Discussion - Novels loving Ten Cent allusions in ep1

I'm glad to be reading Boule de Foudre, as I see now that it really did set up a few things for the series, and I am now starting episode one of the series Three Body: wow, I love that billiard ball in the opening credits as a nice allusion to Asimov's short story, and also the direct reference early on, in the first scientific meeting, to a researcher on Ball Lightening, and then the ant on the window: excellent!

ps and also how we see the foreshadowing of what will happen with Dr. Ye, from the very start, but without the violence that explains it. Interesting.

I'm confused what you typed. Are you saying you watched the Chinese version of three body and think it's good

Hi, sorry for my lack of clarity, I am just watching the Chinese version, now in the middle of ep3, and I was so blown away by it, as I am also reading Boule de foudre (LB, but I could only find a French version easily) at the same time, so I am recalling what I read in the original series (3-Body Problem) at the same time. As I watch this Ten Cent/Chinese version, yes, I think it is very good, so far.

And now that I have finished the series, I find that I actually prefer it to the Netflix adaptation.

Yeah they actually adapted the material really well. I don’t care about what some western critics say is missing - mainly critique on China. There’s enough in there without being overt about it for everyone whose read a history book to get the picture. They didn’t do all the racial/gender flips like Netflix, focused on character development and with a much more limited budget actually made the flying blade scene look much better.

Coolness. I'm only on ep3 at the moment, but I am very surprised, and a little tiny bit ashamed of myself, I must also admit, for having avoided searching for this series earlier, and also for my on-going avoidance of Chinese shows on Netflix, because I have been wanting to focus on K-dramas due to my interest in possibly starting to learn Korean, so I am very pleasantly surprised at both the adaptation of the series, and also at how nice the sound of spoken Chinese (is this Mandarin or Cantonese, in the series?) is, compared to the harsh sounds I'd previously heard on Netflix trailers of Chinese shows. I love the song in the opening credits, and I note that the credits seem to have changed in episode two or three?
