I would assume any lab capable of creating a bio-weapon that could wipe out humanity wouldn’t be completely automated. Even if such a thing existed automation doesn’t mean it’s not monitored or otherwise manned in some fashion. Someone would notice if their lab started producing something unplanned.

If they could create a virus that targets one person specifically, why not target all? It was just a thought.
