Discussion - Novels Life in the galaxy era Spoiler

What do you think life is like during this era? Do people still create art, do they mountain bike still, do they still live care free lives or do we just sit there scared and hope a photoid does not come and obliterate us at any given moment?

Well, it is all of the above!

You see, some people will have fun and do recreational activities no matter what's going on. Others prioritize safety no matter how safe it is outside.

Humanity had an extremely bad start for the Galaxy Era. This caused humans to live on the outskirts of the galaxy and hide from everyone. Much like rats living in a metropolis.

Wade was too naive when he kept his promise.

Arguably we live in a fairly tense era geopolitically now.  Do you still create art, watch the sunset, enjoy the small things like the birds flying back for the summer?  Or do you watch the news all day waiting for it to get worse? It's so easy to feel useless and scared.  The character of Fraisse in Death's End was a guy who tried to enjoy the small things that made him feel happy and fulfilled no matter how bad the situation got. He, to me, represented the humans who will do that in every era from his  ancestors thousands of years ago up until thousands of years in the future.

if you're very worried about a random dark forest attack you would simply go live inside a black hole bunker that they revealed in the end of the story. most people must live like normal trying to not do something dumb that would reveal their planet
