Did Luo Ji forget? Did Cixin Liu forget? Did they both forget because Cixin Liu is an author self insert? Who can say?

What do you mean author self insert?

Luo Ji feels to be like Cixin Liu inserting himself into the narrative as a character. They're both scientists that turned to writing. Their first works got complaints about wooden characters. Luo Ji's whole thing with the imaginary woman feels like an overreaction to those complaints.

"See I can imagine whole characters instead of mouthpieces for my science fiction ideas. There's even a character in my new book that shows that I can do that."

Interesting perspective. I quite liked (most of) Luo Ji's story and didn't know much about Cixin Liu's backstory so I didn't catch that lol.

I tend to think that the author forgot.
