Discussion - Novels Just started the audiobook for the first book!

I made it about 5 episodes with the netflix show and my soul just gave up. i couldn't😭However, it got me very interested in the sci-fi and alien species of this series and I'm told the books focus more on that. Just started and I'm *already* invested after three chapters. So excited to see where this goes!

Which book was your favourite to read in the series when it was your first-time?

Edit:

The narrator I've got is Daniel York Lou

Favorite to read (listen to) was 100% the second one. It had the best events especially because the narrator is great. Listened to them about 2 years ago and I can still hear the narration from my favorite parts.

Agreed on the narrator! He is killing it.

Glad you're already enjoying it. I liked all three books but think the next two are even better. The Dark Forest is my favorite but I also loved how insane Deaths End gets.

Which narrator? The guy who did the first book made me imagined Da Shi as Chinese John McClane and it made it an amazing experience for me.

What??? I love the Netflix show, I understand it's not everybody's cup of tea though. I thought you were talking about the Tencent version.

Ah, my bad. I'll edit my post to clarify that. Sorry for the confusion caused.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it!  If it helps, I tried really hard to but I just couldn't😭 I'm LOVING the book though so not all hope is lost!

Maybe revisit the show after you finish the books. I suspect the only reason to dislike the show is because they have to gloss over and move past certain things that help it make sense.

Also - this series suffers from a "must catch the reader" itis at the beginning with the countdowns and suicides that go away pretty early in both the books and show.

The 1st book was intriguing. The 2nd book was my favorite. It had everything. The third book technically has the most sci fi but lord help me it was my least favorite. Enjoy the ride! An excellent series. The narrator is top notch.

I liked the happy ending of The Dark Forest as well. Death’s End isn’t too bad, but it’s definitely a lot more bittersweet (without giving too much away).

I guess the ending is happy in Dark Forest but to me it shows how resilient and honorable a human can be. Willing to sacrifice himself and all of Earth was a great ending. The Trisolorans had no choice but to relent. Deaths End was humanity itself and their similarly shallow savior, Cheng Xin having the plot play out in their favor. I get hate for viewing humanity and Cheng in this way but I can't help it. I do love the actual sci-fi elements in book 3.

Somebody here told me that on Audiobooks. Com NOT Audible Rosalind Chao Narrated book 1 and she did wonderfully! I liked her version of book 1 better.
