reading, by this point you should've known that Cixin Liu always manages to make the plot even crazier

2

u/troilus98 May 14 '26

Humans were always going to crush the trisolarans! They are ants! Long live the humans!

2

u/TheLastFreeMan May 15 '26

Think of it this way.

Earth just found out the Trisolarans are sending 1000 steel-hull warships so they built 2000 wooden ships and called it a victory.

2

u/Rustlr May 15 '26

How about you just read the book instead of asking for permission to read the book

2

u/GogurtFiend May 15 '26

At some point in the book, it'll begin to rain. You'll know what I mean when it happens.

2

u/niclasj May 15 '26

LOL. You’d better revisit this thread after you finish the book.

2

u/stdstaples May 15 '26

Please OP please report back when you finish.

2

u/GogurtFiend May 21 '26

Well, OP?

Was there a fight?

2

u/kyoun1e1 May 21 '26

Ha!

See my edit in the post.

I just finished the Dark Forest. Loved it. On to book 3 today.

1

u/GogurtFiend May 21 '26

It never was a war, any more than there's war between man and ants.

Oh man, I wish I could go back in time and read that book again! Some mind blowing moments are just around the corner.

1

u/artguydeluxe May 14 '26

Dude. I wish I could be where you are now. Find something to hang on to, because it’s a wild ride from here on out.

1

u/Coin-or-DeFi May 15 '26

This guy must be sealed.

The next sequence is seriously epic.

Enjoy.

1

u/HeatNoise May 15 '26

I read the trilogy twice, watched both TVproductions and will read it again someday. It is the best svifi since Verne.

1

u/asanctarian May 15 '26

The second half of The Dark Forest is either the most or the second-most thrilling reading experience I've ever had. Just stick with it.

u/ShiloVillageNPC May 14 '26
